- वैज्ञानिक और निर्माता मोक्षगुंडम विश्वेश्वरैया: – आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1861 में मोक्षगुंडम विश्वेश्वरैया का जन्म मैसूर (जो कि अब कर्नाटक में है) के ‘मुद्देनाहल्ली’ नामक स्थान पर एक गरीब परिवार में हुआ था. उनके पिता वैद्य थे. विश्वेश्वरैया का बाल्यकाल बहुत ही आर्थिक संकट में व्यतीत हुआ था. विश्वेश्वरैया ने अपनी प्रारम्भिक शिक्षा गांव के प्राइमरी स्कूल से प्राप्त की.विश्वेश्वरैया जब केवल 14 वर्ष के थे, तभी उनके पिता की मृत्यु हो गई थी. आगे की शिक्षा उन्होंने बैंगलोर में अपने रिश्तेदारों के घर रहकर और अपने से छोटे बच्चों को ट्यूशन पढ़ा कर किसी तरह बड़े प्रयास से अपना अध्ययन ज़ारी रखा. करीब 19 वर्ष की आयु में बैंगलोर के कॉलेज से उन्होंने बी.ए. की परीक्षा प्रथम श्रेणी में उत्तीर्ण की साथ ही वहां के प्रिंसिपल के प्रयास से उन्हें पूना के इंजीनियरिंग कॉलेज में प्रवेश मिल गया. अपनी शैक्षिक योग्यता के बल पर उन्होंने छात्रवृत्ति प्राप्त करने के साथ साथ पूरे मुम्बई विश्वविद्यालय में सर्वोच्च अंक प्राप्त कर इंजीनियरिंग की डिग्री प्राप्त की. इसी सफलता के आधार पर उन्हें मुम्बई में असिस्टैंट इंजीनियर के पद पर नियुक्ति मिली थी. विश्वेश्वरैया को वर्ष 1955 में भारत रत्न से सम्मानित किया गया था.
- साहित्यकार शरतचंद्र चट्टोपाध्याय: – आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1876 में साहित्यकार शरतचंद्र चट्टोपाध्याय का जन्म हुगली जिले के देवानन्दपुर में हुआ था. वो अपने माता-पिता के 09 वीं संतानों में से एक थे.उनका बाल्यकाल देवानन्दपुर में तथा कैशोर्य भागलपुर में व्यतीत हुआ था. शरतचंद्र बांग्ला के सबसे लोकप्रिय उपन्यासकार हैं. उनकी रचनाओं में तत्कालीन बंगाल के सामाजिक जीवन की झलक मिलती है.
- साहित्यकार डॉ. रामकुमार वर्मा: – आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1905 में साहित्यकार डॉ. रामकुमार वर्मा का जन्म मध्य प्रदेश के सागर ज़िले में हुआ था. इनके पिता लक्ष्मी प्रसाद वर्मा डिप्टी कलक्टर थे जबकि इनकी माता राजरानी देवी कवयित्री थी. रामकुमार वर्मा आधुनिक हिन्दी साहित्य के सुप्रसिद्ध कवि, एकांकी नाटक-लेखक और आलोचक हैं.
- राजनीतिज्ञ सी. एन. अन्नादुराई: – आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1909 में तमिलनाडु के भूतपूर्व मुख्यमंत्री सी. एन. अन्नादुराई का जन्म ब्रिटिशकालीन मद्रास (वर्तमान चेन्नई) के निकट कांचीपुरम, तमिलनाडु में हुआ था. इनके पिता का नाम नटराजन एवं माता बांगरु अम्मल थीं. बताते चलें कि, मद्रास राज्य का नामकरण ‘तमिलनाडु’ करने का श्रेय भी अन्नादुराई को ही जाता है.
- लांस नायक करम सिंह: – आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1915 में परमवीर चक्र सम्मानित भारतीय सैनिक लांस नायक करम सिंह का जन्म पंजाब के संगरूर ज़िले के भालियाँ वाले गाँव में हुआ था.
- साहित्यकार द्विजेन्द्रनाथ मिश्र ‘निर्गुण’: – आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1915 में साहित्यकार द्विजेन्द्रनाथ मिश्र ‘निर्गुण का जन्म बदायूँ, उत्तर प्रदेश) में हुआ था.

- समझौता: – आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1931 में गांधी-इरविन के बीच समझौता हुआ था. ज्ञात है की इस समझौते के तहत राजनीतिक बंदियों की रिहाई के साथ-साथ भारतीयों को समुद्र किनारे नमक बनाने का अधिकार मिला था साथ ही शराब और विदेशी कपड़ों की दुकानों के सामने धरना देने की आजादी भी मिलीथी. आंदोलन के दौरान त्यागपत्र देने वालों को पुन: बहाल किया गया सात ही जब्त संपत्ति भी वापस की गई थी.
- स्वतंत्र भारत का पहला ध्वजपोत आईएनएस: – आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1948 में स्वतंत्र भारत का पहला ध्वजपोत आईएनएस बंबई (अब मुंबई) के बंदरगाह पर पहुंचा था.
- राष्ट्रीय प्रसारण सेवा दूरदर्शन: – आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1959 में भारत की राष्ट्रीय प्रसारण सेवा दूरदर्शन की शुरुआत हुई थी.

- Scientist and producer Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya: – On this day in the year 1861, Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya was born in a poor family at a place called ‘Muddenahalli’ in Mysore (which is now in Karnataka). His father was a physician. Visvesvaraya’s childhood was spent in great economic crisis. Visvesvaraya received his early education from the village primary school. His father died when Visvesvaraya was only 14 years old. Further education: He somehow continued his studies with great effort by staying at his relatives’ house in Bangalore and giving tuition to his younger children. At the age of 19, he completed his B.A. from Bangalore College. He passed the B.Sc. examination in the first division and with the efforts of the principal there, he got admission in the Engineering College of Poona. On the strength of his educational qualifications, he received a scholarship and obtained an engineering degree by securing the highest marks in the entire Mumbai University. On the basis of this success, he was appointed to the post of Assistant Engineer in Mumbai. Visvesvaraya was awarded Bharat Ratna in the year 1955.
