सोहन एक प्रतिभाशाली कलावंत (कलाकार) था. उसका प्रेम ‘ललीता’ नामक एक सुंदर और सुशील कन्या से हुआ. उनका प्रेम गहरा और शुद्ध था. वे विवाह के बंधन में बंधना चाहते थे. लेकिन ललीता के पिता एक कठोर और महत्वाकांक्षी व्यक्ति थे. उन्होंने सोहन को एक गरीब कलाकार समझकर ललीता का विवाह एक धनवान व्यापारी से तय कर दिया.
सोहन और ललीता दुखी थे, पर उन्होंने विद्रोह नहीं किया. सोहन ने अपना सारा दुःख और प्रेम अपनी कला में उड़ेल दिया. उसने ऐसे मूर्तिशिल्प और चित्र बनाए जिन्हें देखकर लोग मंत्रमुग्ध हो जाते. उसकी ख्याति दूर-दूर तक फैली. एक दिन राजा ने उसकी कला देखी और प्रभावित होकर उसे राजदरबार में सम्मानित किया. ललीता के पिता को अपनी भूल का एहसास हुआ. उन्होंने स्वयं जाकर सोहन से क्षमा मांगी और सोहन- ललीता का विवाह संपन्न करवाया. उनका प्रेम धर्म और संस्कार के साथ पूर्ण हुआ.
काम मानवीय इच्छाएं, प्रेम, सुख और सौंदर्यानुभूति है. यह जीवन का एक स्वाभाविक और आवश्यक पहलू है. इसका पालन भी धर्म के अनुसार, संयम और नैतिकता के साथ होना चाहिए. अनियंत्रित वासना दुखदायी होती है, जबकि संस्कारित प्रेम और कला जीवन को सुंदर बनाते हैं. (कामः संस्कृतो रसः – संस्कारित काम ही रस [आनंद] है).

The Power of Art…
Sohan was a talented artist. He fell in love with a beautiful and virtuous young woman named Lalita. Their love was deep and pure, and they wished to be united in marriage. However, Lalita’s father was a stern and ambitious man; regarding Sohan as merely a poor artist, he arranged Lalita’s marriage to a wealthy merchant instead.
Sohan and Lalita were heartbroken, yet they did not rebel. Sohan poured all his sorrow and love into his art. He created sculptures and paintings that left viewers spellbound. His fame spread far and wide. One day, the King saw his work, was deeply impressed, and honored him in the royal court. Lalita’s father realized his mistake; he personally went to Sohan to seek forgiveness and arranged for the marriage of Sohan and Lalita. Their love found fulfillment within the framework of righteousness and cultural values.
Kama (desire) encompasses human aspirations, love, happiness, and the appreciation of beauty. It is a natural and essential aspect of life. However, it must be pursued in accordance with righteousness, restraint, and morality. Unbridled lust leads to suffering, whereas love and art—when refined by noble values—make life beautiful. (Kamaḥ saṃskṛto rash —it is refined desire that truly yields Rasa or blissful joy).
