वाल्व्याससुमनजीमहाराज कहते है की, भाद्र (भादो) महीने के कृष्ण पक्ष में होने वाली एकादशी व्रत को करने से समस्त मनोकामनाएं पूर्ण हो जाती है. महाराजजी कहते हैं कि, पद्म पुराण के अनुसार जो व्यक्ति इस एकादशी व्रत को विधिपूर्वक करता है, उसके लिए मोक्ष के द्वार खुल जाते हैं, सांसारिक लाभ तो प्राप्त करता है साथ ही मृत्यु उपरांत परलोक में आनंद की प्राप्ति होती है. महाराजजी कहते हैं, एकबार युधिष्ठिर मधुसुदन से पूछते हैं कि भाद्रपद कृष्ण एकादशी का क्या नाम है? और इस व्रत करने की विधि तथा इसका माहात्म्य के बारे में कृपा करके बताइए. मधुसूदन कहते हैं कि, इस एकादशी का नाम “अजा” है और यह सब प्रकार के समस्त पापों का नाश करती है. जो भी मनुष्य इस दिन भगवान ऋषिकेश की पूजा करता है, अवश्य ही उसको वैकुंठ की प्राप्ति होती है. एकादशी के दिन भगवान श्री विष्णु जी की पूजा करनी चाहिए, रात्रि जागरण व व्रत करने से व्यक्ति के सभी पाप समाप्त हो जाते है. इस एकादशी के फल लोक और परलोक दोनों में उत्तम कहे गये है, साथ ही उस व्यक्ति को हजार गौदान करने के समान फल प्राप्त होते है, उसके जाने-अनजाने में किए गये सभी पाप समाप्त हो जाते है. और जीवन में सुख-समृ्द्धि की प्राप्ति होती है. इस एकादशी की कथा के श्रवण मात्र से ही अश्वमेघ यज्ञ के समान फल मिलता है.
पूजन सामाग्री :-
वेदी, कलश, सप्तधान, पंच पल्लव, रोली, गोपी चन्दन, गंगा जल, दूध, दही, गाय के घी का दीपक, सुपाड़ी, शहद, पंचामृत, मोगरे की अगरबत्ती, ऋतू फल, फुल, आंवला, अनार, लौंग, नारियल, नीबूं, नवैध, केला और तुलसी पत्र व मंजरी.
पूजा-विधि:-
एकादशी के दिन स्नानादि से पवित्र होने के पश्चात संकल्प करके श्रीविष्णु के विग्रह की पूजन करना चाहिए. भगवान विष्णु को फूल, फल, तिल, दूध, पंचामृत आदि नाना पदार्थ निवेदित करके, आठों प्रहर निर्जल रहकर विष्णु जी के नाम का स्मरण एवं कीर्तन करना चाहिए. एकादशी व्रत में ब्राह्मण भोजन एवं दक्षिणा का बड़ा ही महत्व है अत: ब्राह्मण को भोजन करवाकर दक्षिणा सहित विदा करने के पश्चात ही भोजना ग्रहण करें. इस प्रकार जो कामिका एकादशी का व्रत रखता है, उसकी सभी कामनाएं पूर्ण हो जाती हैं.
कथा:-
प्राचीन काल में एक चक्रवती राजा राज्य करते थे, उनका नाम हरिशचन्द्र था. वह अत्यन्त ही वीर प्रतापी और सत्यवादी थे. उन्होंने अपने एक वचन को पूरा करने के लिये अपनी स्त्री और पुत्र को बेच डाला और स्वयं भी एक चाण्डाल के सेवक बन गये. उन्होंने उस चाण्डाल के यहां कफन लेने का काम करने लगे, और इस विषम परिस्थिति में भी सत्य का साथ न छोडा. इस प्रकार रहते हुए उनको बहुत वर्ष बीत गये, और अपने इस नीच कर्म पर बडा दु:ख हुआ, तो वे इससे मुक्त होने का उपाय खोजने लगे. हर समय एक ही चिंता में डूबे रहते कि मै ऐसा क्या करूँ, कि मुझे भी मुक्ति मिले. इसी तरह की चिंता में डूबे हुए थे, उसी समय गौतम ऋषि के दर्शन प्राप्त हुए, राजा ने इन्हें देखकर प्रणाम किया और अपनी दु:ख की कथा सुनाने लगे. महर्षि राजा के दु:ख से पूर्ण वाक्यों को सुनकर अत्यन्त दु:खी हो गये, और राजा से बोले की, हे राजन, भादो महीने के कृ्ष्णपक्ष में एक एकाद्शी होती है, उस एकाद्शी का नाम अजा है. तुम उसी अजा नामक एकादशी का विधिपूर्वक व्रत करो, तथा रात्रि को जागरन करो, इससे तुम्हारे समस्त पाप नष्ट हो जायेगें. इस प्रकार कहकर गौतम ऋषि चले गये़.
