दुनिया के कई हिस्सों में ग्रामीण महिलाएं कृषि और खेती से जुड़ी हुई कई कार्यों में योगदान देती है. इस दौरान उन्हें कई तरह की चुनौतियों व परेशानियों (गरीबी, भेदभाव, स्वास्थ्य सुविधाओं की कमी, शिक्षा की पहुंच, और लैंगिक असमानता) का भी सामना करना पड़ता है. ग्रामीण महिलाओं की स्थिति को बेहतर बनाने, उनके अधिकारों की सुरक्षा और उन्हें सामाजिक-आर्थिक रूप से सशक्त बनाने के उद्देश्य से हर वर्ष 15 अक्टूबर को विश्व ग्रामीण महिला दिवस मनाया जाता है.
विश्व ग्रामीण महिला दिवस की शुरुआत 18 दिसंबर 2007 को संयुक्त राष्ट्र महासभा ने एक प्रस्ताव पारित कर किया था. पहली बार विश्व ग्रामीण महिला दिवस 15 अक्टूबर 2008 को मनाया गया था. इस दिन का उद्देश्य ग्रामीण क्षेत्रों में रहने वाली महिलाओं के योगदान को मान्यता देना और उनके अधिकारों, चुनौतियों, और उनके सामाजिक-आर्थिक विकास में किए गए महत्वपूर्ण योगदान को उजागर करना है.
यह दिवस ग्रामीण महिलाओं की स्थिति को बेहतर बनाने, उनके अधिकारों की सुरक्षा और उन्हें सामाजिक-आर्थिक रूप से सशक्त बनाने के प्रयासों को बढ़ावा देता है. यह दिन ग्रामीण क्षेत्रों की महिलाओं के योगदान को उजागर करता है, जो खेती, परिवार की देखभाल, खाद्य सुरक्षा और प्राकृतिक संसाधनों के संरक्षण में अहम भूमिका निभाती हैं.
भारत एक कृषि प्रधान देश है और यहाँ की ग्रामीण महिलाएं कृषि क्षेत्र की रीढ़ मानी जाती चूकिं, ये महिलाऐं बुवाई, निराई, कटाई से लेकर पशुपालन और खाद्य प्रसंस्करण तक में अपना पूर्ण योगदान देती हैं. इन कार्यों में उन्हें कई तरह की चुनौतियों का भी सामना करना पड़ता है. उदाहरण – संपत्ति के अधिकारों में पुरुषों की तुलना में कम भागीदारी, उनके द्वारा किए जाने वाले अवैतनिक घरेलू और कृषि कार्यों का सही मूल्यांकन नहीं होना साथ ही वित्तीय सेवाओं, आधुनिक तकनीक, ऋण और बाजारों तक सीमित पहुंच का होना। वहीं, भारत सरकार कई योजनाएं चला रही है जिनके जरिये हजारों महिलाओं को आत्मनिर्भर बनाया जा रहा है.
हर वर्ष विश्व ग्रामीण महिला दिवस की एक विशेष थीम के जरिये ग्रामीण महिलाओं की स्थिति को सुधारने और उन्हें समर्थन देने के विभिन्न पहलुओं पर ध्यान केंद्रित कर कार्य करती हैं. वर्ष 2026 का थीम है “सभी के लिए अच्छे भोजन का उत्पादन करने वाली ग्रामीण महिलाएं”. यह थीम खाद्य प्रणालियों में उनकी मुख्य भूमिका को रेखांकित करता है.
