एक ऐसा नाम जो हिंदी साहित्य में साहित्यकार, शिक्षक, कवि और फ़िल्मी गीतों के लेखक थे. वे पहले ऐसे व्यक्ति थे जिन्हें शिक्षा और साहित्य के क्षेत्र में भारत सरकार ने पद्म श्री और पद्म भूषण से सम्मानित किया साथ ही फिल्मों में सर्वश्रेष्ठ गीत लिखने के लिए उन्हें लगातार तीन बार फिल्म फेयर पुरस्कार से सम्मानित किया गया.
गोपालदास सक्सेना “नीरज” का जन्म 04 जनवरी 1925 को उत्तर-प्रदेश के इटावा जिले के ब्लाक महेवा के निकट पुरावली गाँव में हुआ था. इनके पिता का नाम ब्रजकिशोर सक्सेना था. गोपालदास की उम्र जब छह वर्ष की थी तो इनके पिता का देहांत हो गया. 1942 में इन्होंने एटा से हाई स्कूल की परीक्षा प्रथम श्रेणी से पास करने के बाद इटावा कचहरी में कुछ समय तक टाइपिस्ट का काम किया उसके बाद इटावा के सिनेमाघर की दुकान पर नौकरी भी की. उसके बाद लम्बे समय तक बेकार हो गये, तब उन्होंने दिल्ली जाकर सफाई विभाग में पुन: टाइपिस्ट की नौकरी की. वहां से नौकरी छुट जाने के बाद कानपुर के डी०ए०वी० कालेज में क्लर्क का काम किया. उसके बाद बाल्क्ट ब्रदर्स नामक एक प्राइवेट कम्पनी में पांच वर्षों तक टाइपिस्ट का काम किया साथ ही प्राइवेट परीक्षायें देकर 1949 में इंटरमीडिएट, 1951 में बी०ए० और 1953 में हिंदी साहित्य से एम्०ए० की परीक्षा प्रथम श्रेणी से पास किया.
गोपालदास “नीरज” ने मेरठ कॉलेज, मेरठ में हिदी प्रवक्ता के पद पर कुछ समय तक अध्यापन का कार्य किया लेकिन कॉलेज प्रशासन के आरोपों के कारण उन्होंने स्वंय ही नौकरी से त्यागपत्र दे दिया. उसके बाद अलीगढ़ के धर्म समाज कॉलेज में हिंदी विभाग के प्रध्यापक नियुक्त हुए और मैरिस रोड जनकपूरी अलीगढ़ में स्थाई आवास बनाकर रहने लगे. कवि सम्मेलनों में लोकप्रियता के कारण उन्हें फिल्मों में गीत लिखने का निमन्त्रण मिला, जिसे नीरज ने सहर्ष स्वीकार कर लिया और एक के बाद एक कई लोकप्रिय गीतों को लिखा. उनके गीत….

वर्तमान समय की सरकार ने सितम्बर में ही “भाषा संस्थान” का अध्यक्ष नामित कर कैबिनेट मंत्री का दर्जा भी दिया था. गोपालदास “नीरज” का ‘जी’ बम्बई की जिन्दगी से बहुत ही जल्दी उचट गया और वो फिल्म नगरी को अलविदा कर वापस अलीगढ़ लौट आये. नीरज की तबीयत मंगलवार 17 जुलाई को खराब हो गई थी, जिसके बाद उन्हें आगरा के लोटस हॉस्पिटल में भर्ती कराया गया था. लेकिन ज्यादा तबीयत खराब होने पर उन्हें एम्स लाया गया, जहाँ उन्होंने अंतिम सांस ली. वो काली शाम 19 जुलाई 2018 की थी.

A name that was a litterateur, teacher, poet, and writer of film songs in Hindi literature. He was the first person to be awarded the Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan by the Government of India in the field of education and literature, as well as the Film-fare Award three times in a row for writing the best lyrics in films.
Gopaldas Saxena “Neeraj” was born on 04 January 1925 in Puravli village near Maheva block of Etawah district of Uttar Pradesh. His father’s name was Brajkishore Saxena. When Gopaldas was six years old, his father passed away. In 1942, after passing the high school examination from Etah with first class, he worked as a typist for some time in the Etawah court, after which he also got a job at a cinema shop in Etawah. After that he became unemployed for a long time, then he went to Delhi and again got a job as a typist in the cleaning department. After leaving the job, he worked as a clerk in DAV College, Kanpur. After that, he worked as a typist for five years in a private company named Balcht Brothers, along with taking private examinations, passed an Intermediate in 1949, a BA in 1951, and an MA in Hindi literature in 1953 with first class.
Gopaldas “Neeraj” worked for some time as a Hindi lecturer at Meerut College, Meerut, but due to the allegations of the college administration, he resigned from the job. After that, he was appointed as a professor of the Hindi department at Dharma Samaj College, Aligarh, and started living in Maris Road, Janakpuri, Aligarh as a permanent resident. The government of the present time had also given the status of a cabinet minister by nominating him as the president of “Bhasha Sansthan” in September itself. Gopaldas “Neeraj”‘s ‘G’ was very quickly disenchanted with Bombay life and he returned to Aligarh after saying goodbye to the film city. Neeraj’s health deteriorated on Tuesday, July 17, after which he was admitted to Lotus Hospital in Agra. But after his health worsened, he was brought to AIIMS, where he breathed his last. That black evening was on 19 July 2018.
