- कवि गंगाधर मेहरे:- आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1862 में उड़िया भाषा के कवि गंगाधर मेहरे का जन्म अविभक्त सम्बलपुर जिला और वर्तमान बरगढ़ जिला के बरपालि गाँव में एक निर्धन जुलाहा परिवार हुआ था. गंगाधर ने कपड़े बनाते-बनाते कविता करना सीखा था. गंगाधर को उड़िया भाषा का कालिदास भी कहा जाता है.
- लॉर्ड लिटन द्वितीय:- आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1876 में बंगाल के ब्रिटिश गवर्नर लॉर्ड लिटन द्वितीय का जन्म शिमला, भारत में हुआ था.
- पुस्तकालाध्यक्ष एस. आर.रंगनाथन:- आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1892 में पुस्तकालाध्यक्ष एस. आर.रंगनाथन का जन्म शियाली, मद्रास (वर्तमान चेन्नई) में हुआ था. उनकी शिक्षा शियाली के हिन्दू हाई स्कूल, मद्रास क्रिश्चयन कॉलेज में हुई थी. वर्ष 1924 में उन्हें मद्रास विश्वविद्यालय का पहला पुस्तकालयाध्यक्ष बनाया गया और इस पद की योग्यता हासिल करने के लिए वे यूनिवर्सिटी कॉलेज, लंदन में अध्ययन करने के लिए इंग्लैंड गए. वर्ष 1945-1947 के दौरान एस. आर. रंगनाथन ने बनारस हिन्दू विश्वविद्यालय में पुस्तकालयाध्यक्ष और पुस्तकालय विज्ञान के प्राध्यापक के रूप में कार्य किया व वर्ष 1947-1954 के दौरान उन्होंने दिल्ली विश्वविद्यालय में भी पढ़ाया. पुस्तकालय विज्ञान के लिए एस. आर. रंगनाथन का प्रमुख तकनीकी योगदान वर्गीकरण और अनुक्रमणीकरण (इंडेक्सिंग) सिद्धांत था. उनके कॉलन क़्लासिफ़िकेशन ने ऐसी प्रणाली शुरू की, जिसे विश्व भर में व्यापक रूप में इस्तेमाल किया जाता है. इस पद्धति ने डेवी दशमलव वर्गीकरण जैसी पुरानी पद्धति के विकास को प्रभावित किया. उन्होंने विषय अनुक्रमणीकरण प्रविष्टियों के लिए ‘श्रृंखला अनुक्रमणीकरण’ की तकनीक भी तैयार की थी.
- उपन्यासकार शिवपूजन सहाय:- आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1893 में उपन्यासकार शिवपूजन सहाय का जन्म उनवास ग्राम, उपसंभाग बक्सर, शाहाबाद ज़िला (बिहार) में हुआ था. वर्ष 1912 ई. में आरा नगर के एक हाईस्कूल से शिवपूजन सहाय ने मैट्रिक की परीक्षा उत्तीर्ण की थी. वर्ष 1921-1922 ई. के आस-पास शिवपूजन सहाय ने आरा से निकलने वाले ‘मारवाड़ी सुधार’ नामक मासिक पत्रिका का सम्पादन किया था. शिवपूजन सहाय की लिखी हुई पुस्तकों में ‘बिहार का बिहार’ बिहार प्रान्त का भौगोलिक एवं ऐतिहासिक वर्णन प्रस्तुत करती है. बताते चलें कि, ‘बिहार हिन्दी साहित्य सम्मेलन’ तथा ‘बिहार राष्ट्रभाषा परिषद’ नामक हिन्दी की दो प्रसिद्ध संस्थाएँ इनकी कीर्ति कथा के अमूल्य स्मारक के रूप में हैं.
- साहित्यकार विनायक कृष्ण गोकाक:- आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1909 में ज्ञानपीठ पुरस्कार’ से सम्मानित कन्नड़ भाषा के साहित्यकार विनायक कृष्ण गोकाक का जन्म हावेरी जिला, कर्नाटक में हुआ था.
- राजनीतिज्ञ हितेन्द्र देसाई:- आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1915 में गुजरात के तीसरे मुख्यमंत्री हितेन्द्र देसाई का जन्म सूरत में हुआ था.
- काकोरी काण्ड:- आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1925 में काकोरी काण्ड की घटना घटित हुई थी. बताते चलें कि, क्रन्तिकारी राम प्रसाद बिस्मिल के नेतृत्व में रेल के द्वारा ले जा रही अंग्रेजों की संग्रहित धनराशि को लूटा गया था.
- राजनीतिज्ञ एम. एम. जेकब:- आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1926 में राजनीतिज्ञ एम. एम. जेकब का जन्म केरल में हुआ था.
- साहित्यकार मनोहर श्याम जोशी:- आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1933 में गद्यकार, उपन्यासकार, व्यंग्यकार, पत्रकार मनोहर श्याम जोशी का जन्म अजमेर(राजस्थान) के एक प्रतिष्ठित एवं सुशिक्षित परिवार में हुआ था.
- साहित्यकार अभिमन्यु अनत:- आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1937 में साहित्यकार अभिमन्यु अनत का जन्म त्रिओले, मॉरीशस में हुआ था.
