हिन्दू पंचांग अनुसार कार्तिक का महिना साल का आठवां महिना होता है. सनातन धर्मालम्बियों के लिए महीने की हर पूर्णिमा का विशेष महत्व होता है. वहीँ कार्तिक महीने के पूर्णिमा का महत्व सबसे ज्यादा होता है. कार्तिक पूर्णिमा को त्रिपुर पूर्णिमा भी कहा जाता है. बताते चलें कि, कार्तिक के महीने को भगवान विष्णु का मास कहा जाता है. पौराणिक ग्रंथ जैसे स्कन्द पुराण, नारद पुराण और पद्म पुराण में कार्तिक मास का विस्तार से वर्णन किया गया है.
पौराणीक ग्रंथों के अनुसार, कार्तिक पूर्णिमा के दिन गंगा स्नान करने से पूरे वर्ष स्नान करने का फल मिलता है. कार्तिक पुर्णिमा के दिन पवित्र नदी व सरोवर एवं धर्म स्थान में जैसे, गंगा, यमुना, गोदावरी, नर्मदा, गंडक, कुरूक्षेत्र, अयोध्या, काशी में स्नान करने से विशेष पुण्य की प्राप्ति होती है. इस दिन गंगा स्नान, दीप दान, हवन, यज्ञ आदि करने से सांसारिक पाप का शमन होता है जबकि, कार्तिक पूर्णिमा के दिन किये गए दान का भी बहुत ही महत्व बताया गया है.
विश्व का सबसे प्राचीन शहर काशी में कार्तिक पूर्णिमा के दिन माँ गंगा की पूजा कर घाट के किनारे लाखों दीपक जलाकर माँ गंगा को सम्मान दिया जाता है. गंगा किनारे ऐसा महसूस होता है कि पूरी आकाश ही गंगा में उतर गई हो. बताते चलें कि, देवदिवाली परम्परा की शुरुआत वर्ष 1915 में पंचगंगा घाट पर हजारों दिए जलाकर इसकी शुरुआत की गई थी. प्राचीन परम्परा और संस्कृति में आधुनिकता का शुरुआत कर विश्वस्तर पर एक नये अध्याय का आविष्कार किया था. माना जाता है कि कार्तिक पूर्णिमा के दिन देवतागण दिवाली मनाते हैं व इसी दिन देवताओं का काशी में प्रवेश हुआ था.
पौराणिक ग्रन्थों के अनुसार, महर्षि अंगीरा ने कहा है कि, यदि स्नान में कुशा और दान करते समय हाथ में जल व जप करते समय संख्या का संकल्प नहीं किया जाए तो कर्म फल की प्राप्ति नहीं होती है. कार्तिक पूर्णिमा के दिन स्नान करते समय पहले हाथ पैर धो लें फिर आचमन करके हाथ में कुशा लेकर स्नान करें, इसी प्रकार दान देते समय में हाथ में जल लेकर दान करना चाहिए.
पौराणिक ग्रन्थों के अनुसार, इसी दिन भगवान शिव ने त्रिपुरासुर नामक राक्षस का वध किया था, इसी वजह से इसे त्रिपुरी पूर्णिमा के नाम से भी जाना जाता है. पौराणिक ग्रन्थों के अनुसार, कार्तिक पूर्णिमा को भगवान विष्णु का मत्स्य अवतार हुआ था. ग्रन्थों के अनुसार, सभी लोकों में गोलोक का स्थान सर्वोच्च है. ग्रन्थों के अनुसार, कार्तिक पूर्णिमा को गोलोक के रासमण्डल में श्री कृष्ण ने श्री राधा का पूजन किया था. कार्तिक पूर्णिमा को ही देवी तुलसी ने पृथ्वी पर जन्म ग्रहण किया था. कार्तिक पूर्णिमा को राधिका जी की शुभ प्रतिमा का दर्शन और वन्दन करके मनुष्य जन्म के बंधन से मुक्त हो जाता है और इस दिन श्री हरि को तुलसी पत्र अर्पण करते हैं.
