देश में इस समय इतिहास को बदलने, इतिहास का पुनर्लेखन करने और खासकर मुगल सल्तनत के दौर को टारगेट करने की धूम मची हुई है. आरएसएस और भाजपा के पास सत्ता है और उन्होंने अपने मकसद को पूरा कर दिखाया है. लेकिन, पत्रकार पंकज श्रीवास्तव ने सत्य हिन्दी पर लिखा है कि नेताजी सुभाष चंद्र बोस और छत्रपति शिवाजी की जो राय मुगल शासनकाल के बारे में रही है संघी और भाजपाई उसे कैसे झुठला सकते हैं. आज़ाद हिंद फ़ौज के शीर्ष कमांडर बतौर नेताजी सुभाषचंद्र बोस 26 सितंबर 1943 को रंगून पहुँचे और वहाँ उन्होंने अंतिम मुग़ल सम्राट बहादुरशाह ज़फ़र के मज़ार पर सजदा किया. यही नहीं, मज़ार पर 50 हज़ार रुपये बतौर नज़राना भी चढ़ाया. नेताजी की नज़र में बहादुर शाह ज़फ़र आज़ादी की पहली लड़ाई की नायक ही नहीं उस महान मुग़ल वंश के अंतिम शासक थे जिसने भारतीय इतिहास में एक ‘गौरवशाली अध्याय’ जोड़ा था.
नेताजी ने अंग्रज़ों को जवाब देते हुए कहा था-“अशोक के क़रीब एक हज़ार साल बाद भारत एक बार फिर गुप्त सम्राटों के राज्य में उत्कर्ष के चरम पर पहुँच गया. उसके नौ सौ साल बाद एक बार फिर भारतीय इतिहास का का गौरवशाली अध्याय मुग़ल काल में आरंभ हुआ. इसलिए यह याद रखना चाहिए कि अंग्रेज़ों की यह अवधारणा कि हम राजनीतिक रूप में एक केवल उनके शासनकाल में ही हुए, पूरी तरह ग़लत है. (पेज 274, खंड-12, नेताजी संपूर्ण वाङ्मय, प्रकाशन विभाग, भारत सरकार). नेताजी के ऐसा कहने के पीछे मुग़लकालीन भारत में आर्थिक, राजनैतिक, सामरिक और कलात्मक क्षेत्र में उन्नति के अलावा मेल-मिलाप की संस्कृति में हुए विकास की ओर ध्यान दिलाना था.
कौन कहेगा कि नेताजी की इतिहास को लेकर समझ आरएसएस से कमज़ोर थी या फिर वे इस स्वंयभू राष्ट्रवादी संगठन से कम राष्ट्रवादी थे जो बात-बात में मुग़लों के ख़िलाफ़ ज़हर उगलता रहता है. लेकिन, जिस तरह से एनसीईआरटी की किताबों से मुग़लों से जुड़े पाठ हटाये जा रहे हैं उसके पीछे आरएसएस की वही दृष्टि काम कर रही है जो नेताजी से उलट है. इतिहास को अपने रंग में रँगना आरएसएस का पुराना एजेंडा है और केंद्र में बीजेपी की सरकार होने पर वह इस दिशा में तेज़ी से बढ़ती है. इस समय मीडिया पूरी तरह मुग़लों से जुड़े पाठ को हटाने पर सुर्खी बनाने में जुटा है, वह भी आरएसएस की ही रणनीति है. उसे पता है कि इसकी आड़ में ‘अपने इतिहास’ से पीछा छुड़ाने का उसका षड़यंत्र पर्दे के पीछे छिप जाएगा. हक़ीक़त ये है कि न सिर्फ़ मुग़लों से जुड़ा पाठ हटाया जा रहा है, बल्कि महात्मा गाँधी के हत्यारे नाथूराम गोडसे से संघ के जुड़ाव और उस पर लगे प्रतिबंध से जुड़े तथ्य भी हटाये जा रहे हैं. साथ ही लोकतंत्र और जनांदोलनों से जुड़े पाठ भी हटाये जा रहे हैं जिनके ज़रिए मौजूदा बीजेपी सरकारों के कार्यकलाप को कसने की लोकतांत्रिक कसौटी छात्रों को मिलती है.
