1. स्टार थियेटर:- आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1883 में भारत के पहले सार्वजनिक थियेटर हॉल “स्टार थियेटर” की शुरुआत कोलकाता में हुई थी. गिरीश चंद्र घोष द्वारा लिखित ‘दक्ष यज्ञ’ नामक नाटक की प्रस्तुति भी 21 जुलाई को हुई थी. इस नाटक में घोष ने स्वयं ही मुख्य किरदार को निभाया था.
2. स्वतंत्रता सेनानी जयरामदास दौलतराम:- आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1890 में स्वतंत्रता सेनानी जयरामदास दौलतराम का जन्म कराची (अब पाकिस्तान में) के एक सम्पन्न क्षत्रिय परिवार में हुआ था. जयरामदास मेधावी छात्र थे और हाईस्कूल की परीक्षा में वे पूरे सिंध प्रांत में प्रथम आए थे. बी.ए. की परीक्षा में पूरी प्रेसिडेंसी में (जिसमें सिंध भी सम्मिलित था) उन्होंने दूसरा स्थान प्राप्त किया था. मुंबई से जयरामदास ने क़ानून की डिग्री ली और कराची में वकालत करने लगे. बताते चलें कि, विद्यार्थी जीवन में ही जयरामदास का संपर्क  गोपालकृष्ण गोखले, लोकमान्य तिलक, फ़िरोजशाह मेहता और गांधी जी आदि से हो चुका था.  इन संपर्कों ने उन्हें राजनीतिक गतिविधियों की ओर आकृष्ट किया. वर्ष 1916 में एनी बेसेंट की ‘होमरूल लीग’ के प्रादेशिक सचिव बनकर वे सार्वजनिक क्षेत्र में आए और वकालत पीछे छूट गई. वर्ष 1919 की अमृतसर कांग्रेस में जयरामदास दौलतराम ने भाग लिया. उसके बाद ही ‘हिन्दुस्तान’ नामक राष्ट्रीय पत्र का संपादन करने लगे. लाला लाजपतराय और मालवीय जी के आग्रह पर वे वर्ष 1925 में दिल्ली के प्रसिद्ध अंग्रेज़ी दैनिक ‘हिन्दुस्तान टाइम्स’ के संपादक बने. दो वर्ष बाद सिंध से लौटने पर मुंबई में नमक सत्याग्रह में वे मुख्य संगठनकर्ता थे और भीड़ पर पुलिस की गोलीबारी में उनके पेट में भी एक गोली लग गई थी. स्वतंत्रता के बाद जयरामदास दौलतराम संविधान परिषद के सदस्य, कुछ समय तक बिहार के राज्यपाल, केन्द्र सरकार में खाद्य और कृषि मंत्री रहे.
3. भारतीय राष्ट्रीय कांग्रेस के प्रथम अध्यक्ष व्योमेश चन्द्र बनर्जी:-  आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1906 में भारतीय राष्ट्रीय कांग्रेस के प्रथम अध्यक्ष व्योमेश चन्द्र  बनर्जी का निधन हुआ था.
4. साहित्यकार उमाशंकर जोशी:- आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1911 में साहित्यकार उमाशंकर जोशी का जन्म गुजरात के साबरकांठा ज़िले के एक गांव में हुआ था. उनकी औपचारिक शिक्षा खंडों में पूरी हुई थी. वर्ष 1930 में असहयोग आंदोलन में भाग लेने के लिए विद्यालय छोड़ दिया था. वर्ष 1936 में उमाशंकर जोशी ने मुंबई विश्वविद्यालय से एम.ए. किया था. वर्ष 1931 में प्रकाशित काव्य संकलन ‘विश्वशांती’ से उनकी ख्याति एक समर्थ कवि के रूप में हो गई थी. जोशीजी अध्यापक और संपादक रहे थे. वे गुजरात विश्वविद्यालय में प्रोफेसर, विभागाध्यक्ष और वाइस चांसलर भी बने. जोशीजी को राज्यसभा का सदस्य भी नामजद किया गया था. जोशीजी को साहित्य अकादमी का अध्यक्ष बनाया गया था. वर्ष 1979 में जोशीजी को शांतिनिकेतन विश्वविद्यालय के कुलपति भी नियुक्त किए गए थे.
