Silent witness…

A year later
Cracks still remain in Sarpur, but people are slowly mending them—stone by stone, word by word, and smile by smile.
The chinar tree still stands at the crossroads, and beneath it, Shyam Lal and Abdul Rahman sit together, sharing tea.
Firoz has started making clay elephants again; Zarina now sits beside him, kneading the clay and smiling too.
Kailashnath is still on duty, and patients of all faiths visit his clinic.
Naina is now the school principal and has devised a new curriculum: “Our Country, All of Us.”
There is now a signboard at Vasant’s shop that reads: “Tea for everyone.”
And Rafiq’s diary has become a book. Its title is *Silent Witness: The Story of a City*.
The final page reads:
“The country was torn into fragments, yet every fragment remains Hindustan. The people were silent, but now they too are speaking up. For as long as there is room in our hearts for one another, this country can never be divided? We simply must remember that we are human beings first—and everything else second.”