“इतिहास कोई इमारत नहीं है जिसमें कोई मनचाही तोड़फोड़ करके नये नक्शे में ढाल दे. इतिहास लेखन एक पेशेवर काम है जो नये तथ्यों की रोशनी में ही बदला जा सकता है. पुरातात्विक या दस्तावेज़ी प्रमाण इसके लिए ज़रूरी हैं न कि किसी की इच्छा. जो तथ्यों से प्रमाणित नहीं होता वह किस्सा तो हो सकता है, इतिहास नहीं।दिक्कत ये है कि आरएसएस उन गप्पों को इतिहास में जगह दिलाना चाहता है जो उसकी शाखाओं में दशकों से हाँकी जाती हैं लेकिन पेशेवर इतिहास लेखन के परिसर के गेट पर ही दम तोड़ देती हैं. उसे लगता है कि जब हर तरफ़ लोकतांत्रिक संस्थाओं पर क़ब्ज़े का एक दौर पूरा हो गया है तो इतिहास के परिसर पर भी क़ब्ज़ा किया जा सकता है. इस तरह वह उसी कहावत को चरितार्थ कर रहा है कि इतिहास का सबसे बड़ा सबक़ यही है कि इससे कोई सबक़ नहीं लेता.
सरकारों की उम्र इतिहास की उम्र के सामने पानी का बुलबुला भर होती है. “मुग़लों का इतिहास न पढ़ाने के पीछे एक और वजह है. दरअसल, मुग़ल साम्राज्य का अध्ययन आरएसएस की इस मेहनत पर पानी फेर देता है कि मुग़ल काल सिर्फ़ ‘हिंदू-मुस्लिम संघर्ष’ का दौर था. ‘मुग़ल दरबार’ से जुड़ा पाठ इसीलिए हटाया गया है क्योंकि इसके बारे में अध्ययन होगा तो राजा मान सिंह, टोडरमल और बीरबल जैसे नवरत्न अकबर के साथ खड़े नज़र आयेंगे और उससे, लोहा लेने वाले महाराणा प्रताप का साथ देते हुए हकीम ख़ाँ सूर दिखेगा. औरंगज़ेब के दरबार में मिर्जा राजा जय सिंह और जसवंत सिंह मिलेंगे और उसको कड़ी चुनौती देने वाले शिवाजी की सेना में तोपख़ान प्रमुख का नाम इब्राहिम ख़ान, नौसेना प्रमुख का नाम दौलत ख़ान और राजदूत बतौर क़ाज़ी हैदर का नाम दर्ज मिलेगा. हद तो तब होगी जब औरंगज़ेब को लिखा शिवाजी का पत्र सामने आयेगा जिसमें अकबर को ‘जगतगुरु’ कहते हुए हिंदुओं और मुसलमानों को एक बताया गया है.
शिवाजी ने लिखा था अकबर ने इस बड़े राज्य को बावन बरस तक ऐसी सावधानी और उत्तमता से चलाया कि सब फिरकों के लोगों ने सुख और आनन्द पाया. क्या ईसाई, क्या भुसाई, क्या दाऊदी, क्या फलकिये, क्या नसीरिए, क्या दहरिये, क्या ब्राह्मण और क्या सेवड़े, सब पर उनकी समान कृपा दृष्टि रहती थी. इसी सुलह कुल के बर्ताव के कारण सब लोगों ने उन्हें जगत गुरु की पदवी दी थी. इसी प्रभाव के कारण वे (अकबर) जिधर देखते थे, फतह उनके सामने आकर खड़ी हो जाती थी….क़ुरआन ईश्वर वाणी है. उसमें अल्लाह को मुस्लिमों का नहीं, विश्व का ईश्वर कहा गया है. हिंदू-मुस्लिम एक हैं. ज़ाहिर है कि इतिहास का यह पाठ अगर छात्र पढ़ेंगे तो उन क़िस्सों पर सवाल खड़ा करेंगे जो इतिहास के नाम पर उन्हें बताने की कोशिश की जा रही है. आरएसएस अगर किसी चीज़ से सबसे ज़्यादा परेशान होता है तो सवाल खड़े करने की प्रवृत्ति से. उसे विचारक नहीं सिर्फ़ प्रचारक चाहिए या कहें कि एक ‘आदेशपालक समाज’ बनाना ही उसका लक्ष्य है. इसीलिए वह न सिर्फ़ मुग़ल दौर के इतिहास से लोगों को दूर करना चाहता है, बल्कि स्वतंत्रता आंदोलन के पाठ में भी घालमेल करना चाहता है.