5. गीतकार आनंद बख्शी:- आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1930 में गीतकार आनंद बख्शी का जन्म पाकिस्तान के रावलपिंडी शहर में हुआ था. उनका वास्तविक नाम आनंद प्रकाश था. आनंद बख़्शी के दादाजी सुघरमल वैद बख़्शी रावलपिण्डी में ब्रिटिश राज के दौरान सुपरिंटेंडेण्ट ऑफ़ पुलिस थे जबकि, उनके पिता मोहन लाल वैद बख़्शी रावलपिण्डी में एक बैंक मैनेजर थे, और जिन्होंने देश विभाजन के बाद भारतीय सेना को सेवा प्रदान की थी. आनंद बख़्शी जब 10 वर्ष के थे तब उनकी माता का देहांत हो गया था. उनकी सौतेली माँ ने उनके साथ अच्छा व्यवहार नहीं किया. आनंद बख़्शी बचपन से ही फ़िल्मों में काम करके शोहरत की बुंलदियों तक पहुंचने का सपना देखा करते थे. और अपने सपने को पूरा करने के लिए 14 वर्ष की उम्र में ही घर से भागकर फ़िल्म नगरी मुंबई आ गए, और उन्होंने ‘रॉयल इंडियन नेवी’ में कैडेट के तौर पर 2 वर्ष तक काम किया था. भगवान दादा ने उन्हें अपनी फ़िल्म ‘बड़ा आदमी’ में गीतकार के रूप में काम करने का मौक़ा दिया लेकिन इस फिल्म से एक गीतकार के रूप में उनके सिने कैरियर का सफर शुरू हो गया था. वर्ष 1965 में ‘जब जब फूल खिले’ प्रदर्शित हुई उसके बाद आनंद बख्शी की पहचान गीतकार के रुप में बानी थी. बताते चलें कि, आनंद बख़्शी  ने अपनी माँ के प्यार को सलाम करते हुए कई गानें भी लिखे जैसे कि “माँ तुझे सलाम” (खलनायक), “माँ मुझे अपने आंचल में छुपा ले” (छोटा भाई), “तू कितनी भोली है” (राजा और रंक) और “मैंने माँ को देखा है” (मस्ताना).
6. राजनीतिज्ञ शंकरसिंह वाघेला:- आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1940 में राजनीतिज्ञ शंकरसिंह वाघेला का जन्म हुआ था.
7. क्रिकेट खिलाड़ी चेतन चौहान:- आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1947 में क्रिकेट खिलाड़ी चेतन चौहान का जन्म बरेली में हुआ था. क्रिकेटर के तौर पर वर्ष 1969-81 तक के समय में चेतन चौहान ने 40 टेस्ट और सात वनडे खेले. टेस्ट में उन्होंने 16 अर्धशतकों के साथ 2,084 रन बनाए, लेकिन वह कभी शतक नहीं बना पाए. चेतन चौहान उत्तर प्रदेश के अमरोहा ज़िले के नौगांव सादात के विधान सभा के सदस्य थे एवं उत्तर प्रदेश सरकार में खेल एवं युवा मामले मंत्री भी रहे थे.
8. क्रिकेट खिलाड़ी चंदू बोर्डे:- आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1951 में क्रिकेट खिलाड़ी चंदू बोर्डे का जन्म पुणे, बॉम्बे प्रेसीडेंसी, ब्रिटिश भारत में हुआ था. बोर्डे वर्ष 1958-70 के बीच में भारतीय क्रिकेट टीम के सदस्य थे. उन्हे सन 2002 में भारत सरकार द्वारा खेल के क्षेत्र में पद्म भूषण से सम्मानित किये  गए थे.
