- गोलकुंडा किले पर क़ब्जा: – आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1687 में औरंगजेब ने हैदराबाद के गोलकुंडा के किले पर कब्जा कर लिया था उस समय गोलकुंडा का शासक अबुल हसन कुतुब शाह हुआ करते थे.
- साहित्यकार श्रद्धाराम शर्मा: – आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1837 में “ओम जय जगदीश हरे” के रचयिता श्रद्धाराम शर्मा का जन्म पंजाब के जालंधर ज़िले में लुधियाना के पास एक गाँव ‘फ़िल्लौरी’ (फुल्लौर) के एक ब्राह्मण परिवार में हुआ था. उनके पिता का नाम जयदयालु था जो एक ज्योतिषी और धार्मिक प्रवृत्ति के थे. श्रद्धाराम को बचपन से ही धार्मिक संस्कार विरासत में मिला था. श्रद्धाराम जब केवल सात वर्ष के थे उस वक्त उन्होंने गुरुमुखी लिपि सीख ली थी. दस वर्ष की अवस्था में उन्होंने संस्कृत, हिन्दी, फ़ारसी, पर्शियन (पारसी) तथा ज्योतिष आदि की पढ़ाई शुरू की और कुछ ही वर्षों में महारत हासिल कर ली थी. उन्नीसवीं शताब्दी के श्रेष्ठ साहित्यकारों में श्रद्धाराम शर्मा की गिनती होती थी. श्रद्धाराम शर्मा की पहली ही पुस्तक ‘सिखों दे राज दी विधियाँ’ से वे पंजाबी साहित्य के पितृ पुरुष के रूप में प्रतिष्ठित हो गए थे साथ ही उनको “आधुनिक पंजाबी भाषा के जनक” की भी उपाधि मिली थी. पंडित श्रद्धाराम का गुरुमुखी और हिन्दी साहित्य में महत्त्वपूर्ण योगदान रहा है. उन्होंने 32 वर्ष की उम्र में ‘ओम जय जगदीश हरे’ आरती की रचना की थी साथ ही खुद उनको गए कर सुनते भी थे. जिसे सुनकर लोग बेसुध हो जाते थे. बताते चलें कि, पंडित श्रद्धाराम शर्मा को भारत के प्रथम उपन्यासकार के रूप में भी जाना जाता है.
- साहित्यकार गुरुजाडा अप्पाराव: – आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1861 में तेलुगु साहित्यकार गुरुजाडा अप्पाराव का जन्म आन्ध्र प्रदेश के विशाखापत्तनम क्षेत्र में हुआ था. उनके पिता का नाम वेंकटरामदास है जो वेदान्त तथा ज्योतिष के ज्ञाता थे. अप्पाराव की प्रारम्भिक शिक्षा घर पर ही हुई थी. उन्होंने जाति भेद , वर्ण भेद, आदि का हमेशा ही विरोध करते थे साथ ही उन्हें धर्म के ब्रह्माचार और मूर्ति पूजा में भी उनका विश्वास नहीं था. उन्होंने कई पुस्तके लिखी जिनमें वर्ष 892 में लिखा गया ‘कन्याशुलकम्’ सबसे लोकप्रिय है.
- अभिनेता मदन पुरी: – आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1915 में अभिनेता मदन पुरी का जन्म पठाणकोट में हुआ था. उनके पिता का नाम निहाल चंद पुरी और माता का नाम वेद कौर था. उनके भाई का नाम अमरीश पुरी है. मदन पूरी ने अपने अभिनय कैरियर की शुरुआत हीरो बनने से की थी लेकिन उनकी सभी फ़िल्में पिट गई. जब उन्होंने विलेन के रोल किये तो उन्हें सफलता मिली थी. मदन पूरी ने अपने ५० साल के कैरियर में करीब 430 से भी ज्यादा फिल्मों में काम किया था.
