दस महाविद्याओं में तीसरी प्रमुख महाविद्या हैं मां त्रिपुरा सुंदरी. जिन्हें ललिता, षोडशी, राजराजेश्वरी और महात्रिपुरसुंदरी के नाम से भी जाना जाता है. वे सृजन, पालन और संहार की शक्ति का प्रतिनिधित्व करती हैं और ब्रह्मांड की सर्वोच्च चेतना मानी जाती हैं. त्रिपुर सुंदरी नाम का अर्थ है “तीनों लोकों की सबसे सुंदर देवी”, जिसमें स्वर्ग, पृथ्वी और पाताल लोक शामिल हैं. वे अपनी अनुपम सौंदर्य, ऐश्वर्य और सोलह कलाओं से युक्त होने के कारण पूजी जाती हैं.
मां त्रिपुरा सुंदरी का स्वरूप अत्यंत दिव्य और मनमोहक है. वे सोलह वर्ष की कन्या के रूप में वर्णित की जाती हैं, जो पूर्णता और यौवन का प्रतीक है. उनके चार हाथ हैं, जिनमें वे क्रमशः पाश (मोह), अंकुश (नियंत्रण), धनुष (मन) और बाण (इंद्रियां) धारण करती हैं. ये प्रतीक आध्यात्मिक साधना में मन और इंद्रियों पर नियंत्रण के महत्व को दर्शाते हैं.
वे कमल पर विराजमान होती हैं, जो शुद्धता और ज्ञान का प्रतीक है. उनके मस्तक पर अर्धचंद्र सुशोभित होता है और वे लाल वस्त्र धारण करती हैं, जो शक्ति और प्रेम का रंग है. वे महाराजाधिराज के समान आभूषणों से सुसज्जित होती हैं, जो उनके ऐश्वर्य और सार्वभौमिक प्रभुत्व को दर्शाता है.
मां त्रिपुरा सुंदरी को कभी-कभी भगवान शिव के ऊपर विराजमान भी दर्शाया जाता है, जिसका अर्थ है कि वे शिव की शक्ति हैं और उनके बिना शिव निष्क्रिय हैं. वे कामेश्वर (शिव) के साथ अपने अभेद संबंध को दर्शाती हैं, जहां वे स्वयं कामेश्वरी कहलाती हैं.
मां त्रिपुरा सुंदरी को षोडशी इसलिए कहा जाता है क्योंकि वे सोलह प्रकार की इच्छाओं को पूरा करने वाली और सोलह कलाओं से युक्त हैं. ये सोलह कलाएं चंद्र की सोलह कलाओं के समान हैं, जो पूर्णता और परिपूर्णता का प्रतिनिधित्व करती हैं. इन कलाओं में ज्ञान, सौंदर्य, धन, शक्ति, यश, आयु, बल, संतोष, आदि शामिल हैं. उनकी पूजा से भक्त को ये सभी सिद्धियां प्राप्त होती हैं.
मां त्रिपुरा सुंदरी परब्रह्म स्वरूपिणे हैं, जो निराकार ब्रह्म की साकार अभिव्यक्ति हैं. वे चैतन्य शक्ति हैं, जो समस्त सृष्टि का मूल हैं. उनकी उपासना से भक्त अद्वैत भाव को प्राप्त करता है, जहां उसे अपने और ब्रह्मांड के बीच कोई भेद नहीं दिखता. वे त्रिपुर सुंदरी के रूप में तीनों गुणों (सत्व, रजस, तमस), तीनों कालों (भूत, वर्तमान, भविष्य) और तीनों अवस्थाओं (जाग्रत, स्वप्न, सुषुप्ति) से परे हैं.
मां त्रिपुरा सुंदरी की उपासना श्री चक्र या श्री यंत्र के माध्यम से की जाती है, जिसे सभी यंत्रों का राजा माना जाता है. यह यंत्र ब्रह्मांड की संरचना और देवी के विभिन्न पहलुओं का प्रतिनिधित्व करता है. श्री चक्र की उपासना से भौतिक समृद्धि, आध्यात्मिक उत्थान और मोक्ष की प्राप्ति होती है.

She represents the power of creation, preservation and destruction and is considered the supreme consciousness of the universe. The name Tripura Sundari means “the most beautiful goddess of the three worlds”, which includes heaven, earth and netherworld. She is worshipped for her unmatched beauty, opulence and being endowed with sixteen arts.
Maa Tripura Sundari’s form is extremely divine and captivating. She is described as a sixteen-year-old girl, which is a symbol of perfection and youth. She has four hands, in which she holds Pash (attachment), Ankush (control), Dhanush (mind) and Baan (senses) respectively. These symbols depict the importance of control over the mind and senses in spiritual practice.
She sits on a lotus, which is a symbol of purity and wisdom. Her forehead is adorned with a crescent moon, and she wears red clothes, which are the colour of power and love. She is adorned with ornaments like a Maharajadhiraja, which shows her opulence and universal dominance.
Maa Tripura Sundari is sometimes depicted sitting on top of Lord Shiva, which means that she is the power of Shiva, and without her, Shiva is inactive. She shows her inseparable relationship with Kameshwar (Shiva), where she herself is called Kameshwari.
Maa Tripura Sundari is called Shodashi because she is the fulfiller of sixteen types of desires and is endowed with sixteen arts. These sixteen arts are similar to the sixteen arts of the moon, which represent perfection and completeness. These arts include knowledge, beauty, wealth, power, fame, age, strength, satisfaction, etc. By worshipping her, the devotee gets all these siddhis.
