Mother Kalratri is worshipped on the seventh day of Ashwin Navratri. On this day, the mind of the seeker remains situated in “Sahasrar Chakra” or in other words, the doors of all the achievements of the universe open for the seeker. The colour of Maa Kalratri body is black like dense darkness, the hair on her head is scattered, and there is a garland around her neck that shines like electricity. Mother has three eyes which are round like the universe. Mother has four hands and in them a queue holds an iron fork, apart from this both the hands are in Varamudra and Abhayamudra. Fire keeps coming out from mother’s breath and the vehicle is a donkey. The names of Mother Kaal Ratri are Kali, Mahakali, Bhadrakali, Bhairavi, Rudrani, Chamunda, Chandi, Raudri, Dhumorna, Shubhankari and Durga.

According to mythological texts, once upon a time, the demons named Shumbh-Nishumbh and Raktabeej had created terror in all the three worlds, the distressed gods went to Lord Bholenath and informed about the mischief of the demons and the gods said, O Lord, protect the devotees by killing the demons. Then Mother Parvati took the form of Durga and killed Shumbh-Nishumbh. After that, when Mother Durga killed Raktabeej, lakhs of Raktabeej were born from her body, then Mother manifested Kaalratri with her glory. Again when Mother Bhavani killed Raktabeej, the blood coming out of her body was filled by Mother Kali in her mouth and she was killed.

By worshipping Maa Kalratri, the devotees attain all the attainments. The form of Maa Kalratri is extremely terrifying, yet the seekers always get auspicious results. Maa Kalratri is popular among the practitioners of Para shakti (black magic), and devotion to Maa leads to the destruction of evil forces and the removal of planetary obstacles.

Rules of worship: –

While worshipping Maa Kalratri, wear yellow or red coloured clothes and offer sandalwood, Akshat, milk, curd, sugar, fruits, Panchameva and Panchamrit to Maa along with red, yellow and blue flowers. Light a lamp of pure ghee in front of Mother Goddess, burn incense sticks and offer perfume, and chant her mantras while placing the idol of Mother Kalratri in your heart.

माँ कालरात्रि…

एकवेणी जपाकर्णपूरा नग्ना खरास्थिता, लम्बोष्टी कर्णिकाकर्णी तैलाभ्यक्तशरीरिणी।

वामपादोल्लसल्लोहलताकण्टकभूषणा, वर्धनमूर्धध्वजा कृष्णा कालरात्रिर्भयङ्करी॥

आश्विन नवरात्री के सातवें दिन माँ कालरात्रि की आराधना की जाती है. इस दिन साधक का मन “सहस्रार चक्र” में स्थित रहता है या यूँ कहें कि, साधक के लिए ब्रह्मांड की समस्त सिद्धियों के दरवाजे खुल जाते हैं. माँ कालरात्रि के शरीर का रंग घने अन्धकार की तरह काला है, सर के बाल बिखरा हुआ हैं, गले में विद्युत की तरह चमकने वाली माला है. माँ की तीन आँखें हैं जो ब्रह्मांड के समान गोल है. माँ के चार हाथ हैं और उनमें कतार, लोहे का कांटा धारण करती है, इसके अलावा दोनों हाथ वर मुद्रा और अभय मुद्रा में है. माँ की श्वास से अग्नि निकलती रहती है और वाहन गधा है. माँ काल रात्री के की नाम है काली, महाकाली, भद्रकाली, भैरवी, रुद्राणी, चामुंडा, चंडी, रौद्री, धुमोरना, शुभंकरी और दुर्गा .

पौराणिक ग्रन्थों के अनुसार, एक समय की बात है कि, शुंभ-निशुंभ और रक्तबीज नाम के राक्षसों ने तीनों लोकों में आतंक मचा रखा था, इससे व्यथित देवता गण भगवान भोलेनाथ के पास गये और राक्षसों के उत्पात की जानकारी दी और देवताओं ने कहा, हे प्रभु राक्षसों का वध कर भक्तों की रक्षा कीजिए. तब माता पार्वती ने दुर्गा दुर्गा का रूप धारण कर शुंभ-निशुम्भ का वध कर दिया. उसके बाद माँ दुर्गा ने रक्तबीज को मारा तो उसके शरीर से लाखों रक्तबीज और पैदा हो गये, तब माता ने अपने तेज से कालरात्रि को प्रकट किया. पुन: माँ भवानी ने रक्तबीज को मारा तो उसके शरीर से निकलने वाले रक्त को माँ काली ने अपने मुख में भर लिया और मारा गया.

माँ कालरात्रि की आराधना करने से साधकों को समस्त सिद्धियां प्राप्त हो जाती है. माँ कालरात्रि का स्वरूप अत्यंत भयानक है, फिर भी साधकों को सदैव शुभ फल ही प्राप्त होता है. माँ कालरात्रि पराशक्तियों (काला जादू) की साधना करने वाले साधकों के बीच लोकप्रिय हैं, और मां की भक्ति से दुष्टों का नाश होता है और ग्रह बाधाएं भी दूर हो जाती हैं.

भोग: –

माँ कालरात्रि या काली को गुड़ अति प्रिय है, इसीलिए नवरात्री के सातवें दिन गुड़ का भोग लगाया जाता है.

माँ कालरात्रि पराशक्तियों (काला जादू) की साधना करने वाले साधकों के बीच लोकप्रिय हैं.

या देवी सर्वभू‍तेषु माँ कालरात्रि रूपेण संस्थिता।

नमस्तस्यै नमस्तस्यै नमस्तस्यै नमो नम:।।

पूजा के नियम: –

माँ कालरात्रि की उपासना करते समय पीले या लाल रंग के वस्त्र पहने और माँ को लाल-पीले व नील फूलों से चंदन, अक्षत, दूध, दही, शक्कर, फल, पंचमेवे और पंचामृत अर्पित करें. माता के समक्ष शुद्ध घी का दीपक जलाएं तथा धूप अगरबत्ती जलाएं और इत्र चढ़ाएं, और माँ कालरात्रि के स्वरूप-विग्रह को अपने हृदय में अवस्थित करते हुए, उनके मन्त्रों का जाप करें.
