हत्याओं की तीन वजहें दुनिया में देखी गयी है, जिसे जर (धन), जोरू (प्रेम संबंध) और ज़मीन कहते हैं। राजीव गांधी की हत्या की क्या वजह थी? इसे अगर लिट्टे के हिसाब से देखें तो एक तरह की ‘ऑनर किलिंग’ हो सकती है कि श्रीलंकाई तमिलों की हत्या का प्रतिशोध लिया। लेकिन ऐसी परिस्थिति में वे चूहा-बिल्ली का खेल नहीं खेलते। न ही इसका खंडन करते। वे गर्व से कहते- ‘हाँ! हमने इस कारण सजा दी’

कभी-कभी शक होता था। जैसे वे लड़कियाँ एक काला बैग लेकर बाहर जाती थी…एक बार शिवरासन ने रसोई में खुदाई कर कुछ सामान ज़मीन के नीचे दबाए। मगर ये सब तो मैंने लिट्टे के लोगों को पहले भी करते देखा था। इसलिए इतने बड़े कांड का शक नहीं हुआ उस दिन कुछ अजीब तो था। शुभा साड़ी पहनने में अमूमन मेरी पत्नी की मदद लेती। उस दिन नहीं ली। धनु ने सलवार कमीज पहनी और एक चश्मा भी डाल लिया, जो वह नहीं पहनती थी। और शिवरासन…सफ़ेद कुर्ता-पाजामा में तो मैं उसे पहचान ही नहीं पाया। मैंने पूछा- कहाँ जा रहे हो?उसने मुझे कैमरा पकड़ा दिया और कहा हमारी फोटो खींचो। मैं फोटो खींचने लगा। मुझे लगा यूँ ही कहीं घूमने जा रहे ।नहीं। अगली सुबह साइकल पर शिवरासन आया और उसने दुखी होकर कहा- राजीव गांधी की हत्या हो गयी धनु के संबंध में कुछ नहीं बताया। शुभा लौट आयी थी। उसके बाद वह दस अखबार मंगवाने लगा उसने कहा कि वह राजीव गांधी हत्या पर खबरें पढ़ना चाहता है। उसे रोचक लगता हैऔर एक दिन’एक दिन मैंने अखबार में शिवरासन की तस्वीर देखी। उसने मेरी तरफ़ देखा। मैं थर-थर काँपने लगा। मेरी पत्नी गर्भवती है। वह तो सकते में आ गयी उसने मुझे दस हज़ार रुपए दिए और मुस्कुरा कर कहा रसोई की मरम्मत कर लो। मैं मूँछें काट लेता हूँ। शायद तुम्हें कम डर लगे।
