- छत्रपति शाहूजी महाराज:- आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1682 में छत्रपति शाहूजी महाराज का जन्म गांगुली गांव में हुआ था. शाहूजी महाराज छत्रपति शिवाजी का पौत्र तथा शम्भुजी और येसूबाई के पुत्र थे.शाहू, जिसे ‘शिवाजी द्वितीय’ के नाम से भी जाना जाता है.बादशाह औरंगज़ेब ने ‘शिवाजी द्वितीय’ (शाहू) को ‘साधु’ कहना शुरू किया था, इसी से उसका नाम शाहू हो गया. शाहू ने पेशवा बालाजी विश्वनाथ की सहायता से मराठा साम्राज्य को एक नवीन शक्ति के रूप में संघटित किया था. वर्ष 1689 में रायगढ़ महाराष्ट्र के पतन के बाद शाहू, उसकी माँ येसूबाई एवं अन्य महत्त्वपूर्ण मराठा लोगों को क़ैद कर औरंगज़ेब के शिविर में नज़रबन्द कर दिया गया.शाहू उस समय बालक ही थे फिर भी उन्हें बन्दी बनाकर मुग़ल दरबार में लाया गया.वर्ष 1707 में औरंगज़ेब की मृत्यु के उपरान्त सम्राट बहादुर शाह प्रथम ने उसे मुक्त कर दिया. उसके बाद वापस वापस महाराष्ट्र आ गए और वहां पर परसोजी भोंसले (रघुजी भोंसले तृतीय), भावी पेशवा बालाजी विश्वनाथ और रणोजी सिन्धिया ने उसका साथ दिया. तब शाहू ने अपनी चाची के विरुद्ध युद्ध की घोषणा की और अंतत: वर्ष 1708 में उनका राज्याभिषेक हुआ.
- वकील, राजनीतिज्ञ और संविधान सभा के सदस्य राम लिंगम चेट्टियार:- आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1881 में वकील, राजनीतिज्ञ और संविधान सभा के सदस्य राम लिंगम चेट्टियार का जन्म कोयंबटूर (तमिलनाडु) में हुआ था.इनके पिता अंगप्पा चेट्टियार प्रसिद्ध व्यापारी और बैंकर थे. वे मद्रास विश्वविद्यालय से वर्ष 1904 में कानून की डिग्री लेकर वकालत करने लगे और बाद में उन्होंने राजनीति में भी भाग लेना आरम्भ कर दिया. वर्ष 1921 में मद्रास लेजिस्लेटिव कॉउंसिल के सदस्य चुन लिए गए और वर्ष 1939 तक वे लगातार इसके सदस्य भी रहे. वर्ष 1946 में रामलिंगम संविधान सभा के सदस्य निर्वाचित हुए और वर्ष 1951 में वे निर्विरोध प्रथम लोकसभा के सदस्य चुने गए. संविधान सभा में इन्होंने हिंदी को राजभाषा के रूप में स्वीकार किए जाने का कड़ा विरोध किया था.
- पहली भारतीय फीचर फिल्म श्रीपुंडालिक:- आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1912 में पहली भारतीय फीचर फिल्म श्रीपुंडालिक कोरोनेशन सिनेमैटोग्राफ, मुम्बई के गिरगाँव में रिलीज़ हुई थी. इसे पहली फीचर-लेंथ भारतीय फ़िल्म के रूप में मान्यता प्राप्त है. इस फिल्म को दादासाहेब तोरने उर्फ रामा चंद्र गोपाल द्वारा निर्मित और निर्देशित थी.
- भारतीय रिज़र्व बैंक के दसवें गवर्नर एस. जगन्नाथन:- आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1914 में भारतीय रिज़र्व बैंक के दसवें गवर्नर एस. जगन्नाथन का जन्म हुआ था.इनका पूरा नाम सरूकाई जगन्नाथन था.इन्होंने प्रेसीडेंसी कॉलेज( मद्रास) में शिक्षा प्राप्त की थी. जगन्नाथन भारतीय सिविल सेवा के सदस्य थे. इन्होने भारत में पहली बार 20 रुपये और 50 रुपये के भारतीय रुपयों के नोट पेश किए गए थे और इस पर जगन्नाथन ने अपने हस्ताक्षर किए थे.
- 12वें प्रधानमंत्री एचडी देवगौड़ा:- आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1933 में भारत के 12वें प्रधानमंत्री एचडी देवगौड़ा का जन्म हॉलनसारिपीली तालुक के एक गांव जो कि मैसूर के पूर्व साम्राज्य (अब हसन, कर्नाटक में) का एक वोक्कालिगा जाति परिवार(भारत सरकार द्वारा अन्य पिछड़ा वर्ग के रूप में वर्गीकृत किया गया है) में हुआ था. उनके पिता का नाम दोडे गौड़ा( जो एक किसान थे) और माता का नाम देवम्मा था.