पौराणिक ग्रन्थों के अनुसार, कोई भी व्यक्ति कार्तिक के महीने में तुलसी वृक्ष के नीचे श्री राधाकृष्ण का पूजा निष्काम भाव से करता है उन्हें अपना जीवन मुक्त समझना चाहिए. कार्तिक पूर्णिमा के दिन भरणी नक्षत्र हो तो इसका महत्व और भी बढ़ जाता है. अगर रोहिणी नक्षत्र हो तो इस पूर्णिमा का महत्व कई गुणा बढ़ जाता है. इस दिन कृतिका नक्षत्र पर चन्द्रमा और बृहस्पति हों तो यह महापूर्णिमा कहलाती है. कृतिका नक्षत्र पर चन्द्रमा और विशाखा पर सूर्य हो तो “पद्मक योग” बनता है जिसमें गंगा स्नान करने से पुष्कर से भी अधिक उत्तम फल की प्राप्ति होती है.
बताते चलें कि, कार्तिक पूर्णिमा के दिन ही सिख धर्म के संस्थापक और पहले गुरु नानक देव जी का जन्म हुआ था. इस दिन सिख धर्म से जुड़े लोग सुबह स्नान कर गुरुद्वारे में जाकर गुरु नानक देव की के वचन सुनते हैं और धर्म के रास्ते पर चलने का प्रण लेते हैं. पूर्णिमा के दिन गुरु नानक देव जी का जन्म होने के कारण इस दिन को गुरु पर्व के नाम से भी जाना जाता है.

According to mythological texts, bathing in the Ganges on the day of Kartik Purnima gives the fruit of bathing throughout the year. Bathing in Kashi gives special merit. On this day, worldly sins are quenched by bathing in the Ganges, and donating lamps, havan, yajna, etc., whereas, the donation made on the day of Kartik Purnima is also said to be of great importance.
In Kashi, the oldest city in the world, on the day of Kartik Purnima, Maa Ganga is worshiped and millions of lamps are lit on the banks of the ghat. On the banks of the Ganges, it feels as if the entire sky has descended into the Ganges. Let us tell you that the tradition of Devdiwali was started in the year 1915 by lighting thousands of diyas at Panchganga Ghat. By introducing modernity to ancient tradition and culture, a new chapter was invented on the world level. It is believed that the deities celebrate Diwali on the day of Kartik Purnima and on this day the gods entered Kashi.
According to mythological texts, Maharishi Angira has said that, if the number is not resolved while chanting and water in the hand while doing Kusha in bath and charity, then the fruit of action is not obtained. While taking a bath on the day of Kartik Purnima, first wash your hands and feet, then takes a bath with Kusha in your hands, similarly, while donating, you should donate water with your hands.
According to mythological texts, on this day Lord Shiva killed the demon Tripurasur, which is why it is also known as Tripuri Purnima. According to mythological texts, the Matsya avatar of Lord Vishnu took place on Kartik Purnima. According to the scriptures, the place of Goloka is the highest among all the worlds. According to the scriptures, Shri Krishna worshiped Shri Radha in the Rasamandal of Goloka on Kartik Purnima. It was on Kartik Purnima that Goddess Tulsi took birth on earth. On Kartik Purnima, a person becomes free from the bondage of birth by visiting and worshiping the auspicious idol of RadhikaJi and on this day offers Tulsi leaves to Shri Hari.
According to mythological texts, any person who worships Shri Radhakrishna under the Tulsi tree in the month of Kartik with selfless devotion should consider his life free. If there is Bharani Nakshatra on the day of Kartik Purnima, then its importance increases even more. If there is Rohini Nakshatra, then the importance of this full moon increases manifold. On this day, if Moon and Jupiter are on Kritika Nakshatra, then it is called Mahapurnima. If there is Moon on Kritika Nakshatra and Sun on Visakha, then “Padmaka Yoga” is formed in which bathing in the Ganges gives better results than Pushkar.
Let us tell you that the founder of Sikhism and the first Guru Nanak Dev Ji was born on the day of Kartik Purnima. On this day, people associated with Sikhism take a bath in the morning and go to the Gurudwara, listen to the words of Guru Nanak Dev and take a vow to follow the path of religion. Due to the birth of Guru Nanak Dev Ji on the full moon day, this day is also known as Guru Parv.
