- इस्लामिक नेता सर सैयद अहमद खां: – आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1817 में अलीगढ़ ओरिएंटल कॉलेज के संस्थापक सर सैयद अहमद खां का जन्म दिल्ली के सादात (सैयद) ख़ानदान में हुआ था. सर सैयद अहमद ख़ाँ ने लोगों को पारंपरिक शिक्षा के स्थान पर आधुनिक ज्ञान हासिल करने के लिए प्रेरित किया, क्योंकि वह जानते थे कि आधुनिक शिक्षा के बिना प्रगति संभव नहीं है.
- कलकत्ता बंदरगाह: – आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1870 में कलकत्ता बंदरगाह को एक संवैधानिक निकाय प्रबंधन के तहत लाया गया था.
- प्रथम वित्त मंत्री आर. के. शनमुखम चेट्टी: – आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1892 में स्वतंत्र भारत के प्रथम वित्त मंत्री आर. के. शनमुखम चेट्टी का जन्म कोयंबटूर (तमिलनाडु ) में हुआ था. वर्ष 1919 में उन्होंने मद्रास से कानून की डिग्री लेकर वकालत शुरू कर दी थी. शनमुखम चेट्टी के जीवन में रामायण, महाभारत… आदि पौराणिक ग्रंथों का काफी प्रभाव था. उस वक्त के कई क्रांतकारियों व स्वतन्त्रता सेनानियों के विचारों से काफी प्रभावित थे. शनमुखम औपनिवेशिक स्वराज्य के समर्थक थे और असहयोग आंदोलन के स्थान पर संवैधानिक उपायों से इसे प्राप्त करने के पक्षधर थे. शनमुखम चेट्टी वर्ष 1920-22 तक मद्रास असेंबली वर्ष 1930-34 तक वे केंद्रीय असेंबली के सदस्य थे. वर्ष 1947 में शनमुखम चेट्टी को देश के प्रथम वित्त मंत्री बने थे और उनका कार्यकाल वर्ष 1949 तक रहा था उसके बाद विवादों के कारण उन्होंने अपने पद से इस्तीफा दे दिया था. वर्ष 1951-52 में वे अन्नामलाई विश्वविद्यालय के कुलपति भी रहे थे.
- स्वामी रामतीर्थ: – आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1906 में स्वामी रामतीर्थ का निधन गंगा स्नान के दौरान हुई थी.
- उपन्यासकार शिवानी: – आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1923 में उपन्यासकार शिवानी का जन्म विजयादशमी के दिन राजकोट (गुजरात) में हुआ था. उनके पिता का नाम अश्विनीकुमार पाण्डे है जो कि राजकुमार कॉलेज (राजकोट ) के प्रिंसिपल थे. ज्ञात है कि, शिवानी के माता और पिता दोनों ही विद्वान संगीत प्रेमी और कई भाषाओं के ज्ञाता थे. बताते चलें कि, शिवानी के पितामह (दादाजी) संस्कृत के प्रकांड विद्वान और बनारस हिन्दू विश्वविद्यालय में धर्मोपदेशक थे. शिवानी को भी साहित्य और संगीत के प्रति एक गहरा रुझान था और उन्होंने शांति निकेतन ( पश्चिम बंगाल) से बी.ए. किया था. महज 12 वर्ष की उम्र में उनकी पहली रचना ‘नटखट’ नामक एक बाल पत्रिका में छपी थी. वर्ष 1951 में शिवानी की एक और रचना ‘धर्मयुग’ में छपी थी. इसके बाद आई उनकी कहानी ‘लाल हवेली’ और तब से जो लेखन-क्रम शुरू हुआ, उनके जीवन के अन्तिम दिनों तक चलता रहा.
- साहित्यकार चंद्रशेखर रथ: – आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1929 में उड़ीया भाषा के साहित्यकार चंद्रशेखर रथ का जन्म मालपड़ा (बलांगीर) उडीसा में हुआ था. रथ ने अपने लेखन काल के अंतर्गत कई उपन्यास, लघु कथाएँ, निबंध और कविताएं लिखी हैं. साहित्य के क्षेत्र में उनके अमूल्य योगदान के लिए रथ को कई पुरस्कारों से सम्मनित भी किया गया है.
- साहित्यकार दूधनाथ सिंह: – आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1936 में साहित्यकार दूधनाथ सिंह का जन्म सोबंथा (बलिया), उत्तर प्रदेश में हुआ था. उन्होंने इलाहाबाद विश्वविद्यालय से हिंदी साहित्य में एम. ए. किया। उसके बाद उन्होंने इलाहाबाद विश्वविद्यालय के हिन्दी विभाग में अपनी सेवाएँ भी दी. उन्होंने कविता, कहानी, नाटक, उपन्यास और आलोचना सहित सभी विधाओं में भी लेखन किया था.