ख़ैरियत है कि अभी महात्मा गाँधी के ख़िलाफ़ बीजेपी खुलकर बोल नहीं रही है, लेकिन नाथूराम गोडसे को प्रतिष्ठित करने की कोशिश तो स्पष्ट है. वरना क्या वजह है कि महात्मा गाँधी के हत्यारे गोडसे से जुड़ी जानकारियाँ भी हटायी जा रही हैं. इसी के साथ महात्मा गाँधी की हत्या के बाद आरएसएस पर लगे प्रतिबंध की बात को भी हटा दिया गया है. इससे छात्रों को यह भी पता चल सकता है कि यह प्रतिबंध किसी और ने नहीं, सरदार पटेल ने लगाया था.
इतिहास में ज़्यादा रुचि किसी के सामने यह स्पष्ट कर सकती है कि आरएसएस की आज़ादी की लड़ाई में कोई भूमिका नहीं थी. यही नहीं, वह अंग्रेज़ों का साथ भी दे रहा था. यह संयोग नहीं कि हाल ही में गोरखपुर विश्वविद्यालय में उन लेखकों को पाठ्यक्रम में शामिल किया जा रहा है जिनका शुमार लुगदी साहित्य के निर्माताओं में किया जाता है. प्रेमचंद, निराला, फ़िराक़ आदि को पढ़ाने का मतलब स्वतंत्रता आंदोलन की पृष्ठभूमि से बार-बार रूबरू होना है जो आरएसएस को असहज करते हैं. अगला चरण विज्ञान के उन सिद्धांतों को कोर्स से बाहर करना हो सकता है जो धार्मिक सिद्धांतों को चुनौती देते हैं. जिस समय दुनिया भर में ‘आर्टीफ़ीशियल इंटेलीजेंस’ पर काम हो रहा है, भारत की युवा पीढ़ी के ‘इंटेलीजेंस’ को कमज़ोर करने की यह कोशिश होते देखना वाक़ी दुखद है.
कुल मिलाकर पाठ्यक्रम में बदलाव का मक़सद तथ्यों और तर्कों से छात्रों को दूर रखना और ‘क्रिटिकल थिंकिंग’ की संभावनाओं को सीमित करना है. लेकिन अगर किसी समाज का आलोचनात्मक विवेक कमज़ोर पड़ता है तो उसका ज्ञान-विज्ञान के क्षेत्र लगातार पिछड़ना तय है. विश्वगुरु बनने की चाहत रखने वालों को यह बात जितनी जल्दी समझ आ जाये, उतना अच्छा.

Eyes Open…
At present, there is a lot of fanfare in the country to change history, rewrite history, and especially target the period of the Mughal Sultanate. The RSS and the BJP are in power and have served their purpose. But, journalist Pankaj Srivastava has written on Satya Hindi that how can Sanghis and BJP people deny the opinion of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose and Chhatrapati Shivaji about the Mughal rule. As the top commander of the Azad Hind Army, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose reached Rangoon on 26 September 1943 and there he prostrated at the tomb of the last Mughal Emperor Bahadur Shah Zafar. Not only this, he also offered Rs 50,000 as a tribute at the tomb. In the eyes of Netaji, Bahadur Shah Zafar was not only the hero of the first war of Independence but also the last ruler of the great Mughal dynasty which had added a ‘glorious chapter’ in Indian history.
Answering the British, Netaji had said- “About a thousand years after Ashoka, India once again reached the peak of prosperity in the kingdom of the Gupta emperors. Nine hundred years after that, once again the glorious chapter of Indian history started in the Mughal period. Therefore it should be remembered that the concept of the British that we became politically united only during their reign is completely wrong. (Page 274, Volume-12, Netaji Sampoorna Vangmaya, Publications Division, Government of India). Netaji’s saying this was to draw attention to the progress in the economic, political, strategic, and artistic fields in Mughal India and the development of the culture of reconciliation.
