10. समुद्रगुप्त के समकालीन बांकानरेश मेघवजे ने उसके पर उपहारों सहित एक दूत मंडल भेजा था तथा गया में एक गढ़ बनवाने की अनुमति मांगी थी.

11. समुद्रगुप्त विजेता के साथ-साथ कवि, संगीतज्ञ और विद्या का संरक्षक भी था. उसने महान बौद्ध विद्वान् वसुबंधु को संरक्षण भी प्रदान किया था.

12. समुद्रगुप्त संगीत प्रेमी था. उसके सिक्कों पर उसे वीणा बजाते भी दिखाया गया है.

13. प्रयाग प्रशस्ति के अनुसार समुद्रगुप्त की दिग्विजय का उद्देश्य ‘धरणिबन्ध’ था. उसके द्वारा उत्तर भारत में अपनाई गयी नीति को प्रसभोद्धरण तथा दक्षिणापाठ में ग्रहणमोक्षानुग्रह कहा गया है.

14. समुद्रगुप्त के पश्चात उसका पुत्र चन्द्रगुप्त द्वितीय गुप्त साम्राज्य का शासक बना. परन्तु विशाखदत्त कृत देवीचंद्र्गुप्त नामक नाटक में समुद्रगुप्त और चन्द्रगुप्त द्वितीय के बीच एक दुर्बल रामगुप्त शासक के अस्तित्व का भी पता चलता है.

15. देवीचंद्र्गुप्त नाटक के अनुसार चन्द्रगुप्त द्वितीय समुद्रगुप्त को पदच्युत करके साम्राज्य के शासन पर बैठा.

16. चन्द्रगुप्त द्वितीय ने शकों पर विजय के पश्चात् विक्रमादित्य की उपाधि धारण की. उसकी अन्य उपलब्धियां विक्रमांक और परम्परागत थीं.

17. चन्द्रगुप्त विक्रमादित्य को भारत के महानतम सम्राटों में से एक माना जाता है, उसने अपने साम्राज्य का विस्तार वैवाहिक संबंधों और विजय दोनों से किया.

18. दिल्ली स्थित महरौली से प्राप्त लौह स्तंभ से जिस पर ‘चन्द्र’ का उल्लेख मिलता है, चन्द्रगुप्त द्वितीय से सम्बंधित बताया जाता है.

19. चन्द्रगुप्त द्वितीय का शासन उसकी विजयों के कारण नहीं बल्कि कला और साहित्य के प्रति उसके अनुराग के कारण विख्यात है.

20. चन्द्रगुप्त द्वितीय कला और साहित्य का महँ संरक्षक था. उसके दरबार में विद्वानों की मंडली रहती थी, जिसे नवरत्न कहा जाता था.

21. चन्द्रगुप्त द्वितीय के समय में पाटलिपुत्र और उज्जयिनी विद्या के प्रमुख केंद्र थे. उज्जयिनी विक्रमादित्य की दूसरी राजधानी थी.

22. चन्द्रगुप्त द्वितीय के शासन काल में चीनी यात्री फाह्यान भारत आया था. उसने अपने यात्रा वृतान्त में मध्य प्रदेश को ब्राह्मणों का देश कहा है.

23. फाह्यान के यात्रा विवरण से चन्द्रगुप्त द्वितीय के काल में शांति पूर्ण और सुखी जीवन की झांकी मिलती है. फाह्यान के अनुसार अतिथि पराजय और दान पराजय हैं. लोगों में धार्मिक सहिष्णुता विद्यमान थी. राज्य की ओर से उनमे किसी प्रकार का हस्तेक्षप नहीं किया जाता था.

24. चन्द्रगुप्त द्वितीय का शासन काल कला संस्कृति और धर्म के लिए उन्नति का काल था.

25. साहित्यिक विकास की दृष्टि में चन्द्रगुप्त द्वितीय अत्यंत समृद्ध था. कालिदास, अमरसिंह और धनवंत आदि उसके समकालीन थे, जिन्होंने महत्वपूर्ण रचनाओं का सृजन किया. कालिदास, धनवंत, अपसक, अमरसिंह, शंकु, वेताल, भट्ट, घटकपट, वराहमिहिर, वररूचि जैसे विद्वान नवरत्नों में शामिल थे.
