शादी की सुहागसेज पर बैठी एक स्त्री का पति जब भोजनका थाल लेकर अंदर आया तो पूरा कमरा उस स्वादिष्ट भोजन की खुशबू से भर गया रोमांचित उस स्त्री ने अपने पति से निवेदन किया कि मांजी को भी यहीं बुला लेते तो हम तीनों साथ बैठकर भोजन करते. पति ने कहा छोड़ो उन्हें वो खाकर सो गई होंगी आओ हम साथ में भोजन करते है प्यार से, उस स्त्री ने पुनः अपने पति से कहा कि नहीं मैंने उन्हें खाते हुए नहीं देखा है, तो पति ने जवाब दिया कि क्यों तुम जिद कर रही हो शादी के कार्यों से थक गयी होंगी इसलिए सो गई होंगी, नींद टूटेगी तो खुद भोजन कर लेंगी. तुम आओ हम प्यार से खाना खाते हैं. उस स्त्री ने तुरंत तलाक लेने का फैसला कर लिया और तालक लेकर उसने दूसरी शादी कर ली और इधर उसके पहले पति ने भी दूसरी शादी कर ली.
दोनों अलग- अलग सुखी घर गृहस्थी बसा कर खुशी खुशी रहने लगे. इधर उस स्त्री के दो बच्चे हुए जो बहुत ही सुशील और आज्ञाकारी थे. जब वह स्त्री 60 वर्ष की हुई तो वह बेटों को बोली में चारो धाम की यात्रा करना चाहती हूँ ताकि तुम्हारे सुखमय जीवन के लिए प्रार्थना कर सकूँ. बेटे तुरंत अपनी माँ को लेकर चारों धाम की यात्रा पर निकल गये. एक जगह तीनों माँ बेटे भोजन के लिए रुके और बेटे भोजन परोस कर मां से खाने की विनती करने लगे. उसी समय उस स्त्री की नजर सामने एक फटेहाल, भूखे और गंदे से एक वृद्ध पुरुष पर पड़ी जो इस स्त्री के भोजन और बेटों की तरफ बहुत ही कातर नजर से देख रहा था. उस स्त्री को उस पर दया आ गईं और बेटों को बोली जाओ पहले उस वृद्ध को नहलाओ और उसे वस्त्र दो फिर हम सब मिलकर भोजन करेंगे. बेटे जब उस वृद्ध को नहलाकर कपड़े पहनाकर उसे उस स्त्री के सामने लाये तो वह स्त्री. आश्चर्यचकित रह गयी वह वृद्ध वही था जिससे उसने शादी की सुहागरात को ही तलाक ले लिया था.
उसने उससे पूछा कि क्या हो गया जो तुम्हारी हालत इतनी दयनीय हो गई तो उस वृद्ध ने नजर झुका के कहा कि सब कुछ होते ही मेरे बच्चे मुझे भोजन नहीं देते थे, मेरा तिरस्कार करते थे, मुझे घर से बाहर निकाल दिया. उस स्त्री ने उस वृद्ध से कहा कि इस बात का अंदाजा तो मुझे. तुम्हारे साथ सुहागरात को ही लग गया था जब तुमने पहले अपनी बूढ़ी माँ को भोजन कराने के बजाय उस स्वादिष्ट भोजन की थाल लेकर मेरे कमरे में आ गए और मेरे बार-बार कहने के बावजूद भी आप ने अपनी माँ का तिरस्कार किया. उसी का फल आज आप भोग रहे हैं.
जैसा व्यहवार हम अपने,
बुजुर्गों के साथ करेंगे उसी,
देखा-देख कर हमारे बच्चों,
में भी यह गुण आता है कि,
शायद यही परंपरा होती है,
सदैव माँ बाप की सेवा ही,
हमारा दायित्व बनता है,
जिस घर में माँ बाप हँसते है.
वहीं प्रभु बसते है!

At one place all three mothers and sons stopped for food and after serving food the sons started requesting the mother to eat. At the same time, the woman’s eyes fell on a tattered, hungry, and dirty old man in front of her, who was looking at the food and sons of this woman with a very keen eye. That woman felt pity on him and said to the sons, first bathe that old man and give him clothes, then we all will eat together. When the sons brought that old man in front of the woman after bathing him and dressing him, that woman. Surprised, that old man was the same person from whom she had taken divorced on the wedding night itself.
He asked him what happened that his condition became so pathetic, then the old man bowed his eyes and said that as soon as everything happened, his children did not give him food, despised me, and threw me out of the house. That woman told that old man that I have an idea about this. The honeymoon was with you only when instead of feeding your old mother first, you came to my room with a plate of that delicious food and despite my saying it repeatedly, you despised your mother. You are reaping the fruits of that today.
