वर्ष 1865 में विश्व संचार दिवस मनाने की शुरुआत हुई थी लेकिन, आधुनिक समय में इसकी शुरुआत वर्ष 1969 में हुई. वर्ष 2006 में टर्की में आयोजित पूर्णाधिकारी कांफ्रेंस में यह भी निर्णय लिया गया था कि ‘विश्व दूरसंचार’ एवं ‘सूचना’ एवं ‘सोसाइटी दिवस’, तीनों को एक साथ मनाया जाए.
आधुनिक युग में फोन, मोबाइल और इंटरनेट लोगों की प्रथम आवश्यकता बन गया है. इसके बिना जीवन की कल्पना करना बहुत ही मुश्किल हो चुका है.वर्तमान समय में इंसान के व्यक्तिगत जीवन से लेकर व्यावसायिक जीवन में पूरी तक प्रवेश कर चुका है.पहले जहाँ किसी से संपर्क साधने के लिए लोगों को काफ़ी मशक्कत करनी पड़ती थी, वहीं आज मोबाइल और इंटरनेट ने इसे बहुत ही आसान बना दिया है.
यह दूरसंचार की क्रांति की ही दें है कि, भारत जैसे विकासशील देशों की गिनती भी विश्व के कुछ ऐसे देशों में होती है, जिनकी अर्थव्यवस्था तेज़ी से रफ्तार पकड़ रही है.

Celebration of World Communication Day was started in the year 1865 but, in modern times it started in the year 1969. In the plenipotentiary conference held in Turkey in the year 2006, it was also decided that ‘World Telecom’ and ‘Information’, and ‘Society Day’, all three should be celebrated together.
In the modern era, phones, mobile and the internet have become the first necessity of people. It has become very difficult to imagine life without it. In the present time, from the personal life of the human being to the business life, it has entered completely. Earlier where People used to struggle a lot to get in touch with someone, whereas today mobile and the internet have made it very easy.
It is only because of the revolution of telecommunication that, developing countries like India are also counted among some of the countries in the world whose economy is catching up fast.
