1. खोजी नाविक वास्कोडिगामा:- आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1498 में पुर्तगाल का प्रसिद्ध खोजी नाविक वास्कोडिगामा पहली बार कालीकट के निकट पहुंचा. कोलंबस की यात्रा के करीब 5 साल बाद पुर्तगाल के नाविक वास्को डा गामा जुलाई 1498 में भारत का समुद्री मार्ग खोजने निकले. वास्को डी गामा ने समुद्र के रास्ते कालीकट पहुंचकर यूरोपावासियों के लिये भारत पहुंचने का एक नया मार्ग खोज लिया था.
2. शेरशाह ने हुमांयू को हराया:- आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1540 को हरदोई में हुई कन्नौज की लड़ाई में शेरशाह ने हुमांयू को हराया था. कन्नौज का युद्ध मई 1540 ईस्वी में हुमायूं और शेरशाह के बीच लड़ा गया था. इस लड़ाई ने मुग़लों और शेरशाह सूरी के बीच मामले का फैसला कर दिया. इस युद्ध के बाद बादशाह हुमायूं बिना राज्य का राजा था और काबुल तथा कंधार कामरान के हाथों में थे. कन्नौज के युद्ध को ‘बिलग्राम का युद्ध’ भी कहा जाता है.
3. बुनकरों पर कई तरह के प्रतिबंध:- आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1769 में ईस्ट इंडिया कंपनी ने बंगाल के कपड़ा उद्योग को बर्बाद करने के लिए बुनकरों पर कई तरह के प्रतिबंध लगाए थे.
4. ब्रजभाषा के कवि एवं इतिहासकार और लेखक धीरेन्द्र वर्मा:- आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1897 में हिन्दी तथा ब्रजभाषा के कवि एवं इतिहासकार और लेखक धीरेन्द्र वर्मा का जन्म बरेली (उत्तर प्रदेश) में ज़मींदार परिवार में हुआ था. उनके पिता का नाम खानचंद था. धीरेन्द्र वर्मा इलाहाबाद विश्वविद्यालय के प्रथम हिन्दी विभागाध्यक्ष थे. धर्मवीर भारती ने उनके ही मार्गदर्शन में अपना शोधकार्य किया.जो कार्य हिन्दी समीक्षा के क्षेत्र में आचार्य रामचन्द्र शुक्ल ने किया, वही कार्य हिन्दी शोध के क्षेत्र में डॉ॰ धीरेन्द्र वर्मा ने किया था.धीरेन्द्र वर्मा जहाँ एक तरफ़ हिन्दी विभाग के उत्कृष्ट व्यवस्थापक रहे, वहीं दूसरी ओर एक आदर्श प्राध्यापक भी थे.भारतीय भाषाओं से सम्बद्ध समस्त शोध कार्य के आधार पर उन्होंने वर्ष 1933 में हिन्दी भाषा का प्रथम वैज्ञानिक इतिहास लिखा था. फ्रेंच भाषा में उनका ब्रजभाषा पर शोध प्रबन्ध है, जिसका अब हिन्दी अनुवाद हो चुका है.वर्ष 1959 में डॉ॰ धीरेंद्र वर्मा हिंदी विश्वकोश के प्रधान संपादक नियुक्त हुए और डेढ़ वर्षों की अल्पावधि में ही विश्वकोश का प्रथम खंड वर्ष 1960 में प्रकाशित हुआ.
5. रूसी मोदी:- आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1918 में भारत के प्रसिद्ध उद्योगपति तथा टाटा समूह के शीर्ष सदस्य रूसी मोदी का जन्म हुआ था.
6. क्रिकेटर बी० एस० चंद्रशेखर:- आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1945 में भारतीय क्रिकेटर बी० एस० चंद्रशेखर का जन्म मैसूर में हुआ था. इनका पूरा नाम भागवत सुब्रमणय चंद्रशेखर है.बी० एस० चंद्रशेखर अपने समय में मुख्य रूप से अपनी गेंदबाजी के लिए जाने जाते थे जो दाहिने हाथ से लेग ब्रेक करते थे.अपने कैरियर में इन्होंने 58 टेस्ट क्रिकेट मैचों में कुल 242 विकेट लिए थे जिसमें 16 बार किसी पारी में 05 या इससे ज्यादा विकेट चटकाए थे साथ ही, इन्होंने दो बार मैच में 10 विकेट भी लिए, तो एकमात्र वनडे मैच में इन्होंने 03 विकेट चटके थे.बी० एस० चंद्रशेखर ने पहला टेस्ट मैच इंग्लैंड क्रिकेट टीम के खिलाफ 21 जनवरी 1964 में खेला था और आखिरी मैच भी इंग्लैंड के खिलाफ 12 जुलाई 1979 को खेला था.
