- पहली नौका दौड़:- आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1813 में कलकत्ता (अब कोलकाता) में पहली नौका दौड़ का आयोजन हुआ था.
- दार्शनिक जिम कॉर्बेट:- आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1875 में दार्शनिक जिम कॉर्बेट का जन्म नैनीताल, यूनाइटेड प्रोविंस (अब उत्तराखंड), ब्रिटिश भारत में हुआ था. इनका पूरा नाम जेम्स ए. जिम कार्बेट था. जिम कार्बेट की प्रारम्भिक शिक्षा नैनीताल के ओपनिंग स्कूल से की बाद में सेंट जोसेफ कॉलेज में दाखिला लिया, लेकिन आर्थिक स्थिति ठीक नही होने के कारण पढाई बीच में छोड़कर 18 वर्ष की उम्र में मोकामा घाट (बिहार) जाकर वहाँ रेलवे में नौकरी करने लगे. जिम कार्बेट एक कुशल शिकारी, लेखक और दार्शनिक थे. बताते चलें कि, कुमाऊँ तथा गढ़वाल में जब कोई आदमखोर शेर आ जाता था तो जिम कार्बेट को बुलाया जाता था. जिम कार्बेट वहाँ जाकर सबकी रक्षा कर और आदमखोर शेर को मारकर ही लौटते थे. शिकार-कथाओं के कुशल लेखकों में जिम कार्बेट का नाम विश्व में अग्रणीय है. उनकी ‘माई इण्डिया’ पुस्तक बहुत चर्चित है.
- सामाजिक कार्यकर्ता गणेश वासुदेव जोशी:- आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1880 में सामाजिक कार्यकर्ता गणेश वासुदेव जोशी का निधन हुआ था.
- समीक्षक परशुराम चतुर्वेदी:- आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1894 में समीक्षक परशुराम चतुर्वेदी का जन्म हुआ था. उत्तर प्रदेश के बलिया में हुआ था. उनकी शिक्षा इलाहाबाद तथा वाराणसी विश्वविद्यालय में हुई. वे पेशे से वकील थे, किंतु आध्यात्मिक साहित्य में उनकी गहरी रुचि थी. संस्कृत तथा हिन्दी की अनेक उपभाषाओं के वे पंडित थे.
- संगीतकार सुधीर फड़के:- आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1919 में संगीतकार सुधीर फड़के का जन्म कोल्हापुर, महाराष्ट्र में हुआ था. फड़के मराठी फिल्मों एवं मराठी सुगम संगीत के प्रतीक थे और पाँच दशकों तक इस क्षेत्र में छाए रहे. मराठी के अतिरिक्त उन्होंने हिन्दी फिल्मों के लिए भी संगीत रचना की. उन्होंने शास्त्रीय संगीत पर आधारित गीतों की संगीत संरचना में वे सिद्धहस्त थे.
- गोविन्द नारायण सिंह:- आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1920 में मध्य प्रदेश के भूतपूर्व पाँचवें मुख्यमंत्री गोविन्द नारायण सिंह का जन्म रामपुर बघेलान मध्य प्रदेश में हुआ था. उनके पिता का नाम अवधेश प्रताप सिंह था. गोविन्द ने एमए, एलएलबी की पढ़ाई की और उन्होंने बनारस हिन्दू विश्वविद्यालय से पीएचडी भी किया. वर्ष 1941 में गोविन्द नारायण सिंह क्रांतिकारी गतिविधियों के लिये नजरबन्द कर दिये गए थे. वर्ष 1942 के अगस्त आन्दोलन से वर्ष 1944 तक कारावास काटा. वर्ष 1946 से 1947 के अन्त तक बनारस हिन्दू विश्वविद्यालय में लेक्चरर तथा गवेषणा कार्य भी किया. गोविन्द नारायण सिंह भारतीय राष्ट्रीय कांग्रेस के राजनीतिज्ञ तथा मध्य प्रदेश के भूतपूर्व पाँचवें मुख्यमंत्री थे. उन्होंने 30 जुलाई 1967 से 12 मार्च 1969 तक मध्य प्रदेश के मुख्यमंत्री तथा 26 फ़रवरी, 1988 से 24 जनवरी, 1989 तक बिहार के राज्यपाल रहे थे.
