एक बुज़ुर्ग शिक्षिका भीषण गर्मियों के दिन में एक बस में सवार हुई, पैरों के दर्द से बेहाल, लेकिन बस में खाली सीट न देख कर जैसे तैसे खड़ी हो गई. कुछ दूरी ही तय की थी बस ने कि एक उम्रदराज औरत ने बड़े सम्मानपूर्वक आवाज़ दी आ जाइए मैडम आप यहाँ बैठ जाएं कहते हुए उसे अपनी सीट पर बैठा दिया खुद वो बेहद साधारण सी औरत बस में खड़ी हो गई.
मैडम ने दुआ दी, “बहुत-बहुत धन्यवाद, मेरी बुरी हालत थी सच में. उस महिला के चेहरे पर एक सुकून भरी मुस्कान फैल गई. कुछ देर बाद शिक्षिका के पास वाली सीट खाली हो गई. लेकिन महिला ने एक और महिला को, जो एक छोटे बच्चे के साथ यात्रा कर रही थी और मुश्किल से बच्चे को ले जाने में सक्षम थी, को उस सीट पर बिठा दिया. अगले पड़ाव पर बच्चे के साथ महिला भी उतर गई, सीट खाली हो गई, लेकिन नेकदिल महिला ने ख़ुद बैठने का लालच नहीं किया.
उसने फ़िर बस में चढ़े एक कमजोर बूढ़े आदमी को उस सीट पर बैठा दिया जो अभी अभी बस में चढ़ा था. कुछ दूर जाने के बाद सीट फिर से खाली हो गई.
बस में अब गिनी चुनी सवारियां ही रह गईं थीं. अब उस अध्यापिका ने महिला को अपने पास बिठाया और पूछा, “सीट कितनी बार खाली हुई है लेकिन, आप लोगों को ही बैठाते रहे, खुद नहीं बैठे, क्या बात है? महिला ने कहा, मैडम, मैं एक मजदूर हूं औऱ दिन-भर खड़ा रह कर मज़दूरी करने से ही मेरा जीवन चलता है. इसके साथ ही मेरे पास इतने पैसे नहीं हैं कि मैं, कुछ दान पुण्य या दूसरा परोपकार का काम कर सकूं.” तो मैं क्या करती हूं कि कहीं रास्ते से कूड़ा करकट उठाकर एक तरफ कर देती हूं, कभी किसी जरूरतमंद को पानी पिला देती हूं, कभी बस में किसी के लिए सीट छोड़ देती हूं, फिर जब सामने वाला मुझे दुआएं देता है तो मैं अपनी गरीबी भूल जाती हूं. दिन भर की थकान दूर हो जाती है और तो और, जब मैं दोपहर में रोटी खाने के लिए बैठती हूं ना बाहर बेंच पर, तो ये पंछी – चिड़ियां पास आ के बैठ जाते हैं, रोटी डाल देती हूं छोटे-छोटे टुकड़े करके. जब वे खुशी से चिल्लाते हैं, तो उन भगवान के जीवों को देखकर मेरा पेट भर जाता है. पैसा रुपया न सही, सोचती हूं दुआएं तो मिल ही जाती है ना मुफ्त में. फायदा ही है ना और हमने लेकर भी क्या जाना है यहां से.

An elderly teacher boarded a bus on a hot summer day, suffering from pain in her legs, but seeing no vacant seat on the bus, she stood up somehow. The bus had just covered some distance when an old woman called out very respectfully, come, Madam, you sit here and made her sit on her seat saying that very simple woman herself stood in the bus.

After some time the seat near the teacher became vacant. who was traveling with a small child and was barely able to carry the child, was made to sit on that seat. At the next stop, the woman along with the child got down, and the seat became vacant, but the good-natured woman herself offered to sit. Don’t be tempted.
He then made a frail old man sit on the seat that had just boarded the bus. After going some distance, the seat became vacant again.
Now only a few passengers were left on the bus. Now that teacher made the woman sit near her and asked, “How many times the seat has become vacant but, you kept making people sit, did not sit yourself, what’s the matter? The woman said, Madam, I am a laborer and My life goes on only by standing and working as a laborer. Along with this, I do not have enough money to do some charity work or other philanthropy.” So what do I do somewhere I pick up the garbage from the road and put it aside, sometimes I give water to a needy person, sometimes I give up my seat for someone on the bus, then when the person in front of me blesses me, I show my poverty. I forget The tiredness of the whole day goes away and moreover, when I sit outside on the bench in the afternoon to eat roti, then these birds come and sit near me, I put roti in small pieces. When they shout with joy, it fills my stomach to see those creatures of the Lord. Money is not good, I think that blessings are given for free. There is only one benefit, and what do we have to take from here?