7. गजल गायक पंकज उधास:- आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1951 में मशहूर गजल गायक पंकज उधास का जन्म गुजरात में राजकोट के पास जैतपुर में एक ज़मींदार परिवार में हुआ था.उनके पिता का नाम केशूभाई उधास और माँ का नाम जीतूबेन उधास है.उनके सबसे बड़े भाई मनहर उधास ने बॉलीवुड में हिंदी पार्श्व गायक के रूप में कुछ सफलता प्राप्त की थी वहीं , दूसरे बड़े भाई निर्मल उधास भी एक प्रसिद्ध गज़ल गायक हैं. तीनों भाइयों में से सबसे पहले गायिकी का काम पंकज उधास ने ही शुरू किया था.पहली बार वर्ष 1972 में फिल्म कामना में अपनी आवाज दी जो कि एक असफल फिल्म रही थी. उसके बाद उन्होंने ग़ज़ल गायन में रुचि विकसित की और ग़ज़ल गायक के रूप में अपना करियर बनाने के लिए उन्होंने उर्दू भी सीखी. सफलता न मिलने के बाद वे कनाडा चले गए और वहां तथा अमेरिका में छोटे-मोटे कार्यक्रमों में ग़ज़ल गायिकी करके अपना समय बिताने के बाद पुन: भारत वापस आ गए. उनकी पहली ग़ज़ल एल्बम आहट वर्ष 1980 में रिलीज़ हुआ था जिसकी सफलता के बाद वर्ष 2009 तक 40 एल्बम रिलीज़ कर चुके हैं. वर्ष 1985 में सर्वश्रेष्ठ गज़ल गायक होने के लिए के एल सहगल एवार्ड से सम्मानित किया गया था. वर्ष 2006 में पंकज उधास को ग़ज़ल गायकी के करियर में सिल्वर जुबली पूरा करने के उपलक्ष्य में पद्मश्री पुरस्कार से सम्मानित किया गया था.
8. अभिनेत्री प्रीति गांगुली:- आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1953 में हिंदी सिनेमा की चरित्र अभिनेत्री प्रीति गांगुली का जन्म मुम्बई (महाराष्ट्र) में हुआ था. उनके पिता का नाम अशोक कुमार (फ़िल्म अभिनेता) और माता का नाम शोभा देवी है जबकि, उनके चाचा का नाम गायक किशोर कुमार और अभिनेता अनूप कुमार है. उन्होंने 1970-80 के दशक में बॉलीवुड में कई कॉमिक भूमिकाएं निभाई थीं. वर्ष 1983 में उन्होंने अपने पिता ‘अशोक कुमार की अकादमी ऑफ़ नाटक कला’ के नाम पर एक अभिनय स्कूल की शुरुआत की थी.
9. अभिनेत्री चार्मी कौर:- आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1987 में अभिनेत्री चार्मी कौर का जन्म एक सिख परिवार में मुम्बई में हुआ था.चार्मी कौर मुख्यत: तेलुगू सिनेमा के लिए काम करती है. उन्होंने अपने कैरियर की शुरुआत 13 साल की उम्र में नी तोडू कावली नाम की तेलुगू फ़िल्म से की थी.चार्मी की पहली हिन्दी फ़िल्म है बुड्ढा होगा तेरा बाप.
10. टेस्ट क्रिकेट से संन्यास:- आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1987 में सुनील गावस्कर ने टेस्ट क्रिकेट से संन्यास लिया.
11. नीतीश मंत्रीमण्डल से इस्तीफ़ा:- आज ही के दिन वर्ष 2008 में बिहार के परिवहन मंत्री रामानन्द प्रताप सिंह ने नीतीश मंत्रीमण्डल से इस्तीफ़ा दिया था.
12. अभिनेता प्रकाश मेहरा:- आज ही के दिन वर्ष 2009 में अभिनेता प्रकाश मेहरा का निधन निमोनिया और दूसरी बीमारियों के कारण मुंबई में हो गया था.
