विद्वानस्वामी चिन्मयानंद …
भारत के प्रसिद्ध आध्यात्मिक चिंतक तथा वेदान्त दर्शन के विद्वानस्वामी चिन्मयानंद का जन्म वर्ष 1916 में एर्नाकुलम (केरल) के एक संभ्रांत परिवार में हुआ था. उनके बचपन का नाम बालकृष्ण मेनन था.
चिन्मयानंद के बारे में कहा जाता है कि, वे आध्यात्मिक चिंतक तथा वेदान्त दर्शन के विश्व प्रसिद्ध विद्वान थे. भारत भ्रमण के दौरान उन्होंने देखा कि धर्म संबंधी अनेक भ्रांतियां फैली हैं और उनका निवारण कर शुद्ध धर्म की स्थापना करने के लिए स्वामी चिन्मयानंद जी ने ‘गीता ज्ञान-यज्ञ’ प्रारम्भ किया और वर्ष 1953 में ‘चिन्मय मिशन’ की भी स्थापना की.
चिन्मयानंद ने कई ग्रंथों पर जैसे उपनिषद, गीता और आदि शंकराचार्य के के 35 से अधिक ग्रंथों पर इन्होंने व्याख्यायें लिखीं. इन ग्रंथों में गीता पर लिखा गया उनका भाष्य को सर्वोत्तम माना जाता है.
क्रांतिकारी गोपबन्धु चौधरी…
गोपबन्धु चौधरी का जन्म वर्ष 1895 कटक (उड़ीसा) में हुआ था. गोपबन्धु उड़ीसा के प्रसिद्ध क्रांतिकारी तथा गाँधीवादी कार्यकर्ता थे. बताते चलें कि, वर्ष 1919 में उड़ीसा में बाढ़ ने भीषण तबाही मचाई और जिसके बाद वहाँ भीषण अकाल पड़ गया.अकाल के कारण उड़ीसावासियों की कमर टूट गई. अकाल के वक्त अंग्रेजों ने गोपबंधु चौधरी को सहायता अधिकारी के रूप में नियुक्त किया.
वर्ष 1921 में महात्मा गाँधी ने असहयोग आन्दोलन प्रारम्भ किया. गोपबंधु चौधरी ने नौकरी से इस्तीफा देकर सत्याग्रहियों के प्रशिक्षण के लिये कटक के निकट ‘अलाका आश्रम’ की स्थापना की और स्वयं 6 वर्ष आश्रम में रहकर विभिन्न रचनात्मक कार्यों को आगे बढ़ाया. बताते चलें कि, ‘नमक सत्याग्रह’ में बध-चढ़ कर भाग लिया जिसके कारण उन्हें वर्ष 1930 में गिरफ्तार कर लिये गए. वर्ष 1950 में उन्होंने ‘सर्वोदय सम्मेलन’ का आयोजन किया, उन्होंने विनोबा भावे के ‘भूदान आंदोलन’ में भी सक्रिय भूमिका निभाई.
चापेकर बन्धु…
वर्ष 1899 की बात है आजादी की लड़ाई में कई क्रांतिकारियों ने भाग लिया जिनमें पहले भारतीय क्रांतिकारी चापेकर बंधुओं को माना जाता है. चापेकर बन्धुओं में एक भाई थे वासुदेव चापेकर. जिन्हें मुम्बई के यरवदा जेल में आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1899 में फांसी दी गई थी.
इतिहासकार तपन राय चौधरी…
इतिहासकार तपन राय चौधरी का जन्म वर्ष 1926 में दक्षिणी बांग्लादेश में स्थित बंगाल की खाड़ी के उत्तरी किनारे के बरिसाल में हुआ था. तपन राय चौधरी ब्रिटिश भारतीय इतिहास, भारतीय आर्थिक इतिहास और बंगाल के इतिहास के विशेषज्ञ थे.चौधरी को वर्ष 2007 में भारत सरकार द्वारा साहित्य एवं शिक्षा के क्षेत्र में पद्म भूषण से सम्मानित किया गया था.
