आमतौर पर लोग दो नवरात्रों की पूजा-आराधना करते है जबकि दो और नवरात्रों के बारे में जानकारी नहीं के बराबर है. हिन्दू पंचांग के अनुसार वर्ष में 12 महीने होते हैं उन्ही 12 महीनों में चार नवरात्र की पूजा आराधना होती है. वर्ष के शुरुआती महीने चैत में नवरात्री की पूजा-आराधना की गई थी. अब चार महीने बाद अषाढ़ में माँ शक्ति की अराधना शुरू हो रही है. पौराणिक ग्रंथों में भी गुप्त नवरात्र की चर्चा की गई है. गुप्त नवरात्र, को “अघोर नवरात्र” भी कहा जाता है.
आमतौर पर गुप्त नवरात्र का आयोजन माघ और आषाढ़ माह में किया जाता है, लेकिन यह कुछ स्थानों पर और महीनों में भी मनाया जाता है. इसे विशेष रूप से साधक अपनी आध्यात्मिक उन्नति और सिद्धि प्राप्ति के लिए करते हैं. श्रृंगी ऋषि ने गुप्त नवरात्रों के महत्त्व को बतलाते हुए कहा है कि- “जिस प्रकार वासंतिक नवरात्र में भगवान विष्णु की पूजा और शारदीय नवरात्र में देवी शक्ति की नौ देवियों की पूजा की प्रधानता रहती है, उसी प्रकार गुप्त नवरात्र दस महाविद्याओं के होते हैं. यदि कोई साधक इन महाविद्याओं के रूप में शक्ति की उपासना करें, तो जीवन धन-धान्य, राज्य सत्ता और ऐश्वर्य से भर जाता है.
तन्त्र साधकों के लिए गुप्त नवरात्रि ही ख़ास होता है. इस दौरान साधक माँ की आराधना रात्रि में ही करते हैं. गुप्त नवरात्रि की पूजा के नौ दिनों में माँ दुर्गा के नौ स्वरूपों की बजाय दस महाविद्याओं (दस महाविद्याएं :- मां काली, तारा देवी, त्रिपुर सुंदरी, भुवनेश्वरी, छिन्नमस्ता, त्रिपुर भैरवी, मां धूमावती, बगलामुखी, मातंगी और कमला देवी) की पूजा की जाती है.
पौराणिक ग्रंथों में गुप्त नवरात्रों का बड़ा ही महत्त्व बताया गया है. मानव के समस्त रोग-दोष व कष्टों के निवारण के लिए गुप्त नवरात्र से बढ़कर कोई साधना काल नहीं होता हैं. गुप्त नवरात्र की पूजा-आराधना करने से श्री, वर्चस्व, आयु, आरोग्य और धन प्राप्ति के साथ ही शत्रुओं पर विजय की प्राप्ति होती है. इस नवरात्र में भी अनेक प्रकार के अनुष्ठान व व्रत-उपवास के विधान शास्त्रों में मिलते हैं.
“दुर्गावरिवस्या” नामक ग्रंथ के अनुसार साल में दो बार आने वाले गुप्त नवरात्रों में भी माघ में पड़ने वाले गुप्त नवरात्र मानव को न केवल आध्यात्मिक बल ही प्रदान करते हैं, बल्कि इन दिनों में संयम-नियम व श्रद्धा के साथ माता दुर्गा की उपासना करने वाले व्यक्ति को अनेक सुख व साम्राज्य भी प्राप्त होते हैं. जबकि, “शिवसंहिता” के अनुसार ये नवरात्र भगवान शंकर और आदिशक्ति माँ पार्वती की उपासना के लिए भी श्रेष्ठ माना गया है.
गुप्त नवरात्र की पूजा विधि:-
गुप्त नवरात्र के दौरान भी पूजा अन्य नवरात्र की तरह ही करनी चाहिये. नौ दिनों तक व्रत का संकल्प लेते हुए प्रतिपदा को घटस्थापना कर प्रतिदिन सुबह शाम मां दुर्गा की पूजा की जाती है. अष्टमी या नवमी के दिन कन्याओं के पूजन के साथ व्रत का उद्यापन किया जाता है.
तंत्र साधना वाले साधक इन दिनों में माता के नवरूपों की बजाय दस महाविद्याओं की साधना करते हैं. तन्त्र साधक अपने गुरु के निर्देशन में ही तंत्र साधना की पूजा करते हैं. अगर मन के अनुसार तन्त्र पूजा करते है तो साधक को कई प्रकार के प्रतिकूल प्रभाव साधक पर पड़ते हैं. अत: तांत्रिक साधना करनी हो तो अपने गुरु के दिशानिर्देश के अनुसार ही करना चाहिए.
पौराणिक कथा:-
ऋषि श्रंगी एक बार अपने भक्तों को प्रवचन दे रहे थे कि भीड़ में से एक स्त्री हाथ जोड़कर ऋषि से बोली कि गुरुवर मेरे पति दुर्व्यसनों से घिरे हैं जिसके कारण मैं किसी भी प्रकार के धार्मिक कार्य व्रत उपवास अनुष्ठान आदि नहीं कर पाती हूँ. मैं मां दुर्गा की शरण लेना चाहती हैं लेकिन मेरे पति के पापाचारों से मां की कृपा नहीं हो पा रही है कृपया मेरा भी मार्गदर्शन करें.
