सत्संग के दौरान एक भक्त ने महाराज जी से पूछा कि, महाराज जी ऐसा कोई उपाय बताइए की जिससे स्वयं के पापों का नाश हो, साथ ही परिवार और कुल का भी उद्धार हो जाय? वाल व्यास सुमन जी महाराज कहते है कि, एक बार धर्मराज युधिष्ठिर ने भी भगवान वासुदेव से यही सवाल किया था, तब कमलनयन श्यामसुन्दर ने कहा कि, हे युधिष्ठिर! पापों का नाश करने वाली इस एकादशी का नाम पापांकुशा एकादशी है, जो आश्विन शुक्ल एकादशी को मनाया जाता है. हे राजन! इस दिन मनुष्य को विधिपूर्वक भगवान पद्मनाभ की पूजा करनी चाहिए, चुकीं यह एकादशी मनुष्य को मनवांछित फल देकर स्वर्ग को प्राप्त कराने वाली है.
मनुष्यों को बहुत दिनों तक कठोर तपस्या से जो फल मिलता है, वह फल भगवान गरुड़ध्वज को नमस्कार करने से ही प्राप्त हो जाता है. जो मनुष्य अज्ञानवश अनेकों पाप करते हैं लेकिन, हरि को भी प्रणाम करते हैं, वे नरक में नहीं जाते हैं. भगवान विष्णु के नाम का कीर्तन मात्र से ही संसार के सभी तीर्थों के पुण्य का फल मिल जाता है, जो मनुष्य शार्ङ्ग धनुषधारी भगवान विष्णु की शरण में जाते हैं, उन्हें कभी भी यमराज की यातना भोगनी नहीं पड़ती है. जो मनुष्य वैष्णव होकर शिव की और शैव होकर विष्णु की निंदा करते हैं, वे अवश्य ही नरकवासी होते हैं. सहस्रों वाजपेय और अश्वमेध यज्ञों से जो फल प्राप्त होता है, वह एकादशी व्रत के सोलहवें भाग के बराबर भी नहीं होता है. संसार में एकादशी के बराबर और कोई भी पुण्य नहीं, न इसके बराबर पवित्र तीनों लोकों में और कुछ भी नहीं है, उसी प्रकार इस एकादशी के बराबर और कोई व्रत नहीं है. जब तक मनुष्य भगवान पद्मनाभ के एकादशी का व्रत नहीं करते हैं, तभी तक उनकी देह में पाप वास करता है.
हे राजेन्द्र ! यह एकादशी स्वर्ग, मोक्ष, आरोग्यता, सुंदर स्त्री, अन्न और धन की देने वाली है. इस एकादशी के व्रत के बराबर गंगा, गया, काशी, कुरुक्षेत्र और पुष्कर भी पुण्यवान नहीं हैं. हरिवासर तथा एकादशी का व्रत करने और जागरण करने से सहज ही में मनुष्य विष्णु पद को प्राप्त होता है, साथ ही हे राजन ! इस व्रत के करने वाले दस पीढ़ी मातृ पक्ष, दस पीढ़ी पितृ पक्ष, दस पीढ़ी स्त्री पक्ष तथा दस पीढ़ी मित्र पक्ष का उद्धार कर देते हैं, और वे दिव्य देह धारण कर चतुर्भुज रूप में, पीतांबर पहने और हाथ में माला लेकर गरुड़ पर चढ़कर विष्णुलोक को जाते हैं. हे नृपोत्तम ! बाल्यावस्था, युवावस्था और वृद्धावस्था में इस व्रत को करने से पापी मनुष्य भी दुर्गति को प्राप्त न होकर सद्गति को प्राप्त होता है. आश्विन मास की शुक्ल पक्ष की इस पापांकुशा एकादशी का व्रत जो मनुष्य करते हैं, वे अंत समय में हरिलोक को प्राप्त होते हैं तथा समस्त पापों से मुक्त हो जाते हैं. जिस प्रकार सोना, तिल, भूमि, गौ, अन्न, जल, छतरी तथा जूती दान करने से मनुष्य यमराज को नहीं देखता.
व्रत विधि: –
सबसे पहले आपको एकादशी के दिन सुबह उठ कर स्नान करना चाहिए और व्रत का संकल्प लेना चाहिए. उसके बाद भगवान विष्णु की मूर्ति या चित्र की स्थापना की जाती है. उसके बाद भगवान विष्णु की पूजा के लिए धूप, दीप, नारियल और पुष्प का प्रयोग करना चाहिए. अंत में भगवान विष्णु के स्वरूप का स्मरण करते हुए ध्यान लगायें, उसके बाद विष्णु सहस्त्रनाम का पाठ करके, कथा पढ़ते हुए विधिपूर्वक पूजन करें.
ध्यान दें…. एकादशी की रात्री को जागरण अवश्य ही करना चाहिए, दुसरे दिन द्वादशी के दिन सुबह ब्राह्मणो को अन्न दान व दक्षिणा देकर इस व्रत को संपन्न करना चाहिए.
