1. सरदार मान सिंह:- आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1614 में बादशाह अकबर के प्रमुख राजपूत सरदार मान सिंह का निधन हुआ था.
2. भारतीय वनस्पति उद्यान की स्थापना:- आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1787 में पश्चिम बंगाल के शिबपुर में भारतीय वनस्पति उद्यान की स्थापना हुई थी.
3. रामकृष्ण गोपाल भंडारकर:- आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1837 में रामकृष्ण गोपाल भंडारकर का जन्म महाराष्ट्र के रत्नागिरी ज़िले के मालवण नामक स्थान में एक साधारण परिवार में हुआ था. इनके पिता मालवण के मामलेदार के अधीनस्थ मुंशी (क्लर्क) थे. शुरुआती शिक्षा में आयी कठिनाई के बाद जब इनके पिता का स्थानांतरण रत्नागिरी ज़िले के राजस्व विभाग में हुआ तो इन्हें अंग्रेज़ी स्कूल में पढ़ने का मौका मिला.रामकृष्ण गोपाल भण्डारकर ने रत्नागिरी से स्कूली शिक्षा पूरी करके 1853 में मुम्बई के एल्फ़िंस्टन कॉलेज में दाखिला लिया, जहाँ इन्होंने जिन जानी मानी हस्तियों से शिक्षा प्राप्त की, उनमें प्रथम राष्ट्रवादी ‘चिंतक’ और ‘ड्रेन थियरी’ के प्रतिपादक दादाभाई नौरोज़ी प्रमुख थे.रामकृष्ण गोपाल भंडारकर कुछ समय तक सिंध के हैदराबाद और रत्नागिरी के राजकीय विद्यालयों में प्रधानाध्यपक के तौर पर कार्य करने के बाद ये एल्फ़िंस्टन कॉलेज में व्याख्याता पद पर नियुक्त हुए और आगे चल कर पुणे के डेक्कन कॉलेज में संस्कृत के प्रथम भारतीय प्रोफ़ेसर हुए.भंडारकर समाजसुधारक और सार्वजनिक नेता के रूप में भी प्रसिद्ध थे.
4. उन्नायक प्रताप नारायण मिश्र:- आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1894 में हिन्दी खड़ी बोली और ‘भारतेन्दु युग’ के उन्नायक प्रताप नारायण मिश्र का निधन हुआ था.
5. समाजसुधारक श्यामाप्रसाद मुखर्जी:- आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1901 में समाजसुधारक श्यामाप्रसाद मुखर्जी का जन्म कोलकाता के एक बंगाली परिवार में हुआ था. उनकी माता का नाम जोगमाया देवी मुखर्जी था और पिता आशुतोष मुखर्जी बंगाल के एक जाने-माने व्यक्ति और कुशल वकील थे. डॉ. मुखर्जी ने कलकत्ता विश्वविद्यालय से स्नातक की डिग्री प्रथम श्रेणी में वर्ष 1921 में प्राप्त की थी. उन्होंने वर्ष 1923 में एम.ए. और वर्ष 1924 में बी.एल. किया। वर्ष 1923 में ही सीनेट के सदस्य बन गये थे। उन्होंने अपने पिता की मृत्यु के बाद कलकता उच्च न्यायालय में एडवोकेट के रूप में अपना नाम दर्ज कराया. डॉ. मुखर्जी तैंतीस वर्ष की आयु में कलकत्ता विश्वविद्यालय में विश्व के सबसे कम उम्र के कुलपति बनाये गए थे.
6. समाज सुधारक लक्ष्मीबाई केलकर:- आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1905 में समाज सुधारक लक्ष्मीबाई केलकर का जन्म का जन्म नागपुर में हुआ था.14 वर्ष की आयु में उनका विवाह वर्धा के एक विधुर वकील पुरुषोत्तम राव केलकर से हुआ था. रूढ़िग्रस्त समाज से टक्कर लेकर उन्होंने अपने घर में हरिजन नौकर रखे. गांधीजी की प्रेरणा से उन्होंने घर में चरखा मँगाया. एक बार जब गांधीजी ने एक सभा में दान की अपील की, तो लक्ष्मीबाई ने अपनी सोने की जंजीर ही दान कर दी. उन्होंने 1936 में स्त्रियों के लिए ‘राष्ट्र सेविका समिति’ नामक एक नया संगठन प्रारम्भ किया. वर्ष 1945 में राष्ट्र सेविका समिति का पहला राष्ट्रीय सम्मेलन हुआ. देश की स्वतन्त्रता एवं विभाजन से एक दिन पूर्व वे कराची में थीं. उन्होंने सेविकाओं से हर परिस्थिति का मुकाबला करने और अपनी पवित्रता बनाये रखने को कहा साथ ही उन्होंने हिन्दू परिवारों के सुरक्षित भारत पहुँचने के प्रबन्ध भी किये.
7. समाचार पत्र का प्रकाशन:- आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1906 में स्वतंत्रता सेनानी चितरंजन दास और अन्य कांग्रेसी नेताओं ने मिलकर ‘वंदेमातरम्’ समाचार पत्र का प्रकाशन प्रारंभ किया था.
8. पाँचवें लोकसभा अध्यक्ष :- आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1915 में भारत के पाँचवें लोकसभा अध्यक्ष गुरदयाल सिंह ढिल्लों का जन्म पंजाब के अमृतसर ज़िले के पंजवार में हुआ था. उनकी शिक्षा-दीक्षा खालसा कालेज, अमृतसर, गवर्नमेंट कालेज, लाहौर और यूनिवर्सिटी लॉ कालेज, लाहौर में हुई. वर्ष 1937-45 तक की अवधि के दौरान ढिल्लों ने वकालत की और एक सफल वकील के रूप में ख्याति अर्जित की.
