ठाकुर रोशन सिंह

ठाकुर रोशन सिंह का जन्म उत्तर प्रदेश के शाहजहाँपुर जनपद में फतेहगंज से 10 किलोमीटर दूर स्थित गाँव नबादा में 22  जनवरी 1892 को हुआ था. उनके पिता का नाम ठाकुर जंगी सिंह और माता का नाम कौशल्या देवी देवी था.पाँच भाई-बहनों में सबसे बड़े ठाकुर रोशन सिंह थे. वो एक अच्छे शूटर और रेसलर भी थे.

जब उत्तर प्रदेश सरकार ने भारतीय राष्ट्रिय कांग्रेस के वालंटियर कोर्प्स पर नवम्बर 1921 में बंदी लगा दी थी, तब देश के सभी कोनो से सरकार के इस निर्णय का विरोध किया जा रहा था. ठाकुर रोशन सिंह ने शाहजहांपुर जिले से बरेली भेजे जा रहे आक्रामक सेना वालंटियर्स का नेतृत्व किया था.पुलिस ने भी जुलुस को रोकने के लिए गोलियों का सहारा लिया था और इसके बाद रोशन सिंह और दुसरे जुलुसकर्ताओ को गिरफ्तार किया गया था.उन्हें दो साल तक बरेली के सेंट्रल जेल में कैद किया गया था. जेल में रहते समय जेलर उनसे बुरा व्यवहार करता था, लोगो के अनुसार जेल में ब्रिटिश लोग उन्हें कठोर परिस्थितियों में रखते थे. उन्होंने जेल में ही यह निश्चित कर लिया की वह ब्रिटिश सरकार से उनके असभ्य व्यवहार का बदला जरुर लेंगे.

सेंट्रल जेल से रिहा होने के बाद वो पंडित राम प्रसाद बिस्मिल से मिले. बिस्मिल पहले से ही अपनी क्रांतिकारी पार्टी के लिए किसी अच्छे शूटर की तलाश में थे. जब ठाकुर उनसे मिले तो बिस्मिल ने तुरंत ठाकुर को अपनी पार्टी में शामिल कर लिया और उन्होंने ठाकुर को पार्टी के सभी सदस्यों को शूटिंग सिखाने के लिए भी कहा.

ठाकुर रोशन सिंह काकोरी ट्रेन लुट में शामिल ही नही थे फिर भी उन्हें गिरफ्तार किया गया और मोहन लाल के खून में मौत की सजा सुनाई गयी. जब सजा सुनाई जा रही थी तब जज ने IPC के सेक्शन 121 (A) और 120 (B) के तहत पाँच साल की सजा सुनाई थी, और रोशन सिंह इंग्लिश शब्द “पाँच साल” आसानी से समझ सकते थे, सजा सुनने के बाद ठाकुर रोशन सिंह ने जज से उन्हें पंडित राम प्रसाद बिस्मिल के गुनाह जितनी सजा ना सुनाने की सिफारिश भी की थी.

ठाकुर ने इलाहाबाद की नैनी जेल की काल कोठरी से अपने एक मित्र को पत्र में लिखा-“एक सप्ताह के भीतर ही फ़ाँसी होगी. ईश्वर से प्रार्थना है कि आप मेरे लिए रंज हरगिज न करें. पत्र के अंत उन्होंने शेर भी लिखा-

“..ज़िंदगी जिंदा-दिली को जान ऐ रोशन

..वरना कितने ही यहाँ रोज़ फ़ना होते हैं..”

Thakur Roshan Singh

Thakur Roshan Singh was born on 22 January 1892 in the village Nabada, located 10 kilometers away from Fatehganj in the Shahjahanpur district of Uttar Pradesh. His father’s name was Thakur Jangi Singh and his mother’s name was Kaushalya Devi Devi. Thakur Roshan Singh was the eldest of five siblings. He was also a good shooter and wrestler.

When the Government of Uttar Pradesh banned the Volunteer Corps of the Indian National Congress in November 1921, then this decision of the government was opposed from all corners of the country. Thakur Roshan Singh led the offensive Army Volunteers being sent to Bareilly from the Shahjahanpur district. Police also resorted to firing to stop the procession and after that Roshan Singh and other processionists were arrested. They were imprisoned for two years Was imprisoned in Bareilly’s Central Jail. While in jail, the jailer used to misbehave with him, according to the people, the British kept him in harsh conditions in the jail. He decided in the jail itself that he would definitely take revenge on the British Government for their uncivilized behavior.

After being released from the Central Jail, he met Pandit Ram Prasad Bismil. Bismil was already looking for a good shooter for his revolutionary party. When Thakur met him, Bismil immediately included Thakur in his party and he also asked Thakur to teach shooting to all the party members.

Thakur Roshan Singh was not involved in the Kakori train robbery, yet he was arrested and sentenced to death in the blood of Mohan Lal. When the sentence was being pronounced, the judge sentenced five years under sections 121 (A) and 120 (B) of the IPC, and Roshan Singh could easily understand the English word “five years”, Thakur after hearing the sentence Roshan Singh also recommended the judge not to punish him as much as the crime of Pandit Ram Prasad Bismil.

Thakur wrote in a letter to a friend from the dungeon of Allahabad’s Naini Jail – “The hanging will take place within a week. I pray to God that you should never be angry with me. At the end of the letter, he also wrote a sher-

“..Zindagi Zinda-Dilli Ko Jaan Ae Roshan

..otherwise so many die here every day..”
