अपनी बेहतरीन कॉमिक टाइमिंग और किसी भी किरदार में आसानी से ढल जाने की काबिलियत के लिए मशहूर एक्टर सतीश शाह ने दर्शकों के दिलों में एक खास जगह बनाई थी. 25 अक्टूबर 2025 को 74 साल की उम्र में किडनी फेल होने के कारण उनका निधन हो गया. उनके जाने से एक युग का भी अंत हो गया.
सतीश शाह का जन्म 25 जून 1951 को गुजरात के कच्छ जिले में हुआ था. उन्होंने NSD और FTII में अपनी एक्टिंग स्किल्स को निखारा और मुंबई की सड़कों पर अपने सपनों को आकार दिया. उन्होंने अपने कैरियर की शुरुआत गुजराती थिएटर से की थी. सतीश शाह ने अपने बहुमुखी टैलेंट व समर्पण के कारण उनका कैरियर करीब चार दशकों तक चला. उन्होंने न सिर्फ मेनस्ट्रीम सिनेमा में काम किया, बल्कि पैरेलल सिनेमा और टेलीविज़न में भी यादगार रोल निभाए.
टेलीविज़न की दुनिया में, सतीश शाह को खासकर ‘साराभाई वर्सेस साराभाई’ में इंद्रावदन साराभाई के रोल के लिए याद किया जाता है. अपनी पत्नी माया साराभाई के साथ उनकी नोकझोंक और अपने बच्चों को छेड़ने का उनका अंदाज़ हर घर में पॉपुलर था. इससे पहले वर्ष 1984 के सिटकॉम ‘ये जो है ज़िंदगी’ में उन्होंने 55 एपिसोड में 55 अलग-अलग किरदार निभाकर अपनी एक्टिंग का लोहा मनवाया था. उन्होंने 250 से ज़्यादा हिंदी फिल्मों में काम किया. वर्ष 1983 की कल्ट क्लासिक फिल्म ‘जाने भी दो यारों’ में ‘लाश’ के साथ कमिश्नर डी’मेलो के रूप में उनका रोल भारतीय सिनेमा के सबसे यादगार कॉमिक किरदारों में से एक है. इसके अलावा, ‘दिलवाले दुल्हनिया ले जाएंगे’, ‘हम आपके हैं कौन’, ‘कल हो ना हो’, ‘फना’ में उनके रोल और शाहरुख खान स्टारर ‘मैं हूं ना’ में प्रोफेसर रसिक देसाई (कैचफ्रेज़ ‘अल्फाज़’ के साथ) के रूप में उनके किरदार को भी खूब सराहा गया.
सतीश शाह की एक्टिंग स्टाइल की सबसे बड़ी खासियत उनकी सादगी और नैचुरलता थी. उन्होंने कभी भी जबरदस्ती कॉमेडी नहीं की, उनके डायलॉग और फिजिकल एक्सप्रेशन ही दर्शकों को हंसाने के लिए काफी थे. एक सपोर्टिंग एक्टर या कैरेक्टर एक्टर के तौर पर, उन्होंने अपने किरदारों को इतनी असरदार तरीके से जीवंत किया कि वे अक्सर मुख्य किरदारों पर भारी पड़ जाते थे.

Earlier, in the 1984 sitcom ‘Yeh Jo Hai Zindagi’, he proved his acting prowess by playing 55 different characters in 55 episodes. He acted in over 250 Hindi films. His role as Commissioner D’Mello (with the ‘corpse’) in the 1983 cult classic film ‘Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro’ is one of the most memorable comic characters in Indian cinema. Besides this, his roles in ‘Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge’, ‘Hum Aapke Hain Koun’, ‘Kal Ho Naa Ho’, ‘Fanaa’, and his character as Professor Rasik Desai (with the catchphrase ‘Alfaaz’) in the Shah Rukh Khan starrer ‘Main Hoon Na’ were also highly appreciated.