अजा एकाद्शी आने पर राजा ने मुनि के कहे अनुसार विधि-पूर्वक व्रत और रात्रि जागरण किया. उस व्रत के प्रभाव से राजा के समस्त पाप नष्ट हो गए और स्वर्ग में नगाडे बजने लगे तथा पुष्पों की वर्षो होने लगी. उन्होंने अपने सामने ब्रह्मा, विष्णु, इन्द्र और महादेवजी को खडा पाया, साथ ही अपने मृतक पुत्र को जीवित तथा स्त्री को वस्त्र व आभूषणों से युक्त देखा. व्रत के प्रभाव से राजा को पुन: राज्य मिल गया. अन्त समय में वह अपने परिवार सहित स्वर्ग लोक को गये. पुराणों के अनुसार, जो व्यक्ति श्रृद्धापूर्वक अजा एकादशी का व्रत करता है, उसके पूर्व जन्म के पाप कट जाते हैं, और इस जन्म में सुख-समृद्धि की प्राप्ति होती है. अजा एकादशी के व्रत से अश्वमेघ यज्ञ करने के समान पुण्य की प्राप्ति होती है, और मृत्यु के पश्चात व्यक्ति उत्तम लोक को प्राप्त करता है.
एकादशी का फल:-
एकादशी प्राणियों के परम लक्ष्य, भगवद भक्ति, को प्राप्त करने में सहायक होती है. यह दिन प्रभु की पूर्ण श्रद्धा से सेवा करने के लिए अति शुभकारी एवं फलदायक माना गया है. इस दिन व्यक्ति इच्छाओं से मुक्त हो कर यदि शुद्ध मन से भगवान की भक्तिमयी सेवा करता है तो वह अवश्य ही प्रभु की कृपापात्र बनता है.
ध्यान दें:-
प्रातः काल सूर्योदय से पूर्व उठकर स्नान करे तथा स्वच्छ वस्त्र धारण कर भगवान् विष्णु की प्रतिमा के सामने घी का दीपक जलाएं, और भगवान् विष्णु की पूजा में तुलसी, ऋतु फल एवं तिल का प्रयोग अवश्य करें. व्रत के दिन अन्न वर्जित करें, निराहार रहें और शाम में पूजा के बाद चाहें तो फल ग्रहण कर सकते है. यदि आप किसी कारण व्रत नहीं रखते हैं तो भी, एकादशी के दिन चावल का प्रयोग भोजन में नहीं करना चाहिए. एकादशी के दिन रात्रि जागरण का बड़ा महत्व होता है, अगर संभव हो तो, रात में जगकर भगवान का भजन कीर्तन करें. एकादशी के दिन विष्णुसहस्रनाम का पाठ करने से भगवान विष्णु की विशेष कृपा प्राप्त होती है. अगले दिन यानी द्वादशी तिथि को ब्राह्मण भोजन करवाने के बाद स्वयं भोजन करें.

Aja Ekadashi Vrat…
Valvyassumanji Maharaj says that observing Ekadashi fasting in the Krishna Paksha of Bhadra (Bhado) month will fulfill all the wishes. Maharaj ji says that, according to Padma Purana, the person who observes this Ekadashi fasting methodically, the doors of salvation are opened for him, and he receives worldly benefits as well as enjoyment in the afterlife after death. Maharaj ji says once Yudhishthira asks Madhusudan what the name of Bhadrapada Krishna Ekadashi is. And please tell me about the method of observing this fast and its importance. Madhusudan says that the name of this Ekadashi is “Aja” and it destroys all kinds of sins. Whoever worships Lord Rishikesh on this day, surely, he gets Vaikunth. Lord Vishnu should be worshiped on the day of Ekadashi all the sins of a person are eradicated by observing night awakening and fasting. The fruits of this Ekadashi are said to be the best in both the world and the hereafter, as well as that person gets the same results as donating a thousand cows, all the sins committed by him knowingly or unknowingly are eradicated. And there is happiness and prosperity in life. The mere hearing of the story of this Ekadashi gives results similar to that of Ashwamedha Yagya.
