1. राजा घोषित:- आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1658 में मुगल सम्राट औरंगजेब ने स्वयं को मंगोल का राजा घोषित किया था.
2. 9,300 मिलीलीटर बारिश:- आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1861 में असम के चेरापूंजी में 9,300 मिलीलीटर बारिश हुई, जो एक विश्व रिकॉर्ड बन गया था.
3. उपन्यासकार प्रेमचंद:- आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1880 में हिन्दी कहानीकार और उपन्यासकार प्रेमचंद का जन्म उत्तर प्रदेश में वाराणसी के निकट लम्ही गांव में हुआ था. उनका वास्तविक नाम ‘धनपत राय’ था. प्रेमचंद के पिताजी मुंशी अजायब लाल और माता आनन्दी देवी थीं. बचपन में उनकी शिक्षा-दीक्षा लमही में हुई और एक मौलवी साहब से उन्होंने उर्दू और फ़ारसी पढ़ना सीखा. बताते चलें कि, प्रेमचंद उनका साहित्यिक नाम था और बहुत वर्षों बाद उन्होंने यह नाम अपनाया था. प्रेमचंद ने अपनी रचनाओं में जन साधारण की भावनाओं, परिस्थितियों और उनकी समस्याओं का मार्मिक चित्रण किया है. प्रेमचंद हिन्दी सिनेमा के सबसे अधिक लोकप्रिय साहित्यकारों में से हैं. प्रेमचंद की कहानियों पर और भी फ़िल्में बनी हैं, जैसे सत्यजित राय की फ़िल्म शतरंज के खिलाड़ी. मुंशी प्रेमचंद की स्मृति में भारतीय डाक विभाग की ओर से 31 जुलाई, 1980 को उनकी जन्मशती के अवसर पर 30 पैसे मूल्य का एक डाक टिकट जारी किया था.
4. कार्टूनिस्ट के. शंकर पिल्लई:- आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1902 में कार्टूनिस्ट के. शंकर पिल्लई का जन्म कायमकुलम, केरल में हुआ था.
5. गणितज्ञ दामोदर धर्मानंद कोसांबी:- आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1907 में गणितज्ञ दामोदर धर्मानंद कोसांबी का जन्म गोवा में हुआ था. धर्मानंद प्राचीन भारतीय इतिहास के प्रसिद्ध विद्वान, भाषा-वैज्ञानिक और गणितज्ञ माने जाते थे.
6. राजनीतिज्ञ मोहन लाल सुखाड़िया:- आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1916 में राजनीतिज्ञ तथा राजस्थान के मुख्यमंत्री मोहन लाल सुखाड़िया का जन्म राजस्थान के झालावाड़ में हुआ था.
7. क्रिकेटर हेमू आदिकरी:- आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1919 में क्रिकेटर हेमू आदिकरी का जन्म पुणे में हुआ था.
8. रेडियो प्रसारण:- आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1924 में मद्रास प्रेसीडेंसी क्लब ने रेडियो प्रसारण संचालित करने का बीड़ा उठाया था. बताते चलें कि, उसी वर्ष, एक निजी कंपनी – इंडियन ब्रॉडकास्टिंग कंपनी को बॉम्बे और कलकत्ता में रेडियो स्टेशनों के लिए ब्रिटिश सरकार द्वारा लाइसेंस दिया गया था.
9. साबरमती आश्रम छोड़ा:- आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1933 में राष्ट्रपिता महात्मा गांधी ने हमेशा के लिए साबरमती आश्रम छोड़ा था.बताते चलें कि, गांधी ने कसम खाई थी कि, जब तक भारत को आजादी नहीं मिल जाती, वह आश्रम नहीं लौटेंगे. संयोग है कि 15 अगस्त 1947 को हुई थी, जब भारत को एक स्वतंत्र राष्ट्र घोषित किया गया था, वहीं, जनवरी 1948 में गांधी की हत्या कर दी गई जिसके कारण गाँधी कभी वापस नहीं लौटे.
10. स्वतंत्रता सेनानी उधम सिंह:- आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1940 में ब्रिटिश सरकार ने स्वतंत्रता सेनानी उधम सिंह को लंदन के पेंटनविले जेल में फांसी दे दी गई थी.
11. अमरसिंह चौधरी:- आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1941 में गुजरात के आठवें मुख्यमंत्री अमरसिंह चौधरी का जन्म सूरत में हुआ था. अमरसिंह चौधरी गुजरात के पहले आदिवासी मुख्यमंत्री थे.
12. स्वतंत्रता सेनानी आशुतोष दास:- आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1941 में स्वतंत्रता सेनानी आशुतोष दास का निधन हुआ था.
13. अभिनेत्री मुमताज़:- आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1947 में अभिनेत्री मुमताज़ का जन्म मुम्बई के एक मध्यमवर्गीय मुस्लिम परिवार में हुआ था. ज्ञात है कि, मुमताज़ की माँ और चाची फिल्मों में जूनियर आर्टिस्ट थी. मुमताज़ ने जूनियर आर्टिस्ट से स्टार बनने का सपना अपने मन में संजोकर रखा था लेकिन, सत्तर के दशक में मुमताज़ ने स्टार की हैसियत प्राप्त कर ली थी. मुमताज़ ने दारासिंह जैसे पहलवान के साथ 16 फ़िल्में की और ज्यादातर बॉक्स ऑफिस पर सफल भी रही. उसके बाद मुमताज ने राजेश खन्ना के साथ फ़िल्म ‘दो रास्ते’ की जो बॉक्स ऑफिस पर सफलता के नये रिकार्ड बन गए. वर्ष 1969-74 तक इन दोनों कलाकारों ने कई फ़िल्में की जो बॉक्स ऑफिस पर हिट हुई थी. दस साल तक मुमताज़ ने बॉलीवुड के सितारों पर शासन किया था. वर्ष 1990 में फ़िल्मों में किस्मत आजमाने मुमताज़ अपनी दूसरी पारी में आई थीं। शत्रुघ्न सिन्हा के साथ फ़िल्म ‘आँधियाँ’ की, मगर नाकामयाबी मिली.
