- अकबर ने हेमू को हराया: – आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1556 को अफगान बादशाह आदिलशाह सूर के सेनापति और मंत्री हेमू {उत्तर भारत के हेमचंद्र विक्रमादित्य (लोकप्रिय नाम- हेमू)} और अकबर के बीच दूसरी लड़ाई हुई थी. इस लड़ाई में हेमू के पास अकबर से कहीं अधिक बड़ी सेना तथा 1,500 हाथी थे. शुरुआती दौर के मुकाबले में हेमू को सफलता प्राप्त हुई, लेकिन दुर्भाग्य से एक तीर हेमू की आंख में घुस गया और वह अपने हाथी से गिर गया. उसके बाद मुगलों ने पकड़ का मार दिया.
- स्वतंत्रता सेनानी चित्तरंजन दास: – आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1870 में स्वतंत्रता सेनानी चित्तरंजन दास का जन्म कोलकाता के तत्कालीन ढाका ज़िले में तेलीरबाग़ के एक उच्च मध्यवर्गीय वैद्य परिवार में हुआ था. उनके पिता भुबन मोहन दास कोलकाता उच्च न्यायालय में एक जाने माने वकील थे. वहीं , चित्तरंजन दास भी कलकत्ता उच्च न्यायालय के विख्यात वक़ील थे, जिन्होंने अलीपुर बम केस में अरविन्द घोष की पैरवी की थी. चित्तरंजन दास ने गांधीजी के असहयोग आंदोलन में भाग लिया और पूर्णतया राजनीति में आ गए. उन्होंने भारतीय राष्ट्रीय कांग्रेस के सिद्धान्तों का प्रचार करते हुए सारे देश का भ्रमण किया था. चित्तरंजन दास वर्ष 1922 ई. में भारतीय राष्ट्रीय कांग्रेस के अध्यक्ष नियुक्त हुए थे. उन्होंने मोतीलाल नेहरू और एन. सी. केलकर के सहयोग से ‘स्वराज्य पार्टी’ की स्थापना की, जिसका उद्देश्य था कि धारासभाओं में प्रवेश किया जाए और आयरलैण्ड के देशभक्त पार्नेल की कार्यनीति अपनाते हुए वर्ष 1919 ई. के भारतीय शासन विधान में सुधार करने अथवा उसे नष्ट करने का प्रयत्न किया जाए. जिसके बाद बंगाल और बम्बई की धारासभाओं में तो यह इतनी शक्तिशाली हो गई कि वहाँ द्वैध शासन प्रणाली के अंतर्गत मंत्रिमंडल तक का बनना कठिन हो गया था.
- राजनीतिज्ञ फ़िरोजशाह मेहता: – आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1915 में राजनीतिज्ञ तथा बंबई नगरपालिका के संविधान (चार्टर) के निर्माता फ़िरोजशाह मेहता का निधन हुआ था.
- स्वतंत्रता सेनानी बनारसी दास गुप्ता: – आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1917 में स्वतंत्रता सेनानी और हरियाणा के भूतपूर्व मुख्यमंत्री बनारसी दास गुप्ता का जन्म हरियाणा के भिवानी नामक स्थान पर हुआ था. उन्होंने ‘बिड़ला कॉलेज’, पिलानी में शिक्षा प्राप्त की थी. बनारसी दास गुप्ता जी की गतिविधियां देखकर जींद रियासत में उन्हें वर्ष 1941 ई. में गिरफ्तार कर फरीदकोट जेल में बंद कर दिया था. बनारसी दास गुप्ता ने ‘भारत छोड़ो आंदोलन’ में भी भाग लिया और 1942- 44 ई. तक जेल में बंद रहे थे. आज़ादी के पश्चात् ही बनारसी दास ने जींद को भारत में शामिल करने के लिए आंदोलन प्रारम्भ कर दिये थे और वहां समानंतर सरकार बनाई थी. वर्ष 1968 के मध्यावधि चुनावों में भिवानी विधानसभा क्षेत्र से निर्वाचित हुए थे. वर्ष 1972 में फिर से विधायक बने एवं सर्वसम्मति से विधान सभा के अध्यक्ष चुने गए थे. वर्ष 1975 में इन्हें हरियाणा का मुख्यमंत्री बनाया गया था.
- इंडियन रेडक्रॉस सोसायटी की स्थापना: – आज के दिन वर्ष 1920 में इंडियन रेडक्रॉस सोसायटी की स्थापना हुई थी. बताते चलें कि, इंडियन रेडक्रॉस सोसायटी अनुच्छेद 1920 अभियान के मुख्य बिंदु: यह एक आत्मनिर्भर तथा प्रभावशाली संस्था है जिसका उद्देश्य जरूरतमंद लोगों की सहायता व मदद करना तथा मानव पीड़ा को कम करने का प्रयास करना है.
- साहित्यकार उदयराज सिंह: – आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1921 में साहित्यकार उदयराज सिंह का जन्म सूर्यपुरा (रोहतास) राजवंश में हुआ था. उदयराज सिंह इलाहाबाद विश्वविद्यालय के छात्र थे. उन्होंने अपने छात्र जीवन से ही ‘विकास’ और ‘सौरभ’ नामक हस्तलिखित पत्रिका का संपादन किया था. स्वतंत्रता प्राप्ति के बाद उदयराजसिंह ने अशोक प्रेस की स्थापना कर ‘नई धारा’ पत्रिका का संचालन प्रकाशन करने लगे. बताते चलें कि, उदयराज सिंह की स्मृति में प्रतिवर्ष उदयराज सिंह स्मृति पुरस्कार से साहित्यकारों को सम्मानित किया जाता है.