- वनस्पति विज्ञानी पंचानन माहेश्वरी:- आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1966 में भारत के सुप्रसिद्ध वनस्पति विज्ञानी पंचानन माहेश्वरी का निधन दिल्ली में हुआ था.
- पहले भूमिगत परमाणु बम परीक्षण:- आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1974 में पोख़रण (राजस्थान) में अपने पहले भूमिगत परमाणु बम परीक्षण के साथ भारत विश्व में छठा परमाणु शक्ति संपन्न देश बना. इस परीक्षण का नाम ‘स्माइलिंग बुद्धा’ दिया गया था.
- पार्श्वगायक नितिन मुकेश:- आज ही के दिन वर्ष 2008 में मध्य प्रदेश सरकार ने पार्श्वगायक नितिन मुकेश को राष्ट्रीय लता मंगेशकर अलंकरण से सम्मानित किया था.
- लेखक इन्द्रा सिन्हा:- आज ही के दिन वर्ष 2008 को भारतीय मूल के लेखक इन्द्रा सिन्हा को उनकी किताब एनिमल पीपुल हेतु कामनवेल्थ सम्मान प्रदान किया गया.
- धार्मिक गुरु जय गुरुदेव:- आज ही के दिन वर्ष 2012 में प्रसिद्ध धार्मिक गुरु जय गुरुदेव का निधन 116 वर्ष की उम्र में मथुरा में हुआ था.
- अभिनेत्री रीमा लागू:- आज ही के दिन वर्ष 2017 हिन्दी फ़िल्मों की अभिनेत्री रीमा लागू का निधन मुंबई में कोकिलाबेन धीरूभाई अंबानी अस्पताल में दिल का दौरा पड़ने से हुआ था.

- Chhatrapati Shahuji Maharaj: – On this day in the year 1682, Chhatrapati Shahuji Maharaj was born in Ganguli village. Shahuji Maharaj was the grandson of Chhatrapati Shivaji and the son of Shambhuji and Yesubai. Shahu, also known as ‘Shivaji II’. Emperor Aurangzeb started calling ‘Shivaji II’ (Shahu) ‘Sadhu’, hence His name became Shahu. Shahu organized the Maratha Empire as a new power with the help of Peshwa Balaji Vishwanath. After the fall of Raigarh Maharashtra in 1689, Shahu, his mother Yesubai, and other important Maratha people were imprisoned and interned in Aurangzeb’s camp. Shahu was still a child at that time and was taken captive by the Mughal court. In the year 1707 After the death of Aurangzeb, Emperor Bahadur Shah I freed him. After that, he came back to Maharashtra and there Parsoji Bhonsle (Raghuji Bhonsle III), future Peshwa Balaji Vishwanath, and Ranoji Scindia supported him. Then Shahu declared war against his aunt and finally, he was coronated in the year 1708.
- Lawyer, politician, and member of Constituent Assembly Ram Lingam Chettiar:- On this day in the year 1881, lawyer, politician, and member of Constituent Assembly Ram Lingam Chettiar was born in Coimbatore (Tamil Nadu). His father Angappa Chettiar was a famous businessman and a banker. He started advocating after taking a law degree from Madras University in the year 1904 and later he started participating in politics as well. In the year 1921, the members of the Madras Legislative Council were elected and till the year 1939, they were also its members continuously. Ramalingam was elected a member of the Constituent Assembly in the year 1946 and in the year 1951, he was elected unopposed to the first Lok Sabha. In the Constituent Assembly, he strongly opposed the acceptance of Hindi as the official language.
- First Indian feature film Shri Pundalik:- On this day in the year 1912, the first Indian feature film Shri Pundalik was released at Coronation Cinematograph, Girgaon, Mumbai. It is recognized as the first feature-length Indian film. The film was produced and directed by Dadasaheb Torne aka Rama Chandra Gopal.
- Tenth Governor of Reserve Bank of India S. Jagannathan:- On this day in the year 1914, the tenth Governor of the Reserve Bank of India, S. Jagannathan was born. His full name was Sarukai Jagannathan. He was educated at Presidency College (Madras). Jagannathan was a member of the Indian Civil Service. For the first time in India, Indian rupee notes of 20 rupees and 50 rupees were introduced and Jagannathan had put his signature on it.
- 12th Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda:- On this day in the year 1933, HD Deve Gowda, the 12th Prime Minister of India, was born in a Vokkaliga caste family of the former Kingdom of Mysore (now in Hassan, Karnataka) in a village in Hallansaripilly taluk (by the Government of India classified as Other Backward Classes). His father’s name was Dode Gowda (who was a farmer) and his mother’s name was Devamma.