9. विश्वविद्यालय का दर्जा:- आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1963 में काशी विद्यापीठ को डीम्ड विश्वविद्यालय का दर्जा मिला था. वहीं, जनवरी 1974 में इसे राज्य विश्वविद्यालय क दर्जा मिला था.
10. प्रमोचित किया:- आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1988 में इन्सैट-1 सी को 1988 में इन्सैट प्रणाली को पूर्ण रूप से सक्षम बनाने के लिए 5° पूर्व स्थिति के लिए कोरू से प्रमोचित किया गया था.
11. कैप्टन संगमा:- आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1989 में मेघालय के प्रथम मुख्यमंत्री कैप्टन संगमा बने थे. इनका कार्यकाल 21 जुलाई 1989 से 7 फरवरी 1990 तक था. कैप्टन संगमा का जन्म 18 अक्टूबर 1919 को दक्षिण गारो पहाड़ी जिला, अब बाघमारा में हुआ था. उनका पूरा नाम विलियमसन अम्पांग संगमा था.
12. अभिनेता शिवाजी गणेशन:- आज ही के दिन वर्ष 2001 में तमिल अभिनेता शिवाजी गणेशन का निधन हुआ था.
13. गायिका गंगूबाई हंगल:- आज ही के दिन वर्ष 2009 में खयाल गायिका गंगूबाई हंगल का निधन हुआ था. गायिका गंगूबाई हंगल किराना घराने का प्रतिनिधित्व करती थी. उन्होंने जातीय बाधाओं को पार कर संगीत क्षेत्र में अपना योगदान दिया था.
14. राजनीतिज्ञ लालजी टंडन:- आज ही के दिन वर्ष 2020 में बीजेपी के वरिष्ठ राजनीतिज्ञ लालजी टंडन का निधन लखनऊ के मेदांता हॉस्पिटल में हुआ था.

1. Star Theatre: – On this day in the year 1883, India’s first public theater hall “Star Theatre” was started in Kolkata. The presentation of the drama named ‘Daksha Yagya’ written by Girish Chandra Ghosh also took place on 21 July. Ghosh himself played the main character in this play.
2. Freedom fighter Jairamdas Daulatram:- On this day in the year 1890, freedom fighter Jairamdas Daulatram was born in a prosperous Kshatriya family in Karachi (now in Pakistan). Jairamdas was a brilliant student and stood first in the entire Sindh province in the high school examination. B.A. In the examination of the entire presidency (which included Sindh), he got the second position. Jairamdas took a law degree from Mumbai and started practicing law in Karachi. Let us tell you that Jairamdas had contact with Gopalkrishna Gokhale, Lokmanya Tilak, Ferozeshah Mehta, Gandhiji, etc. in his student life itself. These contacts attracted him to political activities. In the year 1916, he came to the public sector by becoming the regional secretary of Annie Besant’s ‘Home Rule League’ and the advocacy was left behind. Jairamdas Daulatram participated in the Amritsar Congress of the year 1919. Only after that, he started editing the national paper named ‘Hindustan’. At the request of Lala Lajpatrai and Malviya ji, he became the editor of Delhi’s famous English daily ‘Hindustan Times’ in the year 1925. On his return from Sindh after two years, he was the main organizer of the Salt Satyagraha in Mumbai and he was also hit by a bullet in the stomach when the police fired on the crowd. After independence, Jairamdas Daulatram was a member of the Constituent Assembly, Governor of Bihar for some time, and Minister of Food and Agriculture in the Central Government.
3. First President of Indian National Congress, Vyomesh Chandra Banerjee:- On this day in the year 1906, the first President of Indian National Congress, Vyomesh Chandra Banerjee passed away.