13. कॉमनवेल्थ बॉक्सिंग चैंपियनशिप:- आज ही के दिन वर्ष 2010 में भारतीय बॉक्सरों ने कॉमनवेल्थ बॉक्सिंग चैंपियनशिप के सभी 06 स्वर्ण पदक जीत कर इतिहास रच दिया. इस प्रतियोगिता में सर्वश्रेष्ठ बॉक्सर का अवार्ड विजेंद्र कुमार को मिला.मेज़बान भारत ने सर्वाधिक 36 अंक लेकर टीम चैंपियनशिप भी जीती वहीं, गत विजेता इंग्लैंड 34 अंक के साथ दूसरे स्थान पर रहा.
14. पारंपरिक खेल कबड्डी:- आज ही के दिन वर्ष 2010 में देश के सबसे पुराने पारंपरिक खेल कबड्डी को बढावा देते हुए पंजाब सरकार ने अगले महीने कबड्डी विश्वकप का आयोजन करने की घोषणा की.
15. विकलांगता संबंधी अधिनियमों:- आज ही के दिन वर्ष 2010 में पंजाब एवं हरियाणा उच्च न्यायालय के जस्टिस एमएम कुमार व जस्टिस जतिंदर चौहान की खंडपीठ ने जोगिंदर कौर की याचिका पर पीजीआई चंडीगढ़ को विकलांगता संबंधी अधिनियमों की अनदेखी का दोषी ठहराते हुए कहा- ‘नौकरी पर रहते विकलांगता को आधार बनाकर किसी कर्मचारी को मिलने वाले सेवा लाभ से वंचित नहीं किया जा सकता. ऐसी परिस्थितियों में उसे समान लाभ वाले पद पर रखा जा सकता है.’
16. प्रक्षेपास्त्र का परीक्षण:- आज ही के दिन वर्ष 2010 में भारतीय सेना ने उड़ीसा के व्हीलर्स द्वीप स्थित इंटीग्रेटेड टेस्ट रेंज (आइटीआर) से परमाणु हमला करने में सक्षम ‘अग्नि-2′ प्रक्षेपास्त्र का परीक्षण किया. यह मिसाइल दो हजार किलोमीटर तक मार कर सकती है.’अग्नि-2’ का विकास रक्षा विकास और अनुसंधान संगठन [डीआरडीओ] की प्रयोगशालाओं और भारत डायनेमिक्स, हैदराबाद के साथ किया गया है.
17. फोटोग्राफर बेनू सेन:- आज ही के दिन वर्ष 2011 को फोटोग्राफर बेनू सेन का निधन हो गया था.
18. होटल लीला समूह:- आज ही के दिन वर्ष 2014 में भारत के प्रसिद्ध होटल उद्योगपति तथा ‘होटल लीला समूह’ के संस्थापक सी.पी.कृष्णन नायर का निधन 92 वर्ष की आयु में मुम्बई (महाराष्ट्र) में हुआ था.
19. बीएस येदियुरप्पा:- आज ही के दिन वर्ष 2018 को बीएस येदियुरप्पा ने तीसरी बार कर्नाटक के मुख्यमंत्री पद की शपथ ली.

1. Explorer Vasco da Gama: – On this day in the year 1498, the famous explorer Vasco da Gama of Portugal reached near Calicut for the first time. About 5 years after the voyage of Columbus, Portuguese sailor Vasco da Gama set out in July 1498 to find the sea route to India. Vasco da Gama discovered a new way for the Europeans to reach India by reaching Calicut by sea.
2. Sher Shah defeated Humayun: – On this day in the year 1540, Sher Shah defeated Humayun in the battle of Kannauj in Hardoi. The battle of Kannauj was fought between Humayun and Sher Shah in May 1540 AD. This battle decided the matter between the Mughals and Sher Shah Suri. After this war, Emperor Humayun was the king without a kingdom, and Kabul and Kandahar were in the hands of Kamran. The battle of Kannauj is also known as the ‘Battle of Bilgram’.
3. Many types of restrictions on weavers:- On this day in the year 1769, the East India Company imposed many types of restrictions on weavers to ruin the textile industry of Bengal.
4. Poet and historian and writer of Brajbhasha Dhirendra Verma:- On this day in the year 1897, Hindi and Brajbhasha poet and historian and writer Dhirendra Verma was born in Bareilly (Uttar Pradesh) in a Zamindar family. His father’s name was Khanchand. Dhirendra Verma was the first Head of the Hindi Department of Allahabad University. Dharamveer Bharti did his research work under his guidance. The work done by Acharya Ramchandra Shukla in the field of Hindi review was done by Dr. Dhirendra Verma in Hindi research. On the other hand, he was also an ideal professor. Based on all the research work related to Indian languages, he wrote the first scientific history of the Hindi language in the year 1933. He has a dissertation on Brajbhasha in the French language, which has now been translated into Hindi. In the year 1959, Dr. Dhirendra Verma was appointed the editor-in-chief of the Hindi Encyclopedia and within a short span of one and a half years, the first volume of the Encyclopedia was published in the year 1960.
