।वेदो शिवम शिवो वेदम।।
भगवन शिव ने कहा था कि कल्पना’ ज्ञान से ज्यादा महत्वपूर्ण होता है. हम जैसी कल्पना करते हैं या यूँ कहें कि, हम जैसा विचार करते हैं वैसा ही हो जाता है. वर्तमान समय से 15 से 20 हजार वर्ष पूर्व वराह काल की शुरुआत में जब देवी-देवताओं ने धरती पर कदम रखे थे, तब उस काल में धरती हिमयुग की चपेट में थी वहीं, भगवान शंकर ने धरती के केंद्र कैलाश को अपना निवास स्थान बनाया था. पौराणिक ग्रंथों के अनुसार शिव ने ही धरती पर जीवन के प्रचार-प्रसार का प्रयास किया इसलिए उन्हें आदि (प्रारम्भ) देव भी कहा जाता है. उन्हें आदिनाथ भी कहा जाता है. भगवान शिव का एक नाम आदेश भी है. आदिश से ही आदेश शब्द बना है. वैदिक काल के रुद्र और उनके अन्य स्वरूप तथा जीवन दर्शन को पुराणों में विस्तार मिला. एक तरफ वेद में जिन्हें हम रूद्र कहते हैं वहीं, पुरानों में शंकर और महेश कहते हैं जबकि, वराह काल के पूर्व के कालों में भी उन्हें रूद्र के नाम से जानते हैं.
भगवान शिव ही दुनिया के सभी धर्मों का मूल हैं वहीं, उनका नाम समस्त मंगलों का मूल है. वे कल्याण की जन्मभूमि तथा शांति के आगार हैं. वेद तथा आगमों में भगवान शिव को विशुद्ध ज्ञानस्वरूप बताया गया है. समस्त विद्याओं के मूल स्थान भी भगवान शिव ही हैं. उनका यह दिव्यज्ञान स्वतः सम्भूत है. ज्ञान, बल, इच्छा और क्रिया-शक्ति में भगवान शिव के समान कोई नहीं है. फिर उनसे अधिक होने का तो कोई प्रश्न ही नहीं उठता. वे सबके मूल कारण, रक्षक, पालक तथा नियंता होने के कारण महेश्वर कहे जाते हैं. उनका आदि और अंत न होने से वे अनंत हैं. वे सभी पवित्रकारी पदार्थों को भी पवित्र करने वाले हैं, इसलिए वे समस्त कल्याण और मंगल के मूल कारण हैं. भगवान शंकर दिग्वसन होते हुए भी भक्तों को अतुल ऐश्वर्य प्रदान करने वाले, अनंत राशियों के अधिपति होने पर भी भस्म-विभूषण, श्मशानवासी होने पर भी त्रैलोक्याधिपति, योगिराज होने पर भी अर्धनारीश्वर, पार्वतीजी के साथ रहने पर भी कामजित तथा सबके कारण होते हुए भी अकारण हैं. आशुतोष और औढरदानी होने के कारण वे शीघ्र प्रसन्न होकर अपने भक्तों के संपूर्ण दोषों को क्षमा कर देते हैं तथा धर्म, अर्थ, काम, मोक्ष, ज्ञान-विज्ञान के साथ अपने आपको भी दे देते हैं. कृपालुता का इससे बड़ा उदाहरण भला और क्या हो सकता है. संपूर्ण विश्व में शिवमंदिर, ज्योतिर्लिंग, स्वयम्भूलिंग से लेकर छोटे-छोटे चबूतरों पर शिवलिंग स्थापित करके भगवान शंकर की सर्वाधिक पूजा उनकी लोकप्रियता का अद्भुत उदाहरण है.
भगवान शंकर की पूजा के लिए सोमवार का दिन पुराणों में निर्धारित किया गया है, लेकिन पौराणिक मान्यताओं में भगवान शंकर की पूजा के लिए सर्वश्रेष्ठ दिन महाशिवरात्रि, उसके बाद सावन के महीने में आनेवाला प्रत्येक सोमवार, फिर हर महीने आनेवाली शिवरात्रि और सोमवार का महत्व होता है. लेकिन भगवान को श्रावण का महीना बेहद प्रिय है, जिसमें वह अपने भक्तों पर अतिशय कृपा बरसाते हैं. ऐसा माना जाता है कि, दक्ष पुत्री माता सती ने अपने जीवन का त्याग कर कई वर्षो तक शापित जीवन जिया था, फिर हिमालयराज के घर पार्वती के रूप में जन्म लेकर भगवान शिव को पति रूप में पाने के लिए माता पार्वती ने पुरे सावन के महीने कठोर तप कर भगवान शिव को पतिरूप में वरण किया था. अपनी भार्या से पुनःमिलाप के चलते भगवान शिव को ये महीना अतिप्रिय होता है.

On the one hand, in the Vedas, we call them Rudra, while in the Puranas they are called Shankar and Mahesh, whereas, even in the pre-Varaha period, they are known by the name of Rudra.
Lord Shiva is the root of all the religions of the world, while his name is the root of all auspiciousness. They are the birthplace of welfare and the storehouse of peace. Lord Shiva has been described as pure knowledge in Vedas and Agamas. Lord Shiva is also the original place of all education. This divine knowledge of his is self-existent. There is no one equal to Lord Shiva in knowledge, strength, will, and action. Then there is no question of being more than them. He is called Maheshwar because of being the root cause, protector, maintainer, and controller of all. They are infinite because they have no beginning and no end. He is also the purifier of all the purifying substances, therefore He is the root cause of all welfare and auspiciousness. Lord Shankar, despite being Digvasan, bestows incomparable opulence to the devotees, Bhasma Vibhushan despite being the ruler of infinite zodiac signs, Trilokyadhipati despite being a cremation ground, Ardhanarishwar despite being Yogiraj, Kamjit even after being with Parvatiji and being the cause of all. are without reason. Being Ashutosh and generous, he quickly forgives all the faults of his devotees and gives himself along with religion, meaning, work, salvation, knowledge, and science. What can be a better example of kindness than this? From Shiv Mandir, Jyotirlinga, and Swayambhulinga to Shivlinga installed on small platforms, maximum worship of Lord Shankar is a wonderful example of his popularity all over the world.
The day of Monday for the worship of Lord Shankar has been prescribed in the Puranas, but in mythological beliefs, the best day for the worship of Lord Shankar is Mahashivratri, then every Monday coming in the month of Sawan, then every month’s Shivratri and Monday are important. Is. But the month of Shravan is very dear to God, in which he showers great blessings on his devotees. It is believed that Daksh’s daughter Mata Sati sacrificed her life and lived a cursed life for many years, then being born as Parvati in the house of Himalayaraj, Mata Parvati spent the whole month of Sawan to get Lord Shiva as her husband. By performing severe penance Lord Shiva was chosen as husband. This month is very dear to Lord Shiva because of his reunion with his wife.
