बिहार भारत के सबसे प्राचीन और ऐतिहासिक राज्यों में से एक है. यह क्षेत्र प्राचीन काल से ही शिक्षा, संस्कृति और धर्म का केंद्र रहा है. प्रत्येक वर्ष 22 मार्च को बिहार दिवस मनाया जाता है. यह दिवस बिहार राज्य के गठन और उसकी ऐतिहासिक, सांस्कृतिक, सामाजिक और आर्थिक विरासत को समर्पित है. ज्ञात है कि, 22 मार्च 1912 को ब्रिटिश शासन के दौरान बिहार को बंगाल प्रेसीडेंसी से अलग करके एक स्वतंत्र राज्य के रूप में स्थापित किया गया था. इस दिन को बिहार के लोग अपने राज्य के गौरवशाली इतिहास और समृद्ध संस्कृति को याद करते हुए मनाते हैं.
बिहार की धरती पर नालंदा और विक्रमशिला जैसे प्रसिद्ध विश्वविद्यालय स्थित थे, जो शिक्षा के प्रमुख केंद्र थे. यहाँ बौद्ध और जैन धर्म का उदय हुआ और महात्मा बुद्ध ने बोधगया में ज्ञान प्राप्त किया. मौर्य और गुप्त साम्राज्य जैसे महान साम्राज्यों ने बिहार को अपनी राजधानी बनाया और भारतीय इतिहास में स्वर्णिम अध्याय जोड़े. यहाँ की संस्कृति अत्यंत समृद्ध और विविधतापूर्ण है. यहाँ की लोक संस्कृति, लोकगीत, नृत्य और परंपराएँ राज्य की पहचान हैं. चाहे वह बिहू नृत्य हो, मधुबनी चित्रकला हो या फिर बिहार के लोकगीत, ये सभी बिहार की सांस्कृतिक धरोहर को दर्शाते हैं. बिहार के त्योहार और मेले, जैसे छठ पूजा, सोनपुर मेला और मकर संक्रांति, राज्य की सांस्कृतिक विरासत को जीवंत रखते हैं.

Bihar is one of India’s most ancient and historically significant states. Since ancient times, this region has served as a pivotal center for education, culture, and religion. Bihar Diwas is celebrated annually on March 22nd. This day is dedicated to commemorating the formation of the state of Bihar, as well as its rich historical, cultural, social, and economic heritage. It is noteworthy that on March 22, 1912—during the era of British rule—Bihar was separated from the Bengal Presidency and established as an independent state. On this day, the people of Bihar celebrate by reflecting upon their state’s glorious history and rich culture.
The land of Bihar was home to renowned universities such as Nalanda and Vikramshila, which stood as prominent centers of learning. It was here that Buddhism and Jainism originated, and where Mahatma Buddha attained enlightenment in Bodh Gaya. Great empires, such as the Mauryan and Gupta dynasties, established their capitals in Bihar, thereby adding golden chapters to the annals of Indian history. The culture of this region is exceptionally rich and diverse. Its folk culture, folk songs, dances, and traditions constitute the very identity of the state. Whether it be the Bihu dance, Madhubani painting, or the folk songs of Bihar, all these elements vividly reflect Bihar’s cultural heritage. Bihar’s festivals and fairs—such as Chhath Puja, the Sonepur Mela, and Makar Sankranti—serve to keep the state’s cultural legacy alive.
The primary objective of Bihar Diwas is to commemorate the state’s glorious history, culture, and achievements, and to pass this legacy on to the new generation. This day provides the people of Bihar with an opportunity to take pride in their identity and heritage. Over the past few years, the state of Bihar has made remarkable strides in both the economic and social spheres. Thanks to the efforts undertaken by the state government in the fields of education, healthcare, infrastructure, and agriculture, Bihar is rapidly advancing along the path of development.