- साहित्यकार श्यामाचरण दुबे:- आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1922 में साहित्यकार श्यामाचरण दुबे का जन्म मध्य प्रदेश के बुंदेलखंड क्षेत्र में हुआ था. उन्होंने नागपुर विश्वविद्यालय से उन्होंने पीएचडी की उपाधि प्राप्त की साथ ही भारत के विभिन्न विश्वविद्यालयों में उन्होंने अध्यापन कार्य भी किया. दुबे की भाषा और शैली पर उनके व्यक्तित्व की स्पष्ट छाप है. उनके विचारों की तरह ही उनकी भाषा भी स्पष्ट और सहज है. तार्किकता का प्रभाव सर्वत्र देखा जा सकता है. दुबे मध्य प्रदेश उच्च शिक्षा अनुदान आयोग’ के सदस्य रहकर उन्होंने विश्वविद्यालय के स्तर पर पाठ्यक्रमों का आधुनिकीकरण करवाया. वर्ष 1993 में उन्हें उनकी कृति ‘परंपरा और इतिहास बोध’ के लिए भारतीय ज्ञानपीठ ने ‘मूर्ति देवी पुरस्कार’ से सम्मानित किया था.
- राजनीतिज्ञ सोमनाथ चटर्जी:- आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1929 में पूर्व लोकसभा अध्यक्ष सोमनाथ चटर्जी का जन्म तेजपुर, असम में हुआ था. उनके पिता का नाम एन.सी. चटर्जी’ और माता का नाम वीणापाणि देवी था. चटर्जी की शिक्षा-दीक्षा कलकत्ता और युनाइटेड किंगडम में हुई थी. उन्होंने स्नातकोत्तर (कैंटब) तथा यू.के. में मिडिल टैंपल से बैरिस्टर-एट-लॉ किया था. चटर्जी ने एक अधिवक्ता के रूप में अपने कैरियर की शुरुआत की तथा वर्ष 1968 में वे भारतीय कम्युनिस्ट पार्टी (मार्क्सवादी) के सदस्य बनने के बाद सक्रिय राजनीति में शामिल हुए. राष्ट्रीय राजनीति में उनका अभ्युदय प्रथम बार वर्ष 1971 में लोक सभा के लिए निर्वाचित होने के साथ हुए थे. संसदीय लोकतंत्र में आबद्धकारी आस्था के साथ सोमनाथ चटर्जी ने साढ़े तीन दशकों तक एक विशिष्ट सांसद के रूप में सेवा की. एक प्रखर वक्ता तथा एक प्रभावी विधायक के रूप में उन्होंने अपने लिए एक अलग स्थान बनाया था. चटर्जी चौदहवीं लोकसभा में पश्चिम बंगाल के बोलपुर लोकसभा क्षेत्र का प्रतिनिधित्व करते थे साथ ही वो लोकसभा के लोकसभा अध्यक्ष भी थे.

- राजनीतिज्ञ एस रामदास:- आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1939 में राजनीतिज्ञ एस रामदास का जन्म कीज़शिविरी, विल्लुपुरम, मद्रास प्रेसीडेंसी, ब्रिटिश भारत में हुआ था.
- साहित्यकार गोदावरीश मिश्र:- आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1956 में साहित्यकार गोदावरीश मिश्र का निधन हुआ था.
- राजनीतिज्ञ हरसिमरत कौर बादल:- आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1966 में राजनीतिज्ञ हरसिमरत कौर बादल का जन्म हुआ था.
