चित्र इद राजा राजका इदन्यके यके सरस्वतीमनु।
पर्जन्य इव ततनद धि वर्ष्ट्या सहस्रमयुता ददत ॥
यम द्वितीया के दिन ही चित्रगुप्त पूजा भी मनाई जाती है. यह पर्व कायस्थ वर्ग में अधिक प्रचलित है चुकिं, इनके ईष्ट देवता भगवान चित्रगुप्तजी हैं. धार्मिक ग्रन्थों के अनुसार धर्मराज चित्रगुप्तजी भगवान यमराज के दरवार में मनुष्यों के पाप-पुण्य का लेखा-जोखा रखते हैं और न्याय करते हैं.
कथा:-
पुरातन समय में सौराष्ट्र राज्य के राजा जिनका नाम सौदास था, वो बड़ा ही पापी और अधर्मी था, उसने कभी भी कोई पूण्य का काम नहीं किया था. एक बार शिकार खेलते समय जंगल में भटक गया, और रास्ता खोजते हुए आगे बढ़ा तो उसने देखा कि एक ब्राह्मण पूजा कर रहे हैं. राजा ब्राह्मण के पास गया और उनसे पूछा की आप किनकी पूजा कर रहें है. ब्राह्मण ने कहा आज कार्तिक शुक्ल द्वितीया है इस दिन मैं यमराज और चित्रगुप्त महाराज की पूजा कर रहा हूं, इनकी पूजा नरक से मुक्ति प्रदान करने वाली है. राजा ने तब ब्राह्मण से पूजा की विधि पूछकर वहीं चित्रगुप्त और यमराज की पूजा की.
समय के अंत में यमदूत राजा के प्राण लेने आ गये और, दूत राजा की आत्मा को जंजीरों में बांधकर घसीटते हुए ले गये. लहुलुहान राजा यमराज के दरबार में जब पहुंचा, उस वक्त चित्रगुप्त ने राजा के कर्मों की पुस्तिका खोली और कहा कि, हे यमराज यूं तो यह राजा बड़ा ही पापी है और इसने सदा पाप कर्म ही किए हैं, परंतु इसने कार्तिक शुक्ल द्वितीया तिथि को हमारा और आपका व्रत पूजन किया है अत: इसके पाप कट गये हैं और अब इसे धर्मानुसार नरक नहीं भेजा जा सकता है, इस प्रकार राजा को नरक से मुक्ति मिल गई और राजा स्वर्ग चला गया.

Story:-
In ancient times, the king of Saurashtra state whose name was Saudis was very sinful and unrighteous, he had never done any charitable work. Once, while playing hunting, wandered in the forest, and while looking for a way forward, he saw a Brahmin worshiping. The king went to the brahmin and asked him whom you are worshiping. The Brahmin said that today is Kartik Shukla II. The king then asked the Brahmin about the method of worship and worshiped Chitragupta and Yamraj there.
At the end of time, the eunuchs came to take the king’s life and, the messengers carried the king’s soul in chains and dragged him away. When the bloody king reached the court of Yamraj, at that time Chitragupta opened the book of the king’s deeds and said, O Yamraj, this king is a very sinner and he has always committed sinful deeds, but he did us on Kartik Shukla Dwitiya Tithi. And you have worshiped your fast, so its sins have been cut and now it cannot be sent to hell according to religion, thus the king got freedom from hell and the king went to heaven.
