गंगा सप्तमी जिसे गंगा जयंती भी कहा जाता है. यह पर्व मां गंगा के पृथ्वी पर अवतरण का प्रतीक है और इसे वैशाख माह के शुक्ल पक्ष की सप्तमी तिथि को मनाया जाता है, जो आमतौर पर अप्रैल या मई माह में पड़ता है.

गंगा सप्तमी का धार्मिक महत्व अत्यंत उच्च है. पौराणिक कथाओं के अनुसार, इस दिन मां गंगा स्वर्ग से धरती पर अवतरित हुई थीं. राजा भगीरथ ने अपने पूर्वजों की आत्माओं को मोक्ष दिलाने के लिए कठिन तपस्या की थी, जिसके परिणामस्वरूप गंगा का अवतरण हुआ. भगवान शिव ने गंगा को अपनी जटाओं में धारण किया और धीरे-धीरे उन्हें पृथ्वी पर उतारा, जिससे उनकी तेज धारा से पृथ्वी को नुकसान न पहुंचे. इस दिन को मां गंगा के पवित्रता और शुद्धि के प्रतीक के रूप में मनाया जाता है.
गंगा सप्तमी के दिन, भक्त विशेष पूजा-अर्चना करते हैं और गंगा स्नान का आयोजन करते हैं. मान्यता है कि इस दिन गंगा में स्नान करने से सभी पापों का नाश होता है और पुण्य की प्राप्ति होती है.

On the day of Ganga Saptami, devotees perform special prayers and organize Ganga bath. It is believed that bathing in Ganga on this day destroys all sins and attains virtue.