- भारत के सातवें राष्ट्रपति:- आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1982 में भारत के सातवें राष्ट्रपति के रूप में ज्ञानी जैल सिंह ने शपथ ली थी. उनका कार्यकाल 25 जुलाई 1982 से 25 जुलाई 1987 रहा था.
- मनमोहन सूरी:- आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1981 में भारतीय यांत्रिक इंजीनियर और केंद्रीय यांत्रिक इंजीनियरिंग अनुसंधान संस्थान, दुर्गापुर के निदेशक मनमोहन सूरी का निधन हुआ था.

- भारत के नौवें राष्ट्रपति एस डी शर्मा:- आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1992 में भारत के नौवें राष्ट्रपति एस डी शर्मा ने शपथ ली थी.
- भारत के दसवें राष्ट्रपति के आर नारायणन:- आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1992 में भारत के नौवें राष्ट्रपति एस डी शर्मा ने ने शपथ ली थी.
- प्रथम महिला राष्ट्रपति प्रतिभा पाटिल:- आज ही के दिन वर्ष 2007 में प्रथम महिला राष्ट्रपति प्रतिभा पाटिल ने भारत के 12 वें राष्ट्रपति के रूप में शपथ ली थी. पाटिल का कार्यकाल 25 जुलाई 2007 – 25 जुलाई 2012 तक था.

Jim Corbett Jim Corbett did his early education at Nainital’s Opening School, later enrolled in St. Joseph’s College, but due to poor economic conditions, left his studies midway and went to Mokama Ghat (Bihar) at the age of 18 and started working in the railway there. He was a lawyer by profession, but he had a deep interest in spiritual literature. He was a scholar of many dialects of Sanskrit and Hindi.
- Musician Sudhir Phadke:- On this day in the year 1919, musician Sudhir Phadke was born in Kolhapur, Maharashtra. Phadke was an icon of Marathi films and Marathi light music and dominated the field for five decades. Apart from Marathi, he also composed music for Hindi films. He was proficient in the musical structure of songs based on classical music.
- Govind Narayan Singh:- On this day in the year 1920, former fifth Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh Govind Narayan Singh was born in Rampur Baghelan, Madhya Pradesh. His father’s name was Awadhesh Pratap Singh. Govind studied MA, and LLB, and also did Ph.D. from Banaras Hindu University. In the year 1941, Govind Narayan Singh was put under house arrest for revolutionary activities. He was imprisoned till the year 1944 for the Augustan movement of the year 1942. From the year 1946 to the end of 1947, he also did lecture and research work at Banaras Hindu University. Govind Narayan Singh was a politician from the Indian National Congress and former fifth Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh. He was the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh from 30 July 1967 to 12 March 1969 and Governor of Bihar from 26 February 1988 to 24 January 1989.
- Writer Shyamacharan Dubey: – On this day in the year 1922, writer Shyamacharan Dubey was born in the Bundelkhand region of Madhya Pradesh. He obtained his Ph.D. from Nagpur University and also did teaching work at various universities in India. Dubey’s language and style bear a clear imprint of his personality. - Politician Somnath Chatterjee:- On this day in the year 1929, former Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee was born in Tezpur, Assam. His father’s name is N.C. Chatterjee’s mother’s name was Veenapani Devi. Chatterjee was educated in Calcutta and the United Kingdom. He has done Post Graduation (Cantab) and U.K. I did Barrister-at-Law from Middle Temple. Chatterjee started his career as a lawyer and joined active politics in 1968 after becoming a member of the Communist Party of India (Marxist). He emerged in national politics for the first time in the year 1971 when he was elected to the Lok Sabha. With an abiding faith in parliamentary democracy, Somnath Chatterjee served as a distinguished parliamentarian for three and a half decades. He had carved a niche for himself as an eloquent orator and an effective legislator. Chatterjee represented the Bolpur Lok Sabha constituency of West Bengal in the 14th Lok Sabha and was also the Speaker of the Lok Sabha.
