- ‘राधा स्वामी सत्संग’ के संस्थापक शिव दयाल साहब:- आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1878 में ‘राधा स्वामी सत्संग’ के संस्थापक शिव दयाल साहब का निधन हुआ था.
- क्रांतिकारी तारकनाथ दास :- आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1884 में क्रांतिकारी तारकनाथ दास का जन्म बंगाल के 24 परगना ज़िले में हुआ था.तारकनाथ दास बड़े प्रतिभाशाली विद्यार्थी थे. छात्र-जीवन में ही उनका संपर्क अरविन्द घोष, सुरेन्द्रनाथ बनर्जी और चितरंजन दास जैसे नेताओं से हुआ. देशभक्ति के रंग में रंगे इन नेताओं के सम्पर्क में आकर तारकनाथ दास क्रान्तिकारी आंदोलन में सम्मिलित हो गए और देश के क्रान्तिकारी सिपाही बन गए. उन्होंने अपना अध्ययन बीच में ही छोड़ दिया.लेकिन बाद में पुन: अध्ययन प्रारम्भ कर इन्होंने पी.एच. डी. की उपाधि प्राप्त की थी. तारकनाथ दास पर अमेरिका में मुकदमा चला था, जहाँ इन्हें क़ैद की सज़ा सुनाई गई थी.
- चित्रकार एवं मूर्तिकार देवी प्रसाद राय चौधरी:- आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1899 में चित्रकार एवं मूर्तिकार देवी प्रसाद राय चौधरी का जन्म मीरपुर (पाकिस्तान) में हुआ था. वर्ष 1942 में असहयोग आंदोलन के दौरान पुराने सचिवालय भवन पर कांग्रेसी झंडा लहराया था. इस ‘शहीद स्मृति’ का निर्माण पटना में देवी प्रसाद राय चौधरी ने किया था. जिसमें यह दिखाया गया है कि एक वीर पुरुष झंडा ले जा रहा है तथा 6 अन्य ब्रिटिश पुलिस की गोली लगने से नीचे गिर गए हैं.
- राजेन्द्र सिंह जडेजा:- आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1899 में भारतीय थल सेना के प्रथम थल सेनाध्यक्ष राजेन्द्र सिंह जडेजा का जन्म काठियावाड़ इलाके के सरोदार में हुआ, जो भारत के पश्चिमी राज्य गुजरात में स्थित है.उनका परिवार नवानगर नामक भारतीय रियासत के शासक वंश से है.देवी सिंहजी दो क्रिकेट दिग्गजों के. एस. रणजीत सिंहजी के बड़े भाई के. एस. दुलीप सिंहजी के चाचा थे. राजेन्द्र सिंहजी जडेजा को ‘चीफ ऑफ आर्मी स्टाफ’ पद की स्थापना होने के बाद भारतीय सेना का पहला थलसेना प्रमुख होने का गौरव प्राप्त हुआ. जनरल महाराज राजेन्द्र सिंहजी जडेजा दुनिया की दूसरी सबसे बड़ी फौज इंडियन आर्मी के पहले चीफ थे. ब्रिटिश काल के दौरान आर्मी में भर्ती होने वाले राजेन्द्र सिंहजी जडेजा ने वर्ष 1921 में सेकेंड लेफ्टिनेंट के पद पर भारतीय सेना की सेकेंड लेंसर यूनिट में कमीशन प्राप्त किया था.
- शेयर बाज़ार की शुरुआत:- आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1908 में शेयर बाज़ार की शुरुआत कलकत्ता में हुई.
- कलाकार के. के. हेब्बार:- आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1911 में कलाकार के. के. हेब्बार का जन्म उडुपी के नज़दीक कटिंगेरी में तुलु भाषी ब्राह्मण परिवार में हुआ था. बचपन से ही हेब्बार का रुझान कला की ओर था क्योंकि उनके पिता सामयिक मूर्तिकार थे जो गणेश की मूर्तियाँ बनाते थे.
- साहित्यकार श्रीमन्नारायण अग्रवाल:- आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1912 में साहित्यकार श्रीमन्नारायण अग्रवाल का जन्म उत्तर प्रदेश के इटावा में हुआ था. वो जमनालाल बजाज के जमाई थे. जीवन के अन्तिम वर्षों में गुजरात के राज्यपाल नियुक्त हुए थे.
- संगीतकार सज्जाद हुसैन:- आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1917 में संगीतकार सज्जाद हुसैन का जन्म सीतामऊ में हुआ था, जो उस समय तत्कालीन केन्द्रीय भारत एजेंसी का एक गांव, जिसे अब मध्य प्रदेश कहा जाता था.सज्जाद हुसैन ने अपने किशोरी के वर्षों में वीणा, वायलिन, बांसुरी और पियानो सीखा। वह एक सफल खिलाड़ी भी थे. वर्ष 1937 में सज़ाद हुसैन ने फ़िल्म संगीतकार के रूप में अपनी किस्मत आजमाने का फैसला किया और अपने बड़े भाई निसार हुसैन के साथ बम्बई (वर्तमान मुम्बई) आ गए.लता मंगेशकर का कहना था कि “मैं सज्जाद साहब की ‘संगदिल’ के गीतों को अपने कॅरियर में एक बड़ी उपलब्धि के रूप में देखती हूँ.
