1. सरदार वल्लभभाई पटेल: – आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1875 में भारत के पहले गृहमंत्री सरदार वल्लभभाई पटेल का जन्म नाडियाड, गुजरात के एक लेवा पट्टीदार जाति के समृद्ध जमींदार परिवार में हुआ था. उनके पिता का नाम झवेरभाई पटेल और माता का नाम लाड़बाई था. उनकी प्रारम्भिक शिक्षा करमसद में प्राथमिक विद्यालय और पेटलाद स्थित उच्च विद्यालय से पूरी की. वर्ष 1900 में उन्होंने गोधरा में स्वतंत्र ज़िला अधिवक्ता कार्यालय की स्थापना की थी. गृहमंत्री सरदार वल्लभ भाई पटेल ने भारतीय संघ में उन रियासतों का विलय किया, जो स्वयं में संप्रभुता प्राप्त थीं.
2. ऑल इंडिया ट्रेड यूनियन कांग्रेस: – आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1920 में अखिल भारतीय ट्रेड यूनियन कांग्रेस की स्थापना एन. एम. जोशी ने मुंबई में की थी. इसका प्रथम अधिवेशन मुंबई में लाला लाजपत राय की अध्यक्षता में संपन्न हुआ था.
3. ‘फाइबर ऑप्टिक्स के पिता‘ नरिंदर सिंह कपानी: – आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1926 में भारतीय मूल के अमेरिकी भौतिक विज्ञानी नरिंदर सिंह कपानी का जन्म मोगा, पंजाब, अविभाजित भारत में हुआ था. कपानी ने वर्ष 1953 में पहली बार ऑप्टिकल फाइबर के एक बड़े बंडल के माध्यम से अच्छी छवि संचरण प्राप्त किया था. ऑप्टिकल फाइबर को पहले इमेज ट्रांसमिशन के लिए आज़माया गया था. कपानी ने 1960 में साइंटिफिक अमेरिकन के एक लेख में ‘फाइबर ऑप्टिक्स’ शब्द गढ़ा था, जिसमें नए क्षेत्र के बारे में पहली पुस्तक लिखी थी. नरिंदर सिंह कपानी ने ‘फाइबर ऑप्टिक्स’ वाक्यांश गढ़ा था, जिसके बाद उन्हें “फाइबर ऑप्टिक्स के जनक” के रूप में जाना जाता है.
4. राजनीतिज्ञ और केरल के भूतपूर्व मुख्यमंत्री ओमान चांडी: – आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1943 में राजनीतिज्ञ और केरल के भूतपूर्व मुख्यमंत्री ओमान चांडी का जन्म केरल के कोट्टायम जिले के कुमारकोम में हुआ था. उनकी प्रारम्भिक शिक्षा पुथुपपल्ली में सेंट जॉर्ज हाई स्कूल से पूरी  की थी. चांडी ने 1970 से आज तक लगातार सबसे लंबे समय तक विधायक रहने का रिकॉर्ड बनाया था.
5. वैज्ञानिक जी. माधवन नायर: – आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1943 में वैज्ञानिक और ‘इसरो’ के भूतपूर्व अध्यक्ष जी. माधवन नायर का जन्म केरल के तिरुवनंतपुरम में हुआ था. उन्होंने वर्ष 1966 में केरल विश्वविद्यालय से इंजीनियरिंग में स्नातक की उपाधि ग्रहण की और भाभा परमाणु अनुसंधान केंद्र, मुंबई में प्रशिक्षण भी प्राप्त किया था. वर्ष 1967 में उन्होंने ‘थुम्बा भूमध्य रेखीय रॉकेट प्रमोचन केंद्र’ (टर्ल्स) में पदभार ग्रहण किया था. नायर ने अपने छह वर्षों के कार्यकाल के दौरान 25 सफल मिशन पूरे किए थे.
6. असम के 14वें मुख्यमंत्री सर्बानन्द सोनोवाल: – आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1962 में असम के 14वें मुख्यमंत्री सर्बानन्द सोनोवाल का जन्म डिब्रुगढ़ में हुआ था. सोनोवाल के पास छात्र राजनीति का भी व्यापक अनुभव है. वे असम गण परिषद के स्टूडेंट विंग ऑल असम स्टूडेंट यूनियन और पूर्वोत्तर के राज्यों में असर रखने वाले नॉर्थ इस्ट स्टुडेंट्स यूनियन के अध्यक्ष भी रह चुके हैं. केंद्रीय मंत्रिमंडल में उन्हें खेल एवं युवा मामलों के राज्‍यमंत्री (स्‍वतंत्र प्रभार) का पद दिया गया था.
7. संगीतकार और गायक सचिन देव बर्मन: – आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1975 में संगीतकार और गायक सचिन देव बर्मन का निधन मुंबई में हुआ था.
8. क्रिप्टोग्राफर डॉ. देबदीप मुखोपाध्याय: – आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1977 में क्रिप्टोग्राफर डॉ. देबदीप मुखोपाध्याय का जन्म कोलकाता, पश्चिम बंगाल में हुआ था. देबदीप क्रिप्टोग्राफर के रूप में अपनी विशेष पहचान रखते हैं. उन्हें हार्डवेयर सुरक्षा, क्रिप्टोग्राफिक इंजीनियरिंग, क्रिप्टोसिस्टम का डिज़ाइन ऑटोमेशन, क्रिप्टोसिस्टम का वीएलएसआई और क्रिप्टोग्राफी में विशेषज्ञता हासिल है. डॉ. देबदीप मुखोपाध्याय को विज्ञान में उनके योगदान के लिए वर्ष 2021 में ‘शांतिस्वरूप भटनागर पुरस्कार’ प्रदान किया गया था.
