आज पुरे विश्व में स्वास्थ्य दिवस मनाया जा रहा है. पूरी दुनिया के लोग स्वस्थ हों, इसके लिए संयुक्त राष्ट्र ने आज ही दिन वर्ष 1948 को विश्व स्वास्थ्य संगठन की स्थापना की गई थी. डब्ल्यूएचओ का पूरा नाम World health organization(वर्ल्ड हेल्थ ऑर्गेनाइजेशन). इस संगठन का मुख्य उद्देश्य है कि, दुनिया भर के लोगों के स्वास्थ्य का स्तर बेहतर हो.
बताते चलें कि, डब्ल्यूएचओ का मुख्यालय जेनेवा (स्विट्जरलैंड) में स्थित है. इसकी स्थापना पर 22 जुलाई 1946 को संयुक्त राष्ट्र के तत्कालीन सभी 61 सदस्य देशों ने सहमति जताई थी. वर्तमान समय में 194 देश विश्व स्वास्थ्य संगठन के सदस्य हैं. सात (07) अप्रैल 1948 को विश्व स्वास्थ्य संगठन (डब्लूएचओ) की नींव रखी गई थी. यही कारण है कि दुनियाभर में आज ही के दिन विश्व स्वास्थ्य दिवस के रूप में मनाया जाता है. डब्ल्यूएचओ के कर्मचारी सभी लोगों के लिए स्वास्थ्य के उत्तम स्तर को सुनिश्चित करने के लिए सरकारों और अन्य भागीदारों के साथ मिलकर काम करते हैं.
विश्व स्वास्थ्य संगठन का काम पिछड़े देशों में गंभीर बीमारियों से जूझ रहे लोगों को दवाईयां मुहैया कराना, ख़तरनाक वायरस से बचाव के लिए टीकाकरण कार्यक्रम चलाना और दुनियाभर में विभिन्न बीमारियों से जूझ रहे लोगों का सर्वे आदि करना है. वहीं डब्लूएचओ स्वास्थ्य प्रणाली, स्वास्थ्य को बढ़ावा देना, गैर-संचारी रोग/संचारी रोग, कॉर्पोरेट सेवाएं तैयार करना, निगरानी और प्रतिक्रिया आदि पर भी काम करती है.
डब्ल्यूएचओ की स्थापना से अब तक संगठन ने कई जानलेवा बीमारियों और चेचक जैसी महामारियों को मिटाने में उल्लेखनीय कदम उठाए हैं. इस समय संगठन का खास ध्यान टीबी, कैंसर और एचआईवी जैसी बड़ी बीमारियों पर है जो अंतरराष्ट्रीय स्तर पर चुनौती के रूप में सामने खड़ी हैं. पोषण, खाद्य सुरक्षा और यौन संबंधी बीमारियां भी डब्ल्यूएचओ के कार्यक्षेत्र में अहम हैं.

Today Health Day is being celebrated all over the world. The World Health Organization was established by the United Nations on this day in the year 1948, for the people of the whole world to be healthy. The full name of WHO is World health organization. The main objective of this organization is to improve the level of health of people around the world.
Let us tell you that the headquarters of WHO is located in Geneva (Switzerland). Its establishment was agreed upon on 22 July 1946 by all the then 61 member countries of the United Nations. At present, 194 countries are members of the World Health Organisation. The foundation of the World Health Organization (WHO) was laid on 7 (07) April 1948. This is the reason why today is celebrated as World Health Day all over the world. WHO staff works with governments and other partners to ensure the best possible level of health for all people.
The work of the World Health Organization is to provide medicines to people suffering from serious diseases in backward countries, to run vaccination programs to prevent dangerous viruses, and to conduct surveys of people suffering from various diseases around the world. At the same time, WHO also works on the health system, promotion of health, non-communicable diseases / communicable diseases, preparation of corporate services, monitoring, and response, etc.
Since the establishment of WHO, the organization has taken remarkable steps in eradicating many deadly diseases and epidemics like smallpox. At present, the special focus of the organization is on major diseases like TB, cancer, and HIV, which are standing in front as a challenge at the international level. Nutrition, food security, and sexually transmitted diseases are also important areas of WHO’s work.