4. Writer Umashankar Joshi:- On this day in the year 1911, writer Umashankar Joshi was born in a village in Sabarkantha district of Gujarat. His formal education was completed in sections. Left the school in the year 1930 to participate in the non-cooperation movement. In the year 1936, Umashankar Joshi did his M.A. from Mumbai University. did. With the poetry collection ‘Vishwashanti’ published in the year 1931, he became famous as a capable poet. Joshiji had been a teacher and editor. He also became a Professor, Head of Department, and Vice Chancellor of Gujarat University. Joshi ji was also nominated as a member of the Rajya Sabha. Joshi ji was made the president of Sahitya Akademi. In the year 1979, Joshiji was also appointed as the Vice-Chancellor of Santiniketan University.
5. Lyricist Anand Bakshi:- On this day in the year 1930, lyricist Anand Bakshi was born in Rawalpindi city of Pakistan. His real name was Anand Prakash. Anand Bakshi’s paternal grandfather, Sugarmal Vaid Bakshi, was a Superintendent of Police in Rawalpindi during the British Raj, while his father, Mohan Lal Vaid Bakshi, was a bank manager in Rawalpindi, who served in the Indian Army after the partition of the country. When Anand Bakshi was 10 years old, his mother died. His stepmother did not treat him well. Anand Bakshi used to dream of reaching the heights of fame by working in films since childhood. And to fulfill his dream, he ran away from home at the age of 14 and came to the film city of Mumbai, and worked for 2 years as a cadet in the ‘Royal Indian Navy’. Bhagwan Dada gave him an opportunity to work as a lyricist in his film ‘Bada Aadmi’ but his cine career as a lyricist started from this film. In the year 1965, ‘Jab Jab Phool Khile’ was released, and after that Anand Bakshi was recognized as a lyricist. Let us tell that, Anand Bakshi also wrote many songs saluting his mother’s love such as “Maa Tujhe Salaam” (Khalnayak), “Maa Mujhe Apne Aanchal Me Chupa Le” (Younger Brother), “Tu Kitni Bholi Hai”. (Raja Aur Ranka) and “I have seen mother” (Mastana).
6. Politician Shankersinh Vaghela: – On this day in the year 1940, politician Shankersinh Vaghela was born.
7. Cricketer Chetan Chauhan:- On this day in the year 1947, cricketer Chetan Chauhan was born in Bareilly. As a cricketer, during the period 1969-81, Chetan Chauhan played 40 Tests and seven ODIs. In Tests, he scored 2,084 runs with 16 half-centuries, but he could never score a century. Chetan Chauhan was a member of the Legislative Assembly of Naugaon Sadat in the Amroha district of Uttar Pradesh and was also the Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs in the Government of Uttar Pradesh.
8. Cricketer Chandu Borde:- On this day in the year 1951, cricketer Chandu Borde was born in Pune, Bombay Presidency, British India. Borde was a member of the Indian cricket team between 1958-70. He was awarded the Padma Bhushan in the field of sports by the Government of India in 2002.
9. University Status:- On this day in the year 1963, Kashi Vidyapeeth got the status of Deemed University. At the same time, in January 1974, it got the status of State University.
10. Launched:- On this day in the year 1988, INSAT-1C was launched from Koru to a position of 93.5° East to make the INSAT system fully operational in 1988.
11. Captain Sangma:- On this day in the year 1989, Captain Sangma became the first Chief Minister of Meghalaya. His tenure was from 21 July 1989 to 7 February 1990. Captain Sangma was born on 18 October 1919 in South Garo Hills District, now Baghmara. His full name was Williamson Ampang Sangma.
12. Actor Sivaji Ganesan: – On this day in the year 2001, Tamil actor Sivaji Ganesan passed away.
13. Singer Gangubai Hangal:- On this day in the year 2009, Khayal singer Gangubai Hangal passed away. Singer Gangubai Hangal represented Kirana Gharana. He had contributed to the music field by crossing caste barriers.
14. Politician Lalji Tandon:- On this day in the year 2020, senior BJP politician Lalji Tandon passed away at Medanta Hospital in Lucknow.