ठुमरी गायिका गिरिजा देवी…
ठुमरी गायिका गिरिजा देवी का जन्म वर्ष 1929 में वाराणसी के एक भूमिहार जमींदार रामदेव राय के घर हुआ था. उनके पिता हारमोनियम बजाया करते थे और खुद ही गिरिजा देवी को को संगीत सिखाया करते थे. बताते चलें कि, बचपन में गिरिजा देवी को माँ और दादी के विरोध को भी झेलना पड़ा था. तमाम तरह की बंदिशों के बाद भी अपनी पढाई जारी रखी.
गिरिजा देवी ने, गायक और सारंगी वादक सरजू प्रसाद मिश्रा, पांच साल की उम्र से, ख्याल और टप्पा गायन की शिक्षा लेना शुरू की. नौ वर्ष की आयु में, फिल्म याद रहे में अभिनय भी किया और अपने गुरु श्रीचंद मिश्रा के सानिध्य में संगीत के विभिन्न शैलियों की पढ़ाई जारी रखी.
वर्ष 1951 में बिहार में उन्होंने अपना पहला सार्वजनिक संगीत कार्यक्रम दिया. गिरिजा देवी बनारस घराने से गाती है और पूरबी, आंग ठुमरी (जिसका दर्जा बढ़ने व तरक्की में मदद की ) शैली परंपरा का भी प्रदर्शन करती है.

Scholar Swami Chinmayanand …
India’s famous spiritual thinker and scholar of Vedanta philosophy Swami Chinmayananda was born in the year 1916 in an elite family in Ernakulam (Kerala). His childhood name was Balakrishna Menon.
It is said about Chinmayanand that he was a spiritual thinker and a world-famous scholar of Vedanta philosophy. During his visit to India, he saw that many misconceptions related to religion had spread and Swami Chinmayanand ji started ‘Gita Gyan-Yagya’ and established ‘Chinmaya Mission’ in the year 1953 to establish pure religion.
Chinmayanand wrote commentaries on many texts like the Upanishads, Gita, and more than 35 texts of Adi Shankaracharya. Among these texts, his commentary on Gita is considered the best.
Revolutionary Gopabandhu Chowdhary…
Gopabandhu Chowdhary was born in the year 1895 in Cuttack (Orissa). Gopabandhu was a famous revolutionary and Gandhian activist in Odisha. Let us tell that, in the year 1919, the flood caused great devastation in Orissa and after that, there was a severe famine. Due to the famine, the people of Orissa broke their backs. At the time of famine, the British appointed Gopabandhu Chowdhary as a relief officer.
In the year 1921, Mahatma Gandhi started the non-cooperation movement. Gopabandhu Chowdhary resigned from the job and established ‘Alaka Ashram’ near Cuttack for the training of Satyagrahis and by staying in the ashram for 6 years, carried forward various creative works. Let us tell that he participated enthusiastically in the ‘Salt Satyagraha’ due to which he was arrested in the year 1930. In the year 1950, he organized ‘Sarvodaya Sammelan’, and he also played an active role in Vinoba Bhave’s ‘Bhoodan Movement’.

It is about the year 1899 that many revolutionaries participated in the freedom struggle, in which the Chopekar brothers are considered to be the first Indian revolutionaries. Thumri singer Girija Devi was born in the year 1929 in the house of Ramdev Rai, a Bhumihar landlord of Varanasi. His father used to play the harmonium and he used to teach music to Girija Devi. Let us tell that, in childhood, Girija Devi also had to face opposition from her mother and grandmother. Despite all kinds of restrictions, he continued his studies.
Girija Devi, singer and Sarangi player Sarju Prasad Mishra started taking lessons in khayal and tappa singing at the age of five. At the age of nine, he also acted in the film Yaad Rahe and continued to study different styles of music under his guru Srichand Mishra.
In the year 1951, he gave his first public concert in Bihar. Girija Devi sings from the Banaras Gharana and also performs in the Purabi, Ang Thumri (which helped her rise to prominence) style tradition.
