पौष पूर्णिमा हिंदू पंचांग के अनुसार पौष मास की पूर्णिमा को कहते हैं. यह दिन धार्मिक, खगोलीय और आध्यात्मिक दृष्टि से अत्यंत महत्वपूर्ण माना जाता है. इस दिन पवित्र नदियों, जलाशयों और तीर्थ स्थलों पर स्नान और दान का विशेष महत्व होता है. इसके बाद ‘माघ’ महीने की आगमन होता है.
पौष माह सूर्य देव का महीना माना जाता है.पौष माह का पूर्णिमा खगोलीय व धार्मिक दृष्टि से अत्यंत महत्वपूर्ण है. इस दिन सूर्य और चंद्रमा का अद्भुत संयोग होता है जो मानसिक शांति और तेज प्रदान करता है. इस पूर्णिमा को मुक्ति और आत्म-शुद्धि का संगम भी माना जाता है. आज के दिन चंद्रमा अपनी पूर्ण कलाओं के साथ होता है.
पौष माह की पूर्णिमा के ही दिन से उत्तर प्रदेश के प्रयागराज (संगम) में सुप्रसिद्ध माघ मेले की शुरुआत होती है. साधक एक महीने के ‘कल्पवास’ का संकल्प लेते हैं और गंगा किनारे कुटिया बनाकर रहते हैं और दिन में तीन बार स्नान व भजन-कीर्तन करते हुए सात्विक जीवन जीते हैं.
पौष पूर्णिमा को ‘शाकंभरी पूर्णिमा’ भी कहा जाता है. आज के दिन माता दुर्गा ने ‘शाकंभरी’ का अवतार लेकर धरती पर अकाल को समाप्त किया था. पौष पूर्णिमा के दिन सूर्योदय से पूर्व पवित्र नदी या जलकुंड में स्नान कर पितरों की शांति के लिए जल अर्पित करना चाहिए. शाम के समय मंदिर या नदी के किनारे दीपक अवश्य जलाना चाहिए.

The famous Magh Mela in Prayagraj (Sangam), Uttar Pradesh, begins on the day of Paush Purnima. Devotees take a vow of ‘Kalpavas’ for a month, setting up huts on the banks of the Ganges, and living a sattvic life, bathing three times a day and engaging in devotional singing and chanting.
Paush Purnima is also known as ‘Shakambhari Purnima’. On this day, Goddess Durga is believed to have taken the avatar of ‘Shakambhari’ to end the famine on earth. On Paush Purnima, one should bathe in a holy river or water body before sunrise and offer water to the ancestors for their peace. In the evening, one should light a lamp at a temple or on the riverbank.
