- स्वतंत्रता सेनानी श्यामजी कृष्ण वर्मा: – आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1857 में स्वतंत्रता सेनानी श्यामजी कृष्ण वर्मा का जन्म गुजरात के मांडवी गांव में हुआ था. स्वामी दयानंद सरस्वती के सान्निध्य में रहकर मुखर हुए संस्कृत व वेदशास्त्रों के मूर्धन्य विद्वान के रूप में प्रतिष्ठा प्राप्त श्यामजी कृष्ण वर्मा वर्ष 1885 में तत्कालीन रतलाम राज्य के वर्ष 1889 तक दीवान पद पर आसीन रहे थे. उन्होंने अपना सारा जीवन भारत की स्वतन्त्रता के लिए माहौल बनाने में और नवयुवकों को प्रेरित करने में लगाया था.
- साहित्यकार रामचन्द्र शुक्ल: – आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1884 में साहित्यकार रामचन्द्र शुक्ल का जन्म बस्ती ज़िले के अगोना नामक गाँव में हुआ था. रामचन्द्र के पिता ने शिक्षा के क्षेत्र में इन पर उर्दू और अंग्रेज़ी पढ़ने के लिए ज़ोर दिया था लेकिन, पिता की आँख बचाकर वे हिन्दी भी पढ़ते रहे. वर्ष 1901 ई. में उन्होंने मिशन स्कूल से स्कूल फ़ाइनल की परीक्षा उत्तीर्ण की तथा प्रयाग के कायस्थ पाठशाला इण्टर कॉलेज में एफ़.ए. (बारहवीं) पढ़ने के लिए आये थे. परीक्षाओं की सफलता या असफलता से अलग वे बराबर साहित्य, मनोविज्ञान, इतिहास आदि के अध्ययन में लगे रहे थे. शुक्ल जी ने हिन्दी साहित्य का इतिहास लिखा, जिसमें काव्य प्रवृत्तियों एवं कवियों का परिचय भी है और उनकी समीक्षा भी लिखी है.
- मध्य प्रदेश की भूतपूर्व राज्यपाल सरला ग्रेवाल: – आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1927 में मध्य प्रदेश की भूतपूर्व राज्यपाल सरला ग्रेवाल का जन्म हुआ था. अपनी प्रारम्भिक शिक्षा पूरी करने के बाद उन्होंने आनर्स में स्नातक की उपाधि प्राप्त की थी. वर्ष 1952 में सरला ग्रेवाल ने ‘भारतीय प्रशासनिक सेवा’ में प्रवेश किया उस वक्त इस सेवा में आने वाली भारत की दूसरी महिला अधिकारी थीं. वर्ष 1985 को सरला ग्रेवाल प्रधानमंत्री की सचिव नियुक्त हुईं थीं. इसके बाद वो मध्य प्रदेश की राज्यपाल मनोनीत हुईं थीं.
- पार्श्वगायिका संध्या मुखर्जी: – आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1931 में पार्श्वगायिका संध्या मुखर्जी का जन्म ढकुरिया, कलकत्ता (वर्तमान कोलकाता) में नरेंद्रनाथ मुखोपध्याय के घर हुआ था. उन्होंने गायन की प्रारंभिक शिक्षा प्रोफेसर ए. टी. कनन, पंडित सन्तोष कुमार बसु एवं प्रोफेसर चिन्मोय लहरी से ग्रहण की थी साथ ही भारतीय शास्त्रीय संगीत की शिक्षा दीक्षा उस्ताद बड़े गुलाम अली ख़ाँ से ली थी. संध्या ने पार्श्वगायिका के कैरियर की शुरुआत बंगाली गाने से की थी. उन्होंने हिंदी गाने के कैरियर की शुरुआत वर्ष 1950 में फिल्म ‘ताराना’ के लिए गाया था. ‘बंग्लादेश लिबरेशन वॉर’ के दौरान संध्या मुखर्जी ने जन आन्दोलन में भाग लिया एवं सेकड़ों शरणार्थियों के लिए सरकारी मदद का आवाहन किया था. संध्या मुखर्जी को बंगाल का सर्वोच्च नागरिक सम्मान ‘बंगा विभुषण’ से नवाजा गया था.
- डेविस कप में भाग लेने से इनकार किया: – आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1974 में भारत ने दक्षिण अफ्रिका की सरकार की रंभेदी नीति का प्रतिरोध करने के लिए वहाँ जाकर डेविस कप में भाग लेने से इनकार कर दिया था.

- कस्तूरी बाई: – आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1979 में माखनलाल चतुर्वेदी की बहन कस्तूरी बाई का निधन हुआ था.

- Freedom fighter Shyamji Krishna Verma: – On this day, in the year 1857, freedom fighter Shyamji Krishna Verma was born in Mandvi village of Gujarat. Shyamji Krishna Verma, who became vocal after living in the company of Swami Dayanand Saraswati and got a reputation as a prominent scholar of Sanskrit and Vedas, held the post of Diwan of the then Ratlam State in the year 1885 till 1889. He spent his entire life in creating an environment for India’s independence and inspiring the youth.
- Litterateur Ramchandra Shukla: – On this day in the year 1884, litterateur Ramchandra Shukla was born in a village named Agona in Basti district. Ramchandra’s father had insisted he study Urdu and English in the field of education, but to protect his father’s eyes, he kept studying Hindi also. In the year 1901 AD, he passed the school final examination from Mission School and did his F.A. from Kayastha Pathashala Inter College, Prayag. Came to study (12th). Irrespective of success or failure in examinations, he was equally engaged in the study of literature, psychology, history etc. Shukla ji wrote the history of Hindi literature, which also contains an introduction to poetic trends and poets and also wrote a review of them.

After completing his primary education, he obtained a bachelor’s degree in Honors. In the year 1952, Sarla Grewal entered the ‘Indian Administrative Service’, at that time she was the second woman officer of India to join this service. In the year 1985, Sarla Grewal was appointed Secretary to the Prime Minister. After this, she was nominated as the Governor of Madhya Pradesh.

He received his initial education in singing from Professor A. T. Kanan, Pandit Santosh Kumar Basu and Professor Chinmoy Lahiri and also took initiation into Indian classical music from Ustad Bade Ghulam Ali Khan.
