Rama Ekadashi…

A devotee once asked Maharaj Ji, “Please suggest a way by which even the gravest of sins can be absolved.” Vyas Sumanji Maharaj explains that the Ekadashi falling during the waning phase (Krishna Paksha) of the month of Kartika—known as Rambha or Rama Ekadashi—serves this purpose. Maharaj Ji notes that in Indian culture, the calculation of time is based on the movement of the moon, whereas in Western countries, it is based on the movement of the sun. The month of Kartika is considered highly sacred and pure; according to the Hindu calendar, it is the eighth month of the year. This month is described in the Skanda Purana, Narada Purana, and Padma Purana, and is also referred to as ‘Damodar Masa’.
Maharaj Ji further explains that the worship of Vrinda (Tulsi) holds great significance during this month. This sacred and pure month of Kartika is often described as a ‘gateway’ to human liberation (Moksha). Maharaj Ji recounts that King Yudhishthira once posed this same question to Shyamsundar (Lord Krishna). In response, Yashodanandan (Krishna) said, “O Yudhishthira, the Ekadashi that falls during the waning phase of the month of Kartika is called ‘Rambha Ekadashi.’ It has the power to destroy even the gravest of sins; observing the fast of this Ekadashi with complete devotion leads to the eradication of all sins.”
Maharaj Ji emphasizes that observing this Ekadashi—known as Rambha or Rama Ekadashi—cleanses one of all sins. Listening to the narrative (Katha) associated with this Ekadashi yields the same spiritual merit as performing a ‘Vajapeya Yajna.’ In the present age, people often suffer due to their pursuit of material pleasures; those who harbor a strong desire for such worldly comforts should certainly observe the fast of Rambha Ekadashi. Maharaj Ji says that the lotus-eyed Shyam Sundar Himself has stated that whoever worships Him with devotion on the day of Ekadashi will always be showered with His grace.
Worship material: –
Vedi, Kalash, Saptdhan, Panch Pallava, Roli, Gopi sandalwood, Ganga water, milk, curd, cow ghee lamp, betel nuts, honey, Panchamrit, Mogra incense sticks, seasonal fruits, flowers, Amla, pomegranate, cloves, coconut, Lemon, sweet lime, banana and basil leaves and Manjari.
Ekadashi fasting method: –
If you want to observe the Ekadashi fast, then you should follow the rules of the Ekadashi fast from Dashami Tithi only. On the day of Dashami, one should take a bath, meditate and eat food after offering Arghya to Lord Sun, but the food should be pure and vegetarian. “Keep in mind that garlic, onion and tamasic food should be avoided”. On the day of Ekadashi, wake up in Brahma Muhurta, after taking a bath etc., worship Lord Vishnu with fruits, flowers, incense sticks, Akshat, Durva and Panchamrit. Keep a fast on the day of fasting, and after performing Aarti in the evening, eat fruits and do Jagran at night. On the second day, on Dwadashi, after taking a bath etc., do puja, after that feed and donate food to the Brahmins as per your capacity, after that the fasting person should have food.
Must give up: –
Use jaggery for a sweet voice, oil for longevity or the birth of a son or grandchild, bitter oil for an enemy’s marriage, sweet oil for good fortune, floral offerings to reach heaven, and all kinds of auspicious things during the Lord’s sleep. Work should not be done as far as possible. Sleeping on the bed, company of a wife, lying, with meat, honey, curd, rice given by others, eating food like radish, patol and brinjal etc. should also be avoided.
Story: –
In ancient times, there was a pious and charitable king named Mukund, the people considered him equal to God. King Mukund believed in the Vaishnava sect and used to worship Lord Vishnu regularly with devotion. Impressed by the devotion of the king, the people also started fasting on Ekadashi. After some time, a daughter was born in the king’s house, who was very polite and virtuous. The king named his daughter Chandrabhaga, and gradually with time Chandrabhaga grew up, after that, the king married Chandrabhaga to Shobhan, son of King Chandrasen. Chandrabhaga started living with her husband in her in-laws house. After marriage, on the first Ekadashi, Chandrabhaga asks her husband to observe Ekadashi fast. As a result of Siobhan’s extreme stubbornness, Shobhan also fasts on Ekadashi, but in the middle of the Ekadashi date, Shobhan gets hungry, and Shobhan starts suffering due to hunger, Shobhan dies after some time.
After death, Shobhan becomes the king of the Devanagari kingdom situated on Mandarachal Mountain. Many Apsaras were present in Devanagari to serve King Shobhan. Even after the death of her husband, Chandrabhaga continued to observe Ekadashi fast with devotion. One day King Mukund goes to visit Devanagari with his soldiers, and seeing Shobhan in Devanagari, King Mukund is very happy. After returning from Devanagari, King Mukund tells his daughter and queen everything about King Shobhan. Hearing the news of her husband, Chandrabhaga goes to Devanagari situated on Mandarachal Mountain and starts living happily with her husband.
Ekadashi helps achieve the ultimate goal of living beings, devotion to God. On this day, one should serve the Lord with full faith and devotion. On this day, if a person becomes free from desires and does devotional service to God with a pure heart, then he becomes worthy of the blessings of Lotus Eye Shyamsundar Murlimanohar.
Pay Attention…
Jagran must be done on the night of Ekadashi, this fast should be completed by donating food and Dakshina to Brahmins on the next day in the morning on Dwadashi.
Result of Ekadashi: –
Ekadashi helps achieve the ultimate goal of living beings, devotion to God. This day is considered very auspicious and fruitful for serving the Lord with full devotion. On this day, if a person becomes free from desires and does devotional service to God with a pure heart, then he becomes blessed by the Lord.
