दुनिया के इतिहास में शायद क्षत्रिय ही सिर्फ इकलौती कौम है, जिसके वीरता और पराक्रम की गाथाएं दुश्मनों की लिखी हुई किताबों में अधिक मिलती है।
चंगेज खान और तैमूर के वंशज बाबर ने अपनी आत्मकथा पुस्तक “बाबरनामा”में अपने समय राजपूत “राणा सांगा”जी की शक्ति का वर्णन किया है, कि कैसे खानवा के युद्ध से पहले जिसमे उसने तोपो बंदुखो बारूदो का इस्तेमाल नहीं किया था और उस कन्वेंशनल युद्ध में जिसे बयाना का युद्ध कहा जाता है। उस परंपरागत हुए युद्ध में किस तरह राजपूतों ने उसे बुरी तरह परास्त किया था।
जब चंगेज खान का वंशज और मुगल साम्राज्य का संस्थापक बाबर ने लिखा कि राजपूत अपनी वीरता तलवार पराक्रम के बल उस समय सबसे बड़ी शक्ति थे। जिनका सामना करने की हिम्मत दिल्ली, गुजरात व मालवे के सुल्तानों में एक भी बड़े सुल्तान में नहीं थी। ये ताकत राजपूतों की शुरुआती 16 वीं सदी में थी। जब तुर्क अफ़ग़ान शक्तियां भी अपने चरम पर थी। तो राजपूतों को उनसे प्रमाण की जरूरत नहीं जिनका 18 वीं सदी से पहले कोई इतिहास ही नहीं है।
पूरे उपमहाद्वीप में कोई गैर राजपूत शक्ति नहीं जिनके सैनिक शक्ति का वर्णन अरबों, तुर्क, अफगानो से लेकर अंग्रजों तक किताबों में दर्ज हो। राणा सांगा और राजपूतों की शक्ति का वर्णन “तारीख ए अहमद शाही उर्फ तारीख ए सलतानी अफगाना में 16 वीं सदी के प्रसिद्ध अफ़ग़ान इतिहासकार ‘अहमद’ यादगार सहित कई अफ़ग़ान इतिहासकारों ने भी किया है, कि कैसे मुट्ठी भर राजपूतों की सेनाओं ने इब्राहिम लोधी के अपने से दो से तीन गुना संख्या में ज्यादा होने के बावजूद भी अफ़ग़ान घुड़सवारों को परास्त किया था।
