भारत ने उपग्रह क्षेत्र में अपना प्रवेश 19 अप्रैल 1975 को आर्यभट्ट उपग्रह के प्रक्षेपण के साथ किया. आर्यभट्ट, जिसे भारतीय प्राचीन गणितज्ञ और खगोल शास्त्री के नाम पर रखा गया था, सोवियत संघ द्वारा कापुस्तिन यार से कोसमॉस-3एम प्रक्षेपण यान के माध्यम से प्रक्षेपित किया गया था.
इस प्रक्षेपण ने भारत को अंतरिक्ष यान संचालन क्षेत्र में प्रवेश दिलाया और भारतीय अंतरिक्ष कार्यक्रम के विकास में एक महत्वपूर्ण मील का पत्थर साबित हुआ.

Access to satellite area
India made its entry into the satellite sector with the launch of the Aryabhata satellite on 19 April 1975. Aryabhata, named after the ancient Indian mathematician and astronomer, was launched by the Soviet Union on a Kosmos-3M launch vehicle from Kapustin Yar.
This launch marked India’s entry into the spaceflight operations arena and marked an important milestone in the development of the Indian space program.
