- सार्वजनिक कार्यकर्ता सर सुंदर लाल:- आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1857 में प्रसिद्ध विधिवेत्ता और सार्वजनिक कार्यकर्ता सर सुंदर लाल का जन्म उत्तरांचल के नैनीताल जिले के जसपुर नामक स्थान पर हुआ था.उन्होंने पहले वकालत की परीक्षा पास की और फिर कोलकाता विश्वविद्यालय से स्नातक करने के बाद वकालत करने लगे.अपनी प्रतिभा के बल पर उन्होंने इस क्षेत्र में शीघ्र ही बड़ी सफलता अर्जित कर ली. सरकार ने उन्हें ‘सर’ की उपाधि दी थी.सर सुंदर लाल अवध के ज्यूडिशियल कमिश्नर और इलाहाबाद हाईकोर्ट के जज रहे. वर्ष 1916 में काशी हिंदू विश्वविद्यालय के प्रथम वाइस चांसलर बने. इस विश्वविद्यालय की स्थापना में वे मालवीय जी के बड़े सहायक थे. हिन्दू आचार-विचार में निष्ठा रखने वाले सर सुंदर लाल संवैधानिक तरीकों से देश की स्वतंत्रता के समर्थक थे. वे देश की समृद्धि के लिए औद्योगीकरण को आवश्यक मानते थे और शिक्षा प्रसार को उन्नति का साधन समझते थे.