9. भूतपूर्व राज्यपाल के. एम. चांडी:- आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1921 में स्वतंत्रता सेनानी तथा गुजरात और मध्य प्रदेश के भूतपूर्व राज्यपाल के. एम. चांडी का जन्म केरल के कोट्टायम ज़िले के पलई नामक नगर में हुआ था. उन्होंने अपनी प्रारम्भिक शिक्षा अपने गृह नगर में और महाविद्यालय की उच्च शिक्षा चंगनाचेरी और ‘गवर्नमेंट आर्ट कॉलेज’, त्रिवेन्द्रम में प्राप्त की थी.
10. सर सुरेन्द्रनाथ बनर्जी:- आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1925 में आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1921 में सर सुरेन्द्रनाथ बनर्जी का निधन हुआ था.
11. पूर्व क्रिकेटर ए. जी. कृपाल सिंह :- आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1933 में पूर्व क्रिकेटर ए. जी. कृपाल सिंह का जन्म हुआ था.
12. धर्मगुरु दलाई लामा:- आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1933 में बौद्ध धर्म के धर्मगुरु दलाई लामा का जन्म हुआ था.
13. पहली बार राष्ट्रपिता कहा:- आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1944 में महात्मा गांधी को पहली बार नेताजी सुभाषचंद्र बोस ने राष्ट्रपिता कहा था.
14. उर्दू के मशहूर शायर अनवर जलालपुरी:- आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1947 में उर्दू के मशहूर शायर अनवर जलालपुरी का जन्म जलालपुर, अम्बेडकर नगर, उत्तर प्रदेश में हुआ था. उनका वास्तविक नाम ‘अनवर अहमद’ था. उन्होंने 1966 में गोरखपुर विश्वविद्यालय से स्नातक किया. इसके बाद 1968 में अलीगढ़ मुस्लिम विश्वविद्यालय से अंग्रेज़ी में और 1978 में अवध विश्वविद्यालय से उर्दू साहित्य में भी एम.ए. किया. अनवर जलालपुरी उर्दू, अरबी, फ़ारसी विश्वविधालय, नीरज शहरयार अवार्ड चयन कमेटी, यूपी राज्य उर्दू कमेटी से भी जुड़े रहे थे. जलालपुरी की ज़िंदगी में यदि परेशानियां कुछ कम रही होतीं तो अदब की दुनिया में उन्होंने और भी बहुत कुछ किया होता. उनकी बेटी की मौत ने उन्हें बहुत परेशान किया था.
15. प्रथम महिला बैरिस्टर:- आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1954 में प्रथम महिला बैरिस्टर कार्नेलिया सोराबजी का निधन हुआ था.
16. अनिल माधब दवे:- आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1956 में पर्यावरण, वन तथा जलवायु परिवर्तन राज्यमंत्री अनिल माधब दवे का जन्म हुआ था.

2. Establishment of the Indian Botanical Garden: – On this day in the year 1787, the Indian Botanical Garden was established in Shibpur, West Bengal.
3. Ramakrishna Gopal Bhandarkar:- On this day in the year 1837, Ramakrishna Gopal Bhandarkar was born in a simple family in Malvan, Ratnagiri district of Maharashtra. His father was a Munshi (clerk) subordinate to Mamledar of Malvan. After difficulties in early education, when his father was transferred to the revenue department of Ratnagiri district, he got an opportunity to study in an English school. After completing his schooling in Ratnagiri, Ramakrishna Gopal Bhandarkar joined the Elphinstone College in Mumbai in 1853, where Dadabhai Naoroji, the first nationalist ‘thinker’ and exponent of ‘drain theory’, was the chief among the well-known personalities from whom he received an education. Ramakrishna Gopal Bhandarkar worked for some time as headmaster of government schools in Hyderabad and Ratnagiri in Sindh. Later, he was appointed as a lecturer at Elphinstone College and later became the first Indian Professor of Sanskrit at Deccan College, Pune. Bhandarkar was also famous as a social reformer and public leader.

5. Social reformer Shyamaprasad Mukherjee: – On this day in the year 1901, social reformer Shyamaprasad Mukherjee was born in a Bengali family in Kolkata. His mother’s name was Jogmaya Devi Mukherjee and his father Ashutosh Mukherjee was a well-known person and skilled lawyer in Bengal. Dr. Mukherjee obtained his bachelor’s degree from Calcutta University in the year 1921 in first class. He did his M.A. in the year 1923. And in the year 1924 B.L. Did. He became a member of the Senate in the year 1923. He enrolled as an advocate in the Calcutta High Court after his father’s death. Dr. Mukherjee was made the world’s youngest Vice-Chancellor of Calcutta University at the age of thirty-three.
6. Social reformer Lakshmibai Kelkar:- On this day in the year 1905, social reformer Lakshmibai Kelkar was born in Nagpur. At the age of 14, she was married to Purushottam Rao Kelkar, a widower lawyer from Wardha. Fighting against the orthodox society, he kept Harijan servants in his house. With the inspiration of Gandhiji, he got a spinning wheel at home. Once when Gandhiji appealed for donation in a meeting, Lakshmibai donated her gold chain. In 1936, he started a new organization called ‘Rashtra Sevika Samiti for women. In the year 1945, the first national convention of Rashtra Sevika Samiti was held. She was in Karachi a day before the independence and partition of the country. He asked the maidservants to face every situation and maintain their purity and also made arrangements for Hindu families to reach India safely.
