Father’s Day is celebrated every year on the third Sunday of June. This day provides an opportunity to express gratitude towards the love, sacrifice and unwavering support of fathers, which they give to their children and family.
Father’s Day started in the year 1910 in Washington, America, with the efforts of Sonora Smart Dodd. Sonara was very impressed by her father, William Jackson Smart, who raised his six children alone after the death of his wife. She thought that, like Mother’s Day in honour of mothers, there should be a day in honour of fathers as well. This idea gradually gained popularity, and in the year 1972, US President Richard Nixon recognized it as a national day.
Fathers are the foundation of the family. They not only give education and discipline to their children, but also give them the strength to face the struggles of life. A father’s love is often silent, but his sacrifice and dedication are greater than any expression. In Indian culture, the father is seen as an ideal and guide who plays an important role in the personality development of children.
