Gallbladder Health Day

Gallbladder Health Day is celebrated every year on September 24th. The main purpose of this day is to increase awareness and diagnose gallbladder-related diseases.
The human body is made up of many complex mechanisms. Each mechanism has its own role and functions smoothly. One such organ is the gallbladder. This is a pear-shaped organ located just below the liver that stores bile produced by the liver. Its main function is to release bile juice into the small intestine. This juice helps break down fats and absorb vitamins (A, D, E, K) by the body.
Gallstone-related diseases are rapidly increasing due to modern lifestyles and unhealthy eating habits. The most common condition is gallstones. These are hard, pebble-like structures, usually composed of cholesterol or bilirubin. According to doctors, sometimes stones do not cause any symptoms, but if the bile duct becomes blocked, they can cause sudden pain.
According to doctors, gallstones can cause sudden, sharp pain in the upper right abdomen, pain in the middle abdomen just below the breastbone, back pain between the shoulders, pain in the right shoulder, and nausea or vomiting. Blockage of the bile duct due to stones can cause severe inflammation in the gallbladder. If not treated promptly, this can lead to infection. Obesity and excess weight can also increase the risk of gallstones.
To maintain a healthy gallbladder, special attention needs to be paid to diet. Doctors often recommend consuming high-fiber fruits, vegetables, legumes, and whole grains, and reducing refined carbohydrates and sugar, as well as regular exercise. Drinking adequate water throughout the day helps keep bile juice thin and prevent it from thickening. It is also advisable to avoid excessively fried foods, processed foods, and fast food.
Gallbladder Health Day is not just a day, but a reminder that staying healthy doesn’t mean arbitrarily eliminating fat from your diet or suddenly adopting an extremely low-calorie diet. Don’t ignore problems like persistent stomach pain or indigestion. See a doctor immediately if you experience any discomfort.