5. Russi Modi: – On this day in the year 1918, Russi Modi, a famous industrialist of India and a top member of the Tata group, was born.
6. Cricketer BS Chandrasekhar:- On this day in the year 1945, Indian cricketer BS Chandrasekhar was born in Mysore. His full name is Bhagwat Subramaniam Chandrasekhar. B.S. Chandrasekhar was mainly known for his bowling in his time, which used to break his leg with his right hand. In his career, he took a total of 242 wickets in 58 Test cricket matches, in which 16 times Had taken 05 or more wickets in an inning, as well as, he also took 10 wickets in the match twice, then took 03 wickets in the only one-day match. BS Chandrasekhar made his first Test match against the England cricket team on 21 January 1964. Played and the last match was also played against England on 12 July 1979.
7. Ghazal singer Pankaj Udhas:- On this day in the year 1951, famous Ghazal singer Pankaj Udhas was born in a Zamindar family at Jaitpur near Rajkot in Gujarat. His father’s name is Keshubhai Udhas and his mother’s name is Jituben Udhas. His eldest brother Manhar Udhas achieved some success as a Hindi playback singer in Bollywood, while the other elder brother Nirmal Udhas is also a famous ghazal singer. Pankaj Udhas was the first of the three brothers to start singing. For the first time in the year 1972, he gave his voice in the film Kamna, which was an unsuccessful film. After that, he developed an interest in Ghazal singing and also learned Urdu to pursue a career as a Ghazal singer. After not getting success, he went to Canada and came back to India after spending his time singing ghazals in small programs there and in America. His first ghazal album Aahat was released in the year 1980, after the success of which he released 40 albums till the year 2009. In the year 1985, he was awarded the KL Saigal Award for being the best Ghazal singer. In the year 2006, Pankaj Udhas was awarded the Padma Shri award to mark the completion of the Silver Jubilee in Ghazal’s singing career.
8. Actress Preeti Ganguly:- On this day in the year 1953, Hindi cinema character actress Preeti Ganguly was born in Mumbai (Maharashtra). His father’s name is Ashok Kumar (film actor) and his mother’s name is Shobha Devi, while his uncle’s name is singer Kishore Kumar and actor Anoop Kumar. He played many comic roles in Bollywood in the 1970s-80s. In the year 1983, he started an acting school named after his father ‘Ashok Kumar’s Academy of Drama Art’.
9. Actress Charmy Kaur: – On this day in the year 1987, actress Charmy Kaur was born in a Sikh family in Mumbai. Charmy Kaur mainly works for Telugu cinema. She started her career at the age of 13 with the Telugu film Nee Todu Kavali. Charmy’s first Hindi film was Budha Hoga Tera Baap.

Vijender Kumar won the best boxer award in this competition. Host India also won the team championship with 36 points, while defending champions England came second with 34 points.
14. Traditional game Kabaddi:- On this day in the year 2010, promoting the country’s oldest traditional game Kabaddi, the Punjab government announced organizing Kabaddi World Cup next month.

Disability-related Acts:- On this day in the year 2010, the division bench of Justice MM Kumar and Justice Jatinder Chauhan of Punjab and Haryana High Court, on the petition of Joginder Kaur, blamed PGI Chandigarh for ignoring disability-related Acts, said- ‘ Service benefits cannot be denied to an employee on the ground of disability while in service. In such circumstances, he can be placed in a post of equal benefit.
16. Missile test: – On this day in the year 2010, the Indian Army tested a nuclear-capable ‘Agni-2’ missile from the Integrated Test Range (ITR) located at Wheelers Island, Odisha. This missile can hit up to two thousand kilometers. The development of ‘Agni-2’ has been done with the laboratories of the Defense Development and Research Organization [DRDO] and Bharat Dynamics, Hyderabad.

18. Hotel Leela Group:- On this day in the year 2014, India’s famous hotel industrialist and founder of ‘Hotel Leela Group’ CP Krishnan Nair passed away at the age of 92 in Mumbai (Maharashtra).
