World Urbanism Day

World Urbanism Day is observed to raise awareness about the urban challenges faced by cities worldwide and the importance of planned urban development. It is celebrated annually on November 8th. The purpose of this day is to highlight the significance of urbanization and urban planning, and to demonstrate how sustainable urban development can positively impact our society and the environment.

World Urbanism Day was initiated in 1949 by Professor Carlos María Della Paolera from Argentina. The day emphasizes the importance of planning and building better cities, ensuring a higher standard of living for future generations.

Urbanization is a consequence of rapid population growth and economic development. This day provides a platform for experts, urban planners, governments, and the general public to deliberate on current and future urban challenges—such as population density, housing, a lack of infrastructure, environmental crises, and issues related to transport systems.

On the occasion of World Urbanism Day, various countries organize workshops, seminars, exhibitions, and other activities aimed at promoting the principles of sustainable development and finding solutions to urban problems.