9. प्रथम महिला प्रधानमंत्री इन्दिरा गांधी: – आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1984 में भारत की प्रथम महिला प्रधानमंत्री इन्दिरा गांधी का निधन उनके आवास पर तैनात दो सिक्ख अंगरक्षकों ने गोली मारकर हत्या कर दी थी.
10. ब्रज कुमार नेहरू: – आज ही के दिन वर्ष 2001 ब्रज कुमार नेहरू का निधन हिमाचल प्रदेश के कसौली में हुआ था.
11. अफ़्रोएशियन हॉकी चैम्पियनशिप: – आज ही के दिन वर्ष 2003 में हैदराबाद में आयोजित अफ़्रोएशियन हॉकी चैम्पियनशिप में भारत ने पाकिस्तान को 3-1 से हराकर स्वर्ण प्राप्त किया था.
12. उपन्यासकार अमृता प्रीतम: – आज ही के दिन वर्ष 2005 में कवयित्री, उपन्यासकार और निबंधकार अमृता प्रीतम का निधन दिल्ली में हुआ था.
13. व्यंग्यकार व लेखक के. पी. सक्सेना: – आज ही के दिन वर्ष 2013 में व्यंग्यकार व लेखक के. पी. सक्सेना का निधन लखनऊ, उत्तर प्रदेश में हुआ था.
14. राष्ट्रीय एकता दिवस:- आज ही के दिन वर्ष 2014 में 550 से अधिक रियासतों को भारत संघ में एकीकृत करने की उनकी स्मारकीय उपलब्धि का सम्मान करने के लिए इस दिन को राष्ट्रीय एकता दिवस या राष्ट्रीय एकता दिवस के रूप में मनाया जाता है.

1. Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel: – On this day in the year 1875, India’s first Home Minister Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel was born in a prosperous landlord family of a Leva Pattidar caste of Nadiad, Gujarat. His father’s name was Jhaverbhai Patel and mother’s name was Ladbai. He completed his primary education from primary school in Karamsad and high school in Petlad. In the year 1900, he established the independent District Advocate’s Office in Godhra. Home Minister Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel merged those princely states, which were sovereign in their own right, into the Indian Union.
2. All India Trade Union Congress: – On this day in the year 1920, All India Trade Union Congress was established by N. M. Joshi in Mumbai. Its first session was held in Mumbai under the chairmanship of Lala Lajpat Rai.
3. ‘Father of Fiber Optics’ Narinder Singh Kapani: – On this day in the year 1926, Indian-origin American physicist Narinder Singh Kapani was born in Moga, Punjab, undivided India. Kapani first achieved good image transmission through a large bundle of optical fibers in the year 1953. Optical fiber was first used for image transmission. Kapani coined the term ‘fiber optics’ in an article in Scientific American in 1960, writing the first book about the new field. Narinder Singh Kapani coined the phrase ‘fibre optics’, after which he is known as the “Father of Fiber Optics”.
4. Politician and former Chief Minister of Kerala Oman Chandy: – On this day in the year 1943, politician and former Chief Minister of Kerala Oman Chandy was born in Kumarakom in Kottayam district of Kerala. He completed his primary education from St. George’s High School in Puthuppalli. Chandy had made the record of serving as MLA for the longest continuous period from 1970 till date.
5. Scientist G. Madhavan Nair: – On this day in the year 1943, scientist and former chairman of ‘ISRO’ G. Madhavan Nair was born in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. He graduated in engineering from the University of Kerala in 1966 and also received training at the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Mumbai. In the year 1967, he took charge at ‘Thumba Equatorial Rocket Launch Center’ (TURLS). Nair had completed 25 successful missions during his six-year tenure.
6. Sarbananda Sonowal, the 14th Chief Minister of Assam: – On this day in the year 1962, the 14th Chief Minister of Assam, Sarbananda Sonowal, was born in Dibrugarh. Sonowal also has extensive experience in student politics. He has also been the president of All Assam Students Union, the student wing of Assam Gana Parishad and North East Students Union, which has influence in the northeastern states. He was given the post of Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Sports and Youth Affairs in the Union Cabinet.
7. Musician and singer Sachin Dev Burman: – On this day in the year 1975, musician and singer Sachin Dev Burman died in Mumbai.
8. Cryptographer Dr. Debdeep Mukhopadhyay: – On this day in the year 1977, cryptographer Dr. Debdeep Mukhopadhyay was born in Kolkata, West Bengal. Debdeep has a special identity as a cryptographer. He has expertise in Hardware Security, Cryptographic Engineering, Design Automation of Cryptosystems, VLSI of Cryptosystems and Cryptography. Dr. Debdeep Mukhopadhyay was awarded the ‘Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Award’ in the year 2021 for his contribution to science.
9. First woman Prime Minister Indira Gandhi: – On this day in the year 1984, India’s first woman Prime Minister Indira Gandhi died. She was shot dead by two Sikh bodyguards posted at her residence.
10. Braj Kumar Nehru: – On this day in the year 2001, Braj Kumar Nehru died in Kasauli, Himachal Pradesh.
11. Afro-Asian Hockey Championship: – On this day in the year 2003, India won the gold by defeating Pakistan 3-1 in the Afro-Asian Hockey Championship held in Hyderabad.
12. Novelist Amrita Pritam: – On this day in the year 2005, poetess, novelist and essayist Amrita Pritam died in Delhi.
13. Satirist and writer K. P. Saxena: – On this day in the year 2013, satirist and writer K. P. Saxena died in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh.
14. National Unity Day: – On this day, this day is celebrated as National Unity Day or Rashtriya Ekta Diwas to honor his monumental achievement of integrating more than 550 princely states into the Union of India in the year 2014.