Who would say that Netaji’s understanding of history was weaker than RSS or that he was less nationalist than this self-proclaimed nationalist organization which spews venom against the Mughals in every conversation? But, the way the lessons related to Mughals are being removed from NCERT books, the same vision of RSS is working behind it which is opposite to Netaji. Coloring history in its own color is the old agenda of RSS and when there is a BJP government at the center, it moves fast in this direction. At present, the media is completely busy making headlines on the removal of text related to the Mughals, that too is the strategy of the RSS. He knows that under the guise of this, his conspiracy to get rid of ‘whitish’ will be hidden behind the curtain. The fact is that not only the text related to the Mughals being removed but Sangh’s association with Mahatma Gandhi’s killer Nathuram Godse and The facts related to the ban imposed on him are also being removed. Along with this, the lessons related to democracy and people’s movements are also being removed, through which the students get the democratic test to tighten the activities of the present BJP governments.
“History is not a building in which one can vandalize and mold it on a new map. Historiography is a professional work that can be changed only in the light of new facts. Archaeological or documentary evidence is necessary for this and not someone’s wish. What is not proved by facts can be anecdotes, not history. The problem is that RSS wants to give a place in history to the gossip which has been spread in its shakhas for decades but at the gate of the premises of professional historiography. breaks it. He feels that when one round of occupation of democratic institutions has been completed on all sides, then the premises of history can also be occupied. In this way, he is giving meaning to the same saying that the biggest lesson of history is that no one learns from it.
The age of governments is just a bubble of water in front of the age of history. “There is another reason behind not teaching the history of the Mughals. In fact, the study of the Mughal Empire nullifies the hard work of the RSS that the Mughal period was only a period of ‘Hindu-Muslim conflict’. The text related to ‘Mughal Darbar’ has been removed because if it is studied then Navratnas like Raja Man Singh, Todermal, and Birbal will be seen standing with Akbar and Hakim Khan Sur will be seen supporting Maharana Pratap who took iron from him. Mirza Raja Jai Singh and Jaswant Singh will meet in Aurangzeb’s court and in the army of Shivaji who gave him a tough challenge, the name of artillery chief Ibrahim Khan, the name of naval chief Daulat Khan and the name of Qazi Haider as ambassador will be recorded. The limit will be reached when Shivaji’s letter written to Aurangzeb will come to the fore, in which Hindus and Muslims have been told to be one while calling Akbar ‘Jagatguru’.
Shivaji wrote that Akbar ran this big state for fifty-two years with such care and excellence that people of all sects found happiness and joy. Whether Christians, Bhusai, Dawoodi, Falakie, Nasiri, or Dahariye, whether Brahmin and what servants, they had the same kind eyes on everyone. Due to this behavior of Sulah Kul, everyone had given him the title of Jagat Guru. Because of this effect wherever he (Akbar) used to look, victory used to stand in front of him…. Quran is the word of God. In it, Allah has been called the God of the world, not of the Muslims. Hindu-Muslim is one. It is obvious that if the students read this lesson on history, then they will raise questions about those stories which are being tried to tell them in the name of history. If anything bothers the RSS the most, it is the tendency to raise questions. It doesn’t need thinkers but only propagandists or say that its aim is to create an ‘order-oriented society’. That is why he not only wants to distance people from the history of the Mughal era but also wants to mix it into the text of the freedom movement.
It is a good thing that now BJP is not speaking openly against Mahatma Gandhi, but the attempt to make Nathuram Godse prestigious is clear. Otherwise, what is the reason that the information related to Godse, the killer of Mahatma Gandhi, is also being removed? Along with this, the matter of the ban on RSS after the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi has also been dropped. From this students can also know that this ban was not imposed by anyone but Sardar Patel.
More interest in history can make it clear to anyone that RSS had no role in the freedom struggle. Not only this, he was also supporting the British. It is not a coincidence that recently in Gorakhpur University, those writers who are counted among the makers of pulp literature are being included in the curriculum. Teaching Premchand, Nirala, Firaq, etc. means being repeatedly exposed to the background of the freedom movement which makes the RSS uncomfortable. The next step could be to exclude from the curriculum those principles of science that challenge religious principles. At a time when work is being done on ‘Artificial Intelligence’ all over the world, it is really sad to see this attempt to weaken the ‘intelligence’ of the young generation of India.
Overall, the aim of the curriculum changes is to keep students away from facts and logic and limit the possibilities of ‘critical thinking’. But if the critical conscience of a society becomes weak, then it is bound to continue to lag behind in the field of knowledge and science. The sooner those who want to become Vishwaguru understand this, the better.