Pooja Ingredients: –
Altar, Kalash, Saptadhan, Pancha Pallava, Roli, Gopi sandalwood, Ganga water, Milk, Curd, Cow’s ghee lamp, Betel nut, Honey, Panchamrit, Mogre’s incense sticks, Ritu fruit, Flower, Amla, Pomegranate, Clove, Coconut, Lemon, Navaidh, Banana and Tulsi leaves and Manjari.
Pooja-Vidhi: –
On the day of Ekadashi, after being purified from bathing, one should worship the Deity of Shri Vishnu with a resolution. After offering various substances like flowers, fruits, sesame, milk, Panchamrit, etc. to Lord Vishnu, one should remember and chant the name of Vishnu Ji by staying waterless for eight hours. Brahmin food and Dakshina are of great importance in Ekadashi fast, so after giving food to Brahmins and leaving them with Dakshina, take food only after leaving. In this way the one who observes the fast of Kamika Ekadashi, all his wishes get fulfilled.
Story: –
In ancient times, a Chakravati king ruled, his name was Harishchandra. He was very brave, majestic and truthful. He sold his wife and son to fulfill one of his promises and himself became the servant of a Chandala. He started doing the work of taking the shroud at that Chandal and did not leave the truth even in this odd situation. Many years passed while living in this way, and there was great sorrow over this lowly deed of his, so he started looking for a way to get rid of it. All the time, I used to be immersed in the same worry that what should I do so that I also get freedom. They were immersed in similar anxiety, at the same time the vision of Gautam Rishi was received, and the king bowed after seeing them and started narrating the story of his sorrow. The Maharishi became very sad after hearing the complete sentences of the king and said to the king that, O king, there is an Ekadashi in the Krishna Paksha of Bhado month, the name of that Ekadashi is Aja. You fast on the same Ekadashi called Aja, and do Jagran in the night, by this all your sins will be destroyed. Saying this way Gautam Rishi left.
On the arrival of Aja Ekadashi, the king observed fast and night awakening according to the instructions of the sage. With the effect of that fast, all the sins of the king were destroyed and drums started ringing in heaven and flowers started blooming for years. He found Brahma, Vishnu, Indra, and Mahadevji standing in front of him, as well as saw his deceased son alive and a woman with clothes and ornaments. Due to the effect of the fast, the king got the kingdom again. At last he went to heaven with his family. According to the Puranas, the person who observes Aja Ekadashi with reverence, the sins of his previous birth are cut away, and happiness and prosperity are attained in this birth. By fasting on Aja Ekadashi, one attains the same virtue as performing Ashvamedha Yagya, and after death, the person attains the best world.
Ekadashi ka Phal: –
Ekadashi helps in achieving the ultimate goal of beings, devotion to God. This day is considered very auspicious and fruitful to serve the Lord with full devotion. On this day, if a person becomes free from desires and does devotional service to God with a pure heart, then he definitely becomes a beneficiary of the Lord.
Dhyaan Den: –
Wake up in the morning before sunrise, take bath and wear clean clothes and light a lamp of ghee in front of the idol of Lord Vishnu, and use Tulsi, Ritu fruit, and sesame seeds in the worship of Lord Vishnu. Avoid food on the day of fast, stay fast and if you want after worship in the evening, you can take fruits. Even if you do not keep fast for some reason, the rice should not be used in food on Ekadashi. Night awakening is of great importance on the day of Ekadashi, if possible, wake up at night and do bhajan – kirtan of God. Reciting Vishnu Sahasranama on Ekadashi gives special grace to Lord Vishnu. On the next day i.e., on Dwadashi Tithi, after offering Brahmin food, eat your own food.
