- महान विजेता सिकंदर:- आज ही के दिन वर्ष 356: ईसा पूर्व महान विजेता सिकंदर का जन्म प्राचीन ग्रीस के पेला में हुआ था. सिकंदर 20 वर्ष की उम्र में अपने पिता राजा फिलिप द्वितीय के सिंहासन पर बैठा था. अगले 10 वर्षों में सिकंदर ने पश्चिम एशिया और उत्तरी अफ्रीका के बड़े हिस्सों में अभियानों का नेतृत्व किया था.
- अलाउद्दीन खिलजी:- आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1296 में अलाउद्दीन खिलजी ने स्वयं को दिल्ली का सुल्तान घोषित किया था. अलाउद्दीन खिलजी का मूल नाम अली गुर्शप्प था. उसने अपने चाचा और ओहदे में ससुर जलाल-उद-दीन फिरोज खिलजी की हत्या करने के बाद दिल्ली सल्तनत की गद्दी पर बैठा था.
- गणेश वासुदेव जोशी:- आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1820 में गणेश वासुदेव जोशी का जन्म सतारा, महाराष्ट्र में हुआ था. गणेश के पिता ईस्ट इंडिया कंपनी के कर्मचारी थे. किंतु उनका असमय ही निधन हो गया था. जिसके कारण गणेश की औपचारिक शिक्षा केवल मराठी भाषा में ही हो पाई थी. बाद में उन्होंने अंग्रेजी की भी पढ़ाई की. उन्होंने सार्वजनिक क्षेत्र में भी काम करना आरंभ किया और इसी उद्देश्य से वर्ष 1870 ई. में ‘पुणे सार्वजनिक सभा’ की भी स्थापना की थी. इस सभा का उद्देश्य जनता की कठिनाइयों की ओर अंग्रेज़ अधिकारियों का ध्यान आकृष्ट करके उनके निवारण का प्रयत्न करना था.
- साहित्यकार बालकृष्ण भट्ट:- आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1914 में, साहित्यकार बालकृष्ण भट्ट का जन्म प्रयाग (आधुनिक इलाहाबाद) में हुआ था. इनके पिता का नाम पंडित वेणी प्रसाद था. बालकृष्ण की शिक्षा पर बाल्यकाल से ही विशेष ध्यान दिया गया. बालकृष्ण की प्राथमिक शिक्षा संस्कृत में उनके घर पर ही दी गई. करीब 16 वर्ष की अवस्था में बालकृष्ण की माता के आदेशानुसार स्थानीय मिशन के स्कूल में अंग्रेज़ी पढना प्रारंभ किया और दसवीं कक्षा तक अध्ययन किया. मिशन स्कूल छोड़ने के उपरान्त यह पुनः संस्कृत, व्याकरण और साहित्य का अध्ययन करने लगे. बालकृष्ण कुछ समय तक जमुना मिशन स्कूल’ में संस्कृत के अध्यापक भी रहे लेकिन, उन्हें अपने धार्मिक विचारों के कारण नौकरी छोड़नी पड़ी. बालकृष्ण भट्ट का हिन्दी के निबन्धकारों में महत्त्वपूर्ण स्थान है. निबन्धों के प्रारंभिक युग को निःसंकोच भाव से भट्ट युग के नाम से अभिहित किया जा सकता है.
- शारदा देवी:- आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1920 में रामकृष्ण परमहंस की जीवन संगिनी शारदा देवी का निधन हुआ था.
- तबला वादक सामता प्रसाद:- आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1921 में, तबला वादक सामता प्रसाद का जन्म वाराणसी में हुआ था. सामता प्रसाद भारतीय शास्त्रीय संगीतकार तथा तबला वादक थे जिन्हें हम सभी ‘गुदई महाराज’ के नाम से भी जानते हैं. गुदई महाराज बनारस घराने के संगीतकार थे. गुदई महाराज ने अनको हिन्दी फिल्मों में तबला वादन किया था. बताते चलें कि, फ़िल्मों के प्रसिद्ध संगीतकार राहुल देव बर्मन भी सामता प्रसाद के ही शिष्य थे. सामता प्रसाद को भारत सरकार ने वर्ष 1972 में ‘पद्मश्री से सम्मानित किया गया था.
