हर वर्ष 19 जनवरी को एनडीआरएफ स्थापना दिवस मनाया जाता है. यह दिन उन बहादुर जवानों की निस्वार्थ सेवा और साहस को सम्मानित करता है, जिन्होंने प्राकृतिक और मानव निर्मित आपदाओं में देशवासियों की रक्षा की हो.
एनडीआरएफ की स्थापना 19 जनवरी, 2006 को हुई थी, जिसे आपदा प्रबंधन अधिनियम, 2005 (Disaster Management Act, 2005) के तहत देश की आपदा प्रतिक्रिया क्षमताओं को बढ़ाने और त्वरित सहायता प्रदान करने के लिए एक विशेष बल के रूप में गठित किया गया था. इसका मुख्य उद्देश्य प्राकृतिक और मानव निर्मित आपदाओं के दौरान विशेषज्ञ प्रतिक्रिया देना था. शुरुआत में इसमें कुछ ही बटालियन थीं, लेकिन आज यह दुनिया के सबसे बड़े समर्पित आपदा प्रतिक्रिया बलों में से एक बन चुका है.
वर्तमान समय में एनडीआरएफ की 16 बटालियन हैं, जो देश के विभिन्न हिस्सों में रणनीतिक रूप से तैनात हैं. इसमें सीमा सुरक्षा बल (BSF), केंद्रीय रिजर्व पुलिस बल (CRPF), और अन्य अर्धसैनिक बलों के प्रशिक्षित जवानों को शामिल किया जाता है 16 बटालियन हैं, जो देश के विभिन्न हिस्सों में रणनीतिक रूप से तैनात हैं. इसमें सीमा सुरक्षा बल (BSF), केंद्रीय रिजर्व पुलिस बल (CRPF), और अन्य अर्धसैनिक बलों के प्रशिक्षित जवानों को शामिल किया जाता है. एनडीआरएफ की मुख्य जिम्मेदारियों में – बाढ़, भूकंप, चक्रवात, भूस्खलन आदि में राहत और बचाव कार्य साथ ही रासायनिक रिसाव, औद्योगिक दुर्घटनाएँ, आतंकवादी हमले आदि.
यह दिन उन शहीदों और नायकों को याद करने का है जिन्होंने राहत कार्यों के दौरान अपना सर्वोच्च बलिदान दिया है. एनडीआरएफ स्थापना दिवस के अवसर पर देश भर में मॉक ड्रिल और जागरूकता अभियान चलाए जाते हैं, ताकि आम नागरिक भी आपदा के समय तैयार रहें. पिछले वर्षों में एनडीआरएफ ने ‘नेपाल भूकंप (2015)’, ‘ओडिशा का चक्रवात फानी’, और ‘तुर्की भूकंप (2023)’ जैसे बड़े अभियानों में अपनी दक्षता साबित की है.
एनडीआरएफ का आदर्श वाक्य “आपदा सेवा सदैव” उनके संकल्प को दर्शाता है. यह बल न केवल भारत में, बल्कि अंतरराष्ट्रीय स्तर पर भी मानवता की सेवा के लिए हमेशा तत्पर रहता है. एनडीआरएफ स्थापना दिवस केवल एक औपचारिक उत्सव नहीं है, बल्कि यह देश के हर नागरिक को सुरक्षा का भरोसा दिलाने का दिन है.

NDRF Foundation Day
NDRF Foundation Day is celebrated every year on January 19th. This day honors the selfless service and courage of the brave personnel who have protected the citizens of the country during natural and man-made disasters.
The NDRF was established on January 19, 2006, under the Disaster Management Act, 2005, as a specialized force to enhance the country’s disaster response capabilities and provide rapid assistance. Its main objective was to provide expert response during natural and man-made disasters. Initially, it had only a few battalions, but today it has become one of the world’s largest dedicated disaster response forces.
Currently, the NDRF has 16 battalions strategically deployed in various parts of the country. It comprises trained personnel from the Border Security Force (BSF), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), and other paramilitary forces. The NDRF’s main responsibilities include relief and rescue operations during floods, earthquakes, cyclones, landslides, etc., as well as chemical spills, industrial accidents, terrorist attacks, etc.
This day is also a time to remember the martyrs and heroes who have made the ultimate sacrifice during relief operations. On the occasion of NDRF Foundation Day, mock drills and awareness campaigns are conducted across the country to ensure that ordinary citizens are also prepared for disasters. In recent years, the NDRF has proven its efficiency in major operations such as the ‘Nepal earthquake (2015)’, ‘Cyclone Fani in Odisha’, and the ‘Turkey earthquake (2023)’.
The NDRF’s motto, “Disaster Service Always,” reflects their commitment. This force is always ready to serve humanity not only in India but also internationally. NDRF Foundation Day is not just a formal celebration, but a day to reassure every citizen of the country of their safety and security.