14. सबसे पहली राज्य परिवहन सेवा:- आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1948 में देश की पहली राज्य परिवहन सेवा पश्चिम बंगाल में (कलकत्ता) राज्य परिवहन निगम की स्थापना हुई थी.
15. शांति और मित्रता संधि:- आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1950 में भारत और नेपाल ने शांति और मित्रता संधि पर हस्ताक्षर किए थे. ज्ञात है कि, दोनों देशों ने शांति और मित्रता संधि पर दस्तखत किए और आरंभ में भारत-नेपाल संबंध इसी संधि पर आधारित थे. संधि पर दस्तखत के बाद भारत ने नेपाल, तिब्बत और भूटान के बीच दरों की निगरानी के लिए 17 चैकियाँ स्थापित कीं थी.
16. अभिनेता मनिवनान:- आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1954 में अभिनेता मनिवनान का जन्म हुआ था.
17. विद्वान श्रीपाद दामोदर सातवलेकर:- आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1968 में बीसवीं शताब्दी के भारतीय सांस्कृतिक में विशेष योगदान देने वाले विद्वान श्रीपाद दामोदर सातवलेकर का निधन हुआ था.
18. पार्श्वगायक मोहम्मद रफ़ी:- आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1980 में पार्श्वगायक मोहम्मद रफ़ी का निधन हुआ था. हिन्दी सिनेमा के श्रेष्ठतम पार्श्वगायकों में से एक थे, जिन्होंने क़रीब 40 साल के फ़िल्मी गायन में 25 हज़ार से अधिक गाने रिकॉर्ड करवाए थे.
19. सितार वादक पंडित रविशंकर:- आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1992 में सितार वादक पंडित रविशंकर मैग्सेसे पुरस्कार से सम्मानित किया गया था.
20. अभिनेत्री किआरा आडवानी:- आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1992 में अभिनेत्री किआरा आडवानी का जन्म मुम्बई के एक सिंधी परिवार में हुआ था. किआरा के बचपन का नाम आलिया आडवाणी था. उनके पिता का नाम जगदीप आडवाणी एवं उनकी माता का नाम जेनेविव जाफरी है. बताते चलें कि, किआरा आडवानी दिग्गज अभिनेता स्वर्गीय अशोक कुमार की पोती हैं. उनकी प्रारम्भिक शिक्षा कैथेड्रल और जॉन कॉनन स्कूल से पूरी की है. उन्होंने स्नातक की शिक्षा जय हिंद कालेज फॉर मास कम्युनिकेशन मुंबई से पूरी की है. किआरा ने अपने फिल्मी कैरियर की शुरुआत फिल्म “फगली” से किया था. कियारा आडवाणी को वास्तविक सफलता भारतीय फिल्मी जगत में वर्ष 2019 में आई फिल्म “कबीर सिंह” से प्राप्त हुई थी.

23. अमेरिकी डॉक्टर सुधीर पारिख:- आज ही के दिन वर्ष 2007 में भारतीय मूल के अमेरिकी डॉक्टर सुधीर पारिख को पाल हैरिस अवार्ड प्रदान किया गया था.
24. यूरी मिलनर फंडामेंटल फिजिक्स प्राइज़:- आज ही के दिन वर्ष 2012 में प्रो. अशोक सेन को पहले यूरी मिलनर फंडामेंटल फिजिक्स प्राइज़ (मौलिक भौतिकी पुरस्कार) के नौ विजेताओं में से एक विजेता घोषित किया गया था. इस पुरस्कार के तौर पर सेन को 30 लाख डॉलर (क़रीब 16.7 करोड़) रुपए मिले थे. बताते चलें कि, शिक्षा के क्षेत्र में यह दुनिया का सबसे बड़ा पुरस्कार है.
25. आर. डी. प्रधान:- आज ही के दिन वर्ष 2020 में पूर्व केंद्रीय गृह सचिव आर. डी. प्रधान का निधन हुआ था.

3. Novelist Premchand:- On this day in the year 1880, Hindi story writer and novelist Premchand was born in Lamhi village near Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh. His real name was ‘Dhanpat Rai’. Premchand’s father was Munshi Ajaib Lal and his mother was Anandi Devi. As a child, he was educated in Lamhi and learned to read Urdu and Farsi from a Maulvi. Let us tell that, Premchand was his literary name and after many years he adopted this name. Premchand has given a poignant depiction of the feelings, situations, and problems of the common people in his works. Premchand is one of the most popular litterateurs of Hindi cinema. Other films have been made on Premchand’s stories, such as Satyajit Ray’s film Shatranj Ke Khiladi. In memory of Munshi Premchand, on July 31, 1980, a postage stamp worth 30 paise was issued by the Indian Postal Department on the occasion of his birth centenary.
