When the country was passing through the problem of starvation in 1965, Shastriji stopped taking a salary. Meanwhile, the maid who used to come to work at his home also refused to come to work and started doing the household work himself. He liked the simplicity, that’s why he used to wear torn kurta under his coat.

Some interesting and inspiring stories related to the life of Lal Bahadur Shastri, “Fans were installed in the third class”. Lal Bahadur Shastri held important positions like Foreign Minister, Home Minister, and Railway Minister before becoming the Prime Minister. Once he was traveling in an AC bogie of the train. During this, he went to the third class (general bogie) to know the problems of the passengers. After this, he saw the problems there and also got angry with his PA. Then, deciding to provide facilities to the passengers traveling in third class, he installed fans for the first time in the general bogies and also started the facility of a pantry.

Shastri used to go to school by swimming in his childhood. He used to be very mischievous in his childhood. People in the house used to call him Nanhe. He loved swimming in the river with the village children. He also used to go swimming in the Ganges with friends. As a child, he had saved a friend who studied with him from drowning. Every day from his ancestral home in Ramnagar, Kashi, he used to go to school by crossing several kilometer long Ganga with a sack and cloth on his forehead.

While studying at Harishchandra Inter College, he often used to reach late and used to stand outside the class and make complete notes. Shastri ji later used to make handkerchiefs from torn clothes and used to wear torn kurtas under his coat. When his wife interrupted him on this, he said that there are many people in the country who live like this. VVIP culture was not a choice Shastri ji preferred to attend any program not like a VVIP but like a common man.

In the program, when the event organizer used to make different dishes for him, he used to explain to them that the poor man must have slept hungry and that I, being a minister, should eat the dish, it is not good. He often used to eat vegetables and roti for the lunch. The mystery of Lal Bahadur Shastri’s death is still not solved. After the ceasefire with Pakistan in 1965, Lal Bahadur Shastri went to Tashkent in Uzbekistan, then a part of the Soviet Union, where he was to sign an agreement with Ayub Khan, the President of Pakistan. On January 10, 1966, Tashkent agreement was signed between India and Pakistan, and just 12 hours after this agreement, he died on January 11 at 1.32 am. Today, hundreds of salutations to Lal Shastri ji of Mother India.