व्रत कथा: –
प्राचीन काल में विन्ध्यपर्वत पर क्रोधन नामक एक महाक्रुर बहेलिया रहता था, उसने अपनी सारी जिन्दगी हिंसा, लुट-पाट, मद्यपान, और मिथ्या भाषण में व्यतीत कर दिया. जीवन के अंत समय जब आया तो यमराज ने यमदूतों को आदेश किया कि क्रोधन को लें आयें. यमदूतों ने समय से पूर्व आकर बता दिया कि, कल तेरा अंतिम दिन है तब, क्रोधन मृत्यु से भयभीत दौड़ता-भागता महर्षि अंगीरा के आश्रम पहुंचकर उनके चरणों में लोट गया और उसके अनुनय-विनय करने से महर्षि ने प्रसन्न होकर कहा कि, आश्विन शुक्ल पक्ष एकादशी के व्रत को विधिपूर्वक करने को कहा. व्याध ने भी पापाकुंशा एकादशी का विधि पूर्वक व्रत-पूजन कर भगवान के आशीर्वाद से विष्णु लोक को गया, और यमदूत हाथ मलते रह गये और बिना क्रोधं के ही वापस यमलोक लौट गये.
एकादशी का फल: –
एकादशी प्राणियों के परम लक्ष्य, भगवद भक्ति, को प्राप्त करने में सहायक होती है. यह दिन प्रभु की पूर्ण श्रद्धा से सेवा करने के लिए अति शुभकारी एवं फलदायक माना गया है. इस दिन व्यक्ति इच्छाओं से मुक्त हो कर यदि शुद्ध मन से भगवान की भक्तिमयी सेवा करता है तो वह अवश्य ही प्रभु की कृपापात्र बनता है.

Papankusha Ekadashi…
During the Satsang, a devotee asked Maharaj Ji, Maharaj Ji, please tell me a way by which one’s sins are destroyed, and the family and clan are also saved. Val Vyas Suman Ji Maharaj says that once Dharmaraj Yudhishthira also asked the same question to Lord Vasudev, then Kamalnayan Shyamsundar said, O Yudhishthira! The name of this Ekadashi that destroys sins is Papankusha Ekadashi, which is celebrated on Ashwin Shukla Ekadashi. O King! On this day, man should properly worship Lord Padmanabh, since this Ekadashi gives the desired fruit to man and helps him attain heaven.
The fruit that humans get by doing rigorous penance for many days, that fruit can be obtained only by saluting Lord Garudadhwaj. Those people, who commit many sins due to ignorance, but also bow down to Hari, do not go to hell. Just by chanting the name of Lord Vishnu, one gets the fruits of the virtues of all the pilgrimages of the world. Those people who take refuge in Lord Vishnu, the bearer of the Sharnga bow, never have to suffer the torture of Yamraj. Those people who being Vaishnavs criticize Shiva and being Shaivites criticize Vishnu, definitely go to hell. The result obtained from thousands of Vajpayee and Ashvamedha yagna is not even equal to one-sixteenth part of the Ekadashi fast. There is no other virtue equal to Ekadashi in the world, nor is there anything as sacred as this in the three worlds, similarly there is no other fast equal to this Ekadashi. As long as a person does not observe the Ekadashi fast of Lord PadmaNabha, sin resides in his body.
O King! This Ekadashi gives heaven, salvation, health, beautiful women, food and wealth. Even Ganga, Gaya, Kashi, Kurukshetra and Pushkar are not as pious as this Ekadashi fast. By observing fast and keeping vigil on Harivasar and Ekadashi, a man easily attains the position of Vishnu, and also O King! Those who observe this fast liberate ten generations of the mother’s side, ten generations of the father’s side, ten generations of the wife’s side and ten generations of friends, and they take a divine form and in the form of four arms, wearing yellow clothes and holding a garland in their hand, go to Vishnulok. O best of kings! By observing this fast in childhood, youth and old age, even a sinful man does not get a bad fate but attains a good husband. Those people, who observe the fast of this Papankusha Ekadashi of the Shukla Paksha of Ashwin month, attain Harilok in the end and become free from all sins. Just as a man does not see Yamraj by donating gold, sesame, land, cow, food, water, umbrella and shoes.
Vrat Vidhi:-
First of all, you should wake up early in the morning on Ekadashi take a bath and take a vow to fast. After that, an idol or picture of Lord Vishnu is installed. After that, incense, lamp, coconut and flowers should be used for the worship of Lord Vishnu. Finally, meditate while remembering the form of Lord Vishnu, after that, recite Vishnu Sahasranama and worship him methodically while reading the story.
Note… Jagran must be done on the night of Ekadashi, the next day on Dwadashi morning; this fast should be completed by donating food and Dakshina to Brahmins.
Vrat Katha:-
In ancient times, a very cruel hunter named Krodhan lived on Vindhya Mountain, he spent his whole life in violence, looting, drinking alcohol, and speaking lies. When the end of life came, Yamraj ordered the Yamdoots to bring Krodhan. The messengers of Yama came before time and told him that tomorrow was his last day. Then, Krodhan, fearing death, ran to Maharshi Angira’s ashram and fell at his feet. Maharshi was pleased with his request and told him to observe the fast of Ashwin Shukla Paksha Ekadashi according to the rules. The hunter also observed the fast and worship of Papakunsha Ekadashi according to the rules and went to Vishnu Lok with the blessings of God. The messengers of Yama kept rubbing their hands and returned to Yamlok without Krodhan.
Result of Ekadashi: –
Ekadashi helps in achieving the ultimate goal of living beings, Bhagwad Bhakti. This day is considered very auspicious and fruitful for serving God with full devotion. On this day, if a person is free from desires and serves God with devotion with a pure heart, then he becomes the recipient of God’s blessings.