- गांधी गिरफ्तार:- आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1942 में महात्मा गांधी को ब्रिटिश सरकार ने गिरफ्तार किया था. बताते चलें कि, भारत छोड़ो आंदोलन के दौरान महात्मा गांधी ने ‘करो या मरो’ का नारा दिया था. जिसके बाद ब्रिटिश सरकार ने महात्मा गांधी सहित 50 समर्थकों को गिरफ्तार किया था.
- इंडियन नेशनल आर्मी की स्थापना:- आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1942 में स्वतंत्रता सेनानी नेताजी सुभाष चंद्र बोस ने मलाया (अब मलेशिया) में जापान की मदद से इंडियन नेशनल आर्मी की स्थापना की थी.
- अनाक्रमण संधि:- आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1971में भारत और सोवियत संघ ने 20 साल की ‘शांति और मित्रता की संधि’ पर हस्ताक्षर हुआ था. बताते चलें कि, यह संधि चीन और संयुक्त राज्य अमेरिका के साथ पाकिस्तानी संबंधों को बढ़ाने के कारण हुई थी.
- अभिनेता महेश बाबू:- आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1971में अभिनेता महेश बाबू का जन्म चेन्नई, तमिलनाडु में हुआ था. इनका पूरा नाम पूरा नाम महेश घट्टामनेनी है. उनके पिता का नाम कृष्णा है जो की प्रसिद्ध तेलुगु अभिनेता है और उनकी माँ का नाम इंदिरा देवी है और उनकी सौतेली माँ का नाम विजया निर्मला हैं. महेश की प्रारम्भिक शिक्षा सेंट बेडे के एंग्लो इंडियन हायर सेकेंडरी स्कूल, चेन्नई से हुई थी. महेश ने अपने अभिनय कैरियर की शुरुआत वर्ष 1975 में एक बाल कलाकार के रूप में की थी. उन्होंने राजाकुमरुडू वर्ष 1999 में एक मुख्य अभिनेता के रूप में अपने कैरियर की शुरुआत की और सर्वश्रेष्ठ पुरुष कलाकर का अपनी पहली फिल्म के लिए राज्य नंदी पुरस्कार भी जीता था.
- अभिनेत्री हंसिका मोटवानी:- आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1991में अभिनेत्री हंसिका मोटवानी का जन्म मुंबई में हुआ था. हंसिका की प्रारम्भिक शिक्षा पोद्दार इंटरनेशनल स्कूल से हुई थी. हंसिका ने फ़िल्म कैरियर की शुरुआत पुरी जगन्नाथ की तेलुगु फ़िल्म, देसमुद्रू से की थी. उन्होंने बॉलीवुड में मुख्य अभिनेत्री के रूप में पहली फ़िल्म हिमेश रेशमिया के साथ आप का सुरूर – द रियल लव स्टोरी थी.
- क्रिकेट टीम का कप्तान:- आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1996 में सचिन तेंदुलकर को भारतीय क्रिकेट टीम का कप्तान चुना गया था.

- साहित्यकार रामकिंकर उपाध्याय:- आज ही के दिन वर्ष 2002 में कथावाचक एवं हिन्दी साहित्यकार रामकिंकर उपाध्याय का निधन हुआ था. उपाध्याय ने 78 वर्षों के अन्तराल में उन्होंने रामचरितमानस पर 49 वर्ष तक लगातार प्रवचन दिये थे.

- Poet Gangadhar Mehre:- On this day in the year 1862, Oriya language poet Gangadhar Mehre was born in a poor weaver family in Barpali village of undivided Sambalpur district and present-day Bargarh district. Gangadhar had learned to compose poetry while making clothes. Gangadhar is also known as Kalidas of Odia language.
- Lord Lytton II:- On this day in the year 1876, Lord Lytton II, the British Governor of Bengal, was born in Shimla, India.
- Librarian S. R. Ranganathan:- On this day in the year 1892, librarian S. R. Ranganathan was born in Shiyali, Madras (present-day Chennai). He was educated at Hindu High School, Shiyali, and Madras Christian College. In 1924, he was made the first librarian of the University of Madras and went to England to study at the University College, London, to qualify for the post. During the years 1945-1947 R. Ranganathan worked as a librarian and professor of library science at Banaras Hindu University and also taught at Delhi University during the years 1947-1954. for library science, R. Ranganathan’s major technical contribution was classification and indexing theory. His colon classification introduced a system that is widely used around the world. This method influenced the development of older methods such as the Dewey Decimal Classification. He also devised the technique of ‘chain indexing’ for subject indexing entries.
- Novelist Shivpujan Sahay:- On this day in the year 1893, novelist Shivpujan Sahay was born in Unwas village, a subdivision of Buxar, Shahabad district (Bihar). In the year 1912 AD, Shivpujan Sahay passed the matriculation examination from a high school in Ara Nagar. Around the year 1921-1922 AD, Shivpujan Sahay edited a monthly magazine called ‘Marwari Sudhar’, which came out from Arrah. The book written by Shivpujan Sahay, ‘Bihar ka Bihar’ presents the geographical and historical description of Bihar province.
