अंतर्राष्ट्रीय आपदा न्यूनीकरण दिवस हर वर्ष 13 अक्टूबर को मनाया जाता है. यह दिन संयुक्त राष्ट्र द्वारा आपदा जोखिम को कम करने और प्राकृतिक एवं मानवजनित आपदाओं से होने वाले नुकसान को रोकने या कम करने के उद्देश्य से मनाया जाता है.

अतर्राष्ट्रीय आपदा न्यूनीकरण दिवस पहली बार वर्ष 1989 में संयुक्त राष्ट्र महासभा द्वारा घोषित किया गया था. यह दिवस संयुक्त राष्ट्र की “सेन्डाई फ्रेमवर्क फॉर डिजास्टर रिस्क रिडक्शन” (वर्ष 2015- 30) के लक्ष्यों को बढ़ावा देने में मदद करता है, जिसका उद्देश्य आपदाओं के प्रभाव को कम करना है.
हर वर्ष, आज के दिन के लिए एक विशेष थीम चुनी जाती है जो आपदा जोखिम प्रबंधन के किसी खास पहलू पर ध्यान केंद्रित करती है. वर्ष 2026 का थीम है “लचीलापन घर से शुरू होता है!”. जो सुरक्षित और मजबूत घरों के निर्माण पर जोर देता है.