- निर्माता एवं निर्देशक ऋषिकेश मुखर्जी:- आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1922 में निर्माता एवं निर्देशक ऋषिकेश मुखर्जी का जन्म कोलकाता में हुआ था. ऋषिकेश मुखर्जी ने अपने फ़िल्मी कैरियर की शुरुआत वर्ष 1951 में फिल्म “दो बीघा ज़मीन” फ़िल्म में बिमल राय के सहायक के रूप में किया था. ऋषिकेश ने अपने निर्देशन के कैरियर की शुरुआत वर्ष 1957 में फिल्म “मुसाफिर” से की थी. वर्ष 1961 में ऋषिकेश मुखर्जी की फ़िल्म “अनुराधा” को राष्ट्रीय फ़िल्म पुरस्कार से सम्मानित किया गया था.
- स्वतंत्रता सेनानी रामानन्द चैटर्जी: – आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1943 में स्वतंत्रता सेनानी रामानन्द चैटर्जी का निधन कोलकत्ता में हुआ था.
- पार्श्व गायक शान: – आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1962 में पार्श्व गायक शान का जन्म मध्य प्रदेश के खंडवा में एक संगीतज्ञ परिवार में हुआ था. शान का पूरा नाम शांतनु मुखर्जी है. उनके पिता का नाम मानस मुखर्जी है जो एक एक संगीत निर्देशक थे वहीँ उनके दादा जाहर मुखर्जी भी एक संगीतकार थे. शान की बहन सागरिका भी पार्श्व गायिका हैं. शान ने अपने बचपन में ही ऐड की जिंगल्स बनाना शुरू कर कर दिए थे. शान हिंदी गानों के अलावा कन्नड़, तमिल, बंगाली, पंजाबी, मराठी, उर्दू तेलगु में भी पार्श्व गायन करते हैं. शान ने अपने पर्श्वगायकी के कैरियर की शुरुआत आरडी बर्मन के गाने ‘रूप तेरा मस्ताना.. ’का रीमिक्स गाने से की थी.
- अभिनेत्री दीपती भटनागर: – आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1967 में अभिनेत्री दीपती भटनागर का जन्म मेरठ में हुआ था. दीप्ति वर्ष1990 में मिस इंडिया भी बनी थीं. दीपती भटनागर ने अपने अभिनय कैरियर की शुरुआत ‘राम शस्त्र’ से की थी.
- खिलाड़ी दीपा मलिक:- आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1970 में भारत की शॉटपुट एवं जेवलिन थ्रो की खिलाड़ी दीपा मलिक का जन्म भैंसवाल, सोनीपत, हरियाणा में हुआ था.

- Capture of Golconda Fort: – On this day in the year 1687, Aurangzeb captured the Golconda Fort of Hyderabad. At that time, the ruler of Golconda was Abul Hasan Qutb Shah.
- Litterateur Shraddharam Sharma: – On this day in the year 1837, Shraddharam Sharma, the author of “Om Jai Jagdish Hare”, was born in a Brahmin family of ‘Phillauri’ (Phullaur), a village near Ludhiana in Jalandhar district of Punjab. His father’s name was Jaydayalu he was an astrologer and religious person. Shraddharam had inherited religious values since childhood. When Shraddharam was only seven years old, he learned the Gurmukhi script. At the age of ten, he started studying Sanskrit, Hindi, Persian, Persian astrology etc. and mastered it within a few years. Shraddharam Sharma was counted among the best litterateurs of the nineteenth century. With Shraddharam Sharma’s very first book ‘Sikhon De Raj Di Vithiya’, he became established as the patriarch of Punjabi literature and also got the title of “Father of Modern Punjabi Language”. Pandit Shraddharam has made a significant contribution to Gurmukhi and Hindi literature. At the age of 32, he composed ‘Om Jai Jagdish Hare’ Aarti and also used to listen to it himself. People used to become unconscious after hearing this. Let us tell you that Pandit Shraddharam Sharma is also known as the first novelist of India.