- अभिनेत्री स्मिता पाटिल: – आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1955 में अभिनेत्री स्मिता पाटिल का जन्म पुणे, महाराष्ट्र में हुआ था. उनके पिता का नाम शिवाजीराय पाटिल था जो कि महाराष्ट्र सरकार में मंत्री थे, जबकि उनकी माँ समाज सेविका थी. स्मिता की प्रारम्भिक शिक्षा पुणे, महाराष्ट्र में ही हुई थी. उन्होंने ‘फ़िल्म एण्ड टेलीविजन इंस्टीट्यूट ऑफ़ इंडिया’, पुणे से स्नातक की उपाधि प्राप्त की थी. बताते चलें कि, कॉलेज की पढ़ाई पूरी करने के बाद स्मिता ने मराठी टेलीविजन में बतौर समाचार वाचिका का भी काम किया था. स्मिता पाटिल ने अपने अभिनय कैरियर की शुरुआत वर्ष 1975 में फिल्म ‘चरणदास चोर’ से शुरू की थी. वर्ष 1977 में स्मिता पाटिल के सिने कैरियर का अहम पड़ाव साबित हुआ था. दुग्ध क्रांति पर बनी फ़िल्म ‘मंथन’ में स्मिता पाटिल के अभिनय के नए रंग दर्शकों को देखने को मिले थे. वर्ष 1985 में स्मिता पाटिल की फ़िल्म ‘मिर्च-मसाला’ में उनके सशक्त अभिनय को आज भी याद किया जाता है.
- क्रिकेट खिलाड़ी अनिल कुंबले: – आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1970 में क्रिकेट खिलाड़ी अनिल कुंबले का जन्म बेंगलोर, भारत में हुआ था. उनके पिता का नाम कृष्णा स्वामी और माँ का नाम सरोजा था. वर्ष 1992 में कुंबले ने राष्ट्रीय विद्यालय कॉलेज ऑफ इंजीनियरिंग से मैकेनिकल इंजीनियरिंग की डिग्री ली. वर्ष 1989 में कर्नाटक की तरफ से कुंबले ने अपना फस्ट क्लास डेब्यू हैदराबाद के ख़िलाफ़ किया था जिसमें उन्होंने चार विकेट लिए थे. इसी प्रदर्शन के आधार पर कुंबले को पाकिस्तान के ख़िलाफ़ अंडर 19 टीम में चुना गया था. वर्ष 1990 में कुंबले ने अंतरराष्ट्रीय क्रिकेट में श्रीलंका के ख़िलाफ़ वनडे खेला. उसके बाद उसी वर्ष इंग्लैड के ख़िलाफ़ पहला टेस्ट मैच भी खेला था. निल कुंबले ने 132 टेस्ट मैच की 236 पारियों में 619 विकेट लेकर टीम इंडिया के सबसे सफल गेंदबाज बने.
- पंजाब के वर्तमान मुख्यमंत्री भगवंत मान: – आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1973 में पंजाब के वर्तमान मुख्यमंत्री भगवंत मान का जन्म पंजाब के संगरूर जिले के सतौज गांव में हुआ था. भगवंत की प्रथमिक शिक्षा चीमा गांव के सरकारी स्कूल से प्राप्त की थी. वर्ष 2011 में भगवंत मान ने राजनीति में एंट्री की थी. वर्ष 2014 में भगवंत पंजाब के संगरूर निर्वाचन क्षेत्र से लोकसभा सदस्य हैं. वर्ष 2019 में आम चुनावों में मान को संगरूर से लगातार दूसरी बार जीत मिली. वह लोकसभा में आम आदमी पार्टी के एकमात्र सांसद थे. वर्तमान समय में भगवंत मान पंजाब के मुख्यमंत्री हैं.

- Islamic leader Sir Syed Ahmed Khan: – On this day in the year 1817, Sir Syed Ahmed Khan, the founder of Aligarh Oriental College, was born in the Saadat (Syed) family of Delhi. Sir Syed Ahmed Khan inspired people to acquire modern knowledge instead of traditional education because he knew that progress is not possible without modern education.

- First Finance Minister R. Of. Shanmukham Chetty: – On this day in the year 1892, the first Finance Minister of independent India, R. Of. Shanmukham Chetty was born in Coimbatore (Tamil Nadu). In the year 1919, he started practising law after taking a law degree from Madras. The mythological texts like Ramayana, Mahabharata etc. had a lot of influence in the life of Shanmukham Chetty. He was greatly influenced by the thoughts of many revolutionaries and freedom fighters of that time. Shanmukham was a supporter of colonial self-rule and was in favour of achieving it through constitutional means instead of a non-cooperation movement. Shanmukham Chetty was a member of the Central Assembly from 1920-22 and Madras Assembly from 1930-34. In the year 1947, Shanmukham Chetty became the first Finance Minister of the country and his tenure lasted till the year 1949, after which he resigned from his post due to controversies. He was also the Vice Chancellor of Annamalai University in the year 1951-52.