- अभिनेत्री और गायिका सुरैया:- आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1929 में अभिनेत्री और गायिका सुरैया का जन्म गुजरांवाला, पंजाब (वर्तमान पाकिस्तान) में हुआ था. सुरैया का पूरा नाम पूरा नाम सुरैया जमाल शेख़ है. उन्होंने 40वें- 50वें दशक में इन्होंने हिन्दी सिनेमा में अपना योगदान दिया. नाज़ों से पली सुरैया ने हालांकि संगीत की शिक्षा नहीं ली थी लेकिन आगे चलकर उनकी पहचान एक बेहतरीन अदाकारा के साथ एक अच्छी गायिका के रूप में भी बनी. सुरैया के फ़िल्मी कैरियर की शुरुआत उनके चाचा जहूर सुरैया जो गुजरे ज़माने के मशहूर खलनायक थे और उनकी वजह से वर्ष 1937 में उन्हें फ़िल्म ‘उसने क्या सोचा’ में पहली बार बाल कलाकार के रूप में भूमिका मिली थी.एक वक़्त था, जब रोमांटिक हीरो देव आनंद सुरैया के दीवाने हुआ करते थे. लेकिन अंतत: यह जोड़ी वास्तविक जीवन में जोड़ी नहीं पाई. अभिनय के अलावा सुरैया ने कई यादगार गीत गाए, जो अब भी काफ़ी लोकप्रिय है. इन गीतों में, सोचा था क्या मैं दिल में दर्द बसा लाई, तेरे नैनों ने चोरी किया, ओ दूर जाने वाले, वो पास रहे या दूर रहे, तू मेरा चाँद मैं तेरी चाँदनी, मुरली वाले मुरली बजा आदि शामिल हैं.
- ध्रुपद गायक ज़िया फ़रीदुद्दीन डागर:- आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1932 में ध्रुपद गायक ज़िया फ़रीदुद्दीन डागर का जन्म राजस्थान के उदयपुर में हुआ था, जहां उनके पिता उदयपुर के महाराणा भूपाल सिंह के दरबार में संगीतज्ञ थे.उन्होंने संगीत की शिक्षा अपने पिता उस्ताद ज़ियाउद्दीन खान साहब से ली थी. पिता ने उन्हें ध्रुपद गायन और वीणा वादन में प्रशिक्षित किया. पिता की मृत्यु के बाद उन्होंने अपने बड़े भाई से संगीत की शिक्षा ली. उस्ताद ज़िया फ़रीदुद्दीन डागर उस परिवार से हैं जिसने 19 पीढिय़ों तक ध्रुपद गायकी को आगे बढ़ाया.मध्य प्रदेश सरकार द्वारा उन्हें तानसेन सम्मान दिया.
- समाजसेवक अण्णा हज़ारे:- आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1937 में गांधीवादी विचारधारा पर चलने वाले समाजसेवक अण्णा हज़ारे का जन्म महाराष्ट्र के अहमदनगर ज़िले के भिनगरी क़स्बे में हुआ था. अन्ना का पुश्तैनी गाँव अहमदनगर ज़िले में स्थित रालेगण सिद्धि में था. हज़ारे का बचपन बहुत ग़रीबी और अभावों में गुज़रा. उनके पिता आयुर्वेद आश्रम में एक साधारण मज़दूर थे जबकि, उनके दादा फ़ौज में थे. अन्ना भी साठ के दशक वर्ष 1963 में अपने दादा की तरह फ़ौज में भर्ती हो गये. उनकी पहली पोस्टिंग मराठा रेजीमेंट में बतौर ड्राइवर पंजाब में हुई. 15 साल फ़ौज में पूरे होने पर 1975 में उन्होंने फ़ौज की नौकरी से स्वैच्छिक अवकाश लेकर अपने पारिवारिक गांव रालेगण सिद्धी लौटे तो गांव में लोगों की शराबखोरी और गांव की बदहाली से काफ़ी आहत हुए। लोगों को सुधारने के बहुत जतन किए.उसके बाद उन्होंने गाँव की तस्वीर ही बदल डाली और साथ ही अन्ना भ्रष्ट्राचार के ख़िलाफ़ आंदोलन में कूद पड़े. महात्मा गांधी के बाद अन्ना हजारे ने ही भूख हड़ताल और आमरण अनशन को सबसे ज़्यादा बार बतौर हथियार इस्तेमाल किया है. भ्रष्ट प्रशासन की खिलाफवर्जी हो या सूचना के अधिकार का इस्तेमाल, हजारे हमेशा आम आदमी की आवाज़ उठाने के लिए आगे आते रहे हैं.
- भारत के विभाजन के लिए ब्रिटिश योजना :- आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1947 में अखिल भारतीय कांग्रेस ने नई दिल्ली में भारत के विभाजन के लिए ब्रिटिश योजना को स्वीकार किया. आजादी की आड़ में अंग्रेज भारत को कभी न भरने वाला यह जख्म दे गए.