- राजनीतिज्ञ चन्द्रनाथ शर्मा:- आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1922 में असम राज्य के प्रथम असहयोगी और असम में कांग्रेस के संस्थापकों में से एक चन्द्रनाथ शर्मा का निधन हुआ था.
- अभिनेता राजेंद्र कुमार:- आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1929 में अभिनेता राजेंद्र कुमार का जन्म पश्चिम पंजाब के सियालकोट में एक मध्यम वर्गीय परिवार में हुआ था. बचपन से ही राजेंद्र कुमार को अभिनेता बनने का शौक था. उन्होंने अपने सपने को पूरा करने के लिए अपने पिता द्वारा दी गई घड़ी को बेचकर किस्मत आजमाने मुंबई पहुंचे. दिखने में बेहद ही आकर्षक थे राजेंद्र कुमार। उन्होंने ने अपने फ़िल्मी कैरियर की शुरुआत फ़िल्म “जोगन” से की थी. बताते चलें कि, भारतीय फ़िल्म इतिहास में सत्तर के दशक में राजेन्द्र कुमार सबसे सफल अभिनेता साबित हुए थे. राजेंद्र कुमार को फ़िल्मफेयर पुरस्कार के सर्वश्रेष्ठ अभिनेता की श्रेणी में तीन बार नामांकन मिला, लेकिन उन्हें यह पुरस्कार ना मिला सका. वर्ष 1969 में उन्हें ‘पद्म श्री’ से सम्मानित किया गया था.
- अभिनेता नसीरुद्दीन शाह:- आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1950 में अभिनेता नसीरुद्दीन शाह का जन्म उत्तर प्रदेश के बाराबंकी में हुआ था. शाह ने अलीगढ़ मुस्लिम विश्वविद्यालय से स्नातक की पढ़ाई पूरी की उसके बाद उन्होंने नेशनल स्कूल ऑफ ड्रामा में दाखिला लिया. नसीरूद्दीन शाह ने अपने कैरियर की शुरुआत आर्ट फ़िल्म निशांत से की थी. जिसमें उनके साथ स्मिता पाटिल और शबाना आजमी जैसी अभिनेत्रियां थीं. नसीरूद्दीन की फ़िल्मों की सूची में समानांतर और मुख्य धारा की फ़िल्मों का अनूठा संगम देखने को मिलता है. नसीरूद्दीन शाह को वर्ष 1987 में पद्म श्री और वर्ष 2003 में पद्म भूषण से सम्मानित किया गया है.
- क्रांतिकारी बटुकेश्वर दत्त:- आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1965 में क्रांतिकारी बटुकेश्वर दत्त का निधन हुआ था.
- पहली महिला न्यायाधीश अन्ना चांडी:- आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1966 में भारत की पहली महिला न्यायाधीश अन्ना चांडी का निधन हुआ था.
- मुख्यमंत्री कलिखो:- आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1969 में अरुणाचल प्रदेश के भूतपूर्व मुख्यमंत्री कलिखो पुल का जन्म हुआ था.
- पार्श्वगायिका गीता दत्त:- आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1972 में पार्श्वगायिका गीता दत्त का निधन हुआ था.

At the age of about 16, as per the orders of Balakrishna’s mother, he started studying English in the local mission school and studied till class X. - Tabla player Samta Prasad:- On this day in the year 1921, Tabla player Samta Prasad was born in Varanasi. Samta Prasad was an Indian classical musician and tabla player whom we all also know by the name of ‘Gudai Maharaj’. Gudai Maharaj was a musician of Banaras Gharana.