तब, ऋषि बोले वासंतिक और शारदीय नवरात्र में तो हर कोई पूजा करता है और सभी इससे परिचित हैं. लेकिन इनके अलावा वर्ष में दो बार गुप्त नवरात्र भी आते हैं इनमें नौ देवियों की बजाय दस महाविद्याओं की उपासना की जाती है. यदि तुम विधिवत ऐसा कर सको तो मां दुर्गा की कृपा से तुम्हारा जीवन खुशियों से परिपूर्ण होगा.
ऋषि के प्रवचनों को सुनकर उस स्त्री ने गुप्त नवरात्र में ऋषि के बताये अनुसार मां दुर्गा की कठोर साधना की. उस स्त्री की श्रद्धा व भक्ति से मां प्रसन्न हुई, जिसके फलस्वरूप कुमार्ग पर चलने वाला उसका पति सुमार्ग की ओर अग्रसर हुआ जिससे उसका घर खुशियों से भर गया.

Usually, people worship during two Navratris while there is little information about the other two Navratris. According to the Hindu calendar, there are 12 months in a year and four Navratris are worshipped in those 12 months. Navratri worship was done in the first month of the year, Chait. Now after four months, the worship of Maa Shakti is starting in Ashadh. Gupta Navratri has also been discussed in mythological texts. Gupta Navratri, which is also called “Aghor Navratri”.
Usually, Gupta Navratri is organized in the months of Magh and Ashadh, but it is also celebrated in other months in some places. Sadhaks especially perform it for their spiritual advancement and attainment of siddhi. Shringi Rishi has said while explaining the importance of Gupt Navratri that- “Just as worship of Lord Vishnu is predominant in Vasantik Navratri and worship of nine goddesses of Goddess Shakti is predominant in Sharadiya Navratri, similarly Gupt Navratri is of ten Mahavidyas. If a Sadhak worships Shakti in the form of these Mahavidyas, then life is filled with wealth, state power and prosperity.
Gupta Navratri is special for Tantra Sadhaks. During this time Sadhak worships the mother only at night. In the nine days of worship of Gupt Navratri, instead of nine forms of Maa Durga, ten Mahavidyas (ten Mahavidyas: – Maa Kali, Tara Devi, Tripura Sundari, Bhuvaneshwari, Chhinnamasta, Tripur Bhairavi, Maa Dhumavati, Baglamukhi, Matangi and Kamala Devi) are worshipped.
The great importance of Gupt Navratri has been told in mythological texts. All the diseases, defects and ailments of human beings are cured by this ritual. There is no better period of worship than Gupt Navratri for the removal of troubles. By worshipping during Gupt Navratri, one gets wealth, dominance, age, health and money, along with victory over enemies. In this Navratri also, many types of rituals and rules of fasting are found in the scriptures.
According to the book named “Durgavarivasya”, among the Gupt Navratris that come twice a year, the Gupt Navratri falling in Magh not only provides spiritual strength to humans but also the person who worships Maa Durga with restraint, discipline and devotion during these days also gets many pleasures and empire. Whereas, according to “Shiv Samhita”, this Navratri is also considered best for the worship of Lord Shankar and Adishakti Maa Parvati.
Vidhi of worship of Gupt Navratri: –
During Gupt Navratri also, worship should be done like other Navratris. Taking a pledge to fast for nine days, Ghatasthapana is done on Pratipada and Maa Durga is worshipped every morning and evening. On the day of Ashtami or Navami, the fast is concluded with the worship of girls.
Sadhaks who practice tantra practice these days worship the ten Mahavidyas instead of the nine forms of the mother. Tantra practitioners worship tantra sadhana only under the guidance of their Guru. If tantra worship is done according to the mind, then many types of adverse effects fall on the practitioner. Therefore, if you want to do tantric sadhana, then you should do it only as per the guidelines of your Guru.
Mythological story:-
Once Rishi Shringi was preaching to his devotees, when a woman from the crowd folded her hands and told the sage that Guruvar, my husband is surrounded by vices, due to which I am not able to do any kind of religious work, fasting, rituals etc. I want to take refuge in Maa Durga, but due to my husband’s sins, I am not able to get the blessings of the Mother, please guide me too.
Then, the sage said that everyone worships in Vasantik and Sharadiya Navratri and everyone is familiar with it. But apart from these, Gupt Navratri also comes twice a year, in which instead of nine goddesses, ten Mahavidyas are worshipped. If you can do this properly, then by the grace of Maa Durga, your life will be full of happiness.
After listening to the discourses of the sage, that woman did rigorous sadhana of Maa Durga as told by the sage in Gupt Navratri. Maa was pleased with the faith and devotion of that woman, as a result of which her husband, who was on the wrong path, started moving towards the right path, due to which her house was filled with happiness.
